Bill & Shelle Paulbitski ~ January 16

We had a wonderful time of prayer on the first Wednesday of this

month. Two new attendees were a couple who are going to be in charge

of the CEF program at Helen Haller Elementary School and another site in

Sequim starting this month. CEF is a wonderful after-school program where the

children get the opportunity to ask Jesus to come into their hearts and lives. They,

then, can influence their families. Let's all pray for good success for all the work being

carried out for students and young people in our community!

I would also like to alert you to a website called Clallam Christian E-Bulletin. This site

alerts you to community prayer/teaching/speaking events. One such event coming up

this month is called Perspectives. There is also going to be a Women's Conference in

February. . . Carolyn Tormala

Volunteer Ministry Need Karen Sherstad has been keeping our church kitchen tidy and clean. She needs to step away

from this ministry at this time. If you are interested in this ministry, please let Sandy in the Church Office know. Karen will continue

until the last of January and will teach you what needs to be done. Karen has provided a detailed list of things that need to be done

each month.

MISSIONS ~ Larry & Susan Weil, Mozambique

Blessing for 2019

January - February

Dear Brethren,

Praying this newsletter finds you and yours well. We finished 2018 with

a grateful heart, for all His blessings and grace received. We pray that

this year will also be one of blessings; because His blessings are new

every day.

We are still waiting on the City of Salem to finish giving us the permits we need to move into

the modular. Lord willing it will be soon and we can start meeting there as a congregation.

Even then we will still be looking for a permanent building.

For now we will no longer go on mission trips to the Dominican Republic. The years we went

were a great blessing and all for His glory. We are thankful that He gave us the opportunity to

serve Him in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the people there. We will always have

fond memories of the time we spent with these wonderful persons. Maybe we will see them

again in Heaven!

Please pray for: Our health and that Maria will still be in remission. Our children and their families. Wisdom for this coming year as we continue to serve our God here in Salem. Open doors and hearts as we share the Gospel. "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12

All God's Creatures

DEVOTIONAL

“The Lord God formed out of the ground every living animal of the field and every bird of the air. He

brought them to the man to see what he would name them, and whatever the man called each living

creature, that was its name.” Genesis 2:19

An African farmer introduced me to his three elephants—Mary, Boxy and Shorty. They were

characters who snatched the man’s hat away in a game of keep-away.

You can tell an elephant’s personality by how it uses its trunk. They greet each other by intertwining

trunks and even have special trunk displays for courtship and mother-child interactions. Some twist

around objects to the left, others to the right.

As I reached into Mary’s mouth to lay oranges on her tongue, Boxy and Shorty groped inside my

shirt with their trunks for more fruit. These were outgoing, curious friends and it was a pleasure to

make their acquaintance.

In the Garden of Eden an anointed relationship was inaugurated between animals and humans. We

were to co-govern God’s wooly, scaly and feathered creatures. Instead, we brought curses into the

world and our relationship with animals went topsy-turvy. They no longer enjoyed our protection

but became our sacrificial offerings, or the exact opposite, our gods.

Even today we seem to use animals for sport hunting or worship them under the guise of

domesticated pets. The balance conferred on us in Eden disappeared into a gray fog. In my

lifetime, one half of the world’s wild animals have died due to human destruction of habitat. I don’t

want the blood of that crime on my hands. I must rediscover my calling to godly husbandry.

Living in the post crucifixion of Jesus era, I have a chance to right a few wrongs. I can boycott

unsustainable harvests, speak against animal cruelty, and use care that I don’t spend more on my

pets than I do on God’s kingdom. If I’m truly filled with the Spirit of Christ, He’ll show me a great

many ways to reverse this double-edged war against creation.

To Mary, Boxy and Shorty, I want to say, “I’ve been on the wrong side of your suffering. Now let me

love and protect you.”

Prayer: “Father, help me care for Your creation.”

. . . Don Goulding
