FUTURE UNKNOWN Global Education Plan is an experimental exploration for future education by a joint force of global institutions. Starting with a discussion of some of the age-leading events, it aims at expanding the boundary of traditional education, extending the topics of future education and redesigning the scenes of future education.

An explorer in art and design education, the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) initiates FU-TURE UNKNOWN for the future-cross-disciplinary, cross-time-space and cross-cultural, it will integrate global academic intelligence, re-examine art and design in the contemporary context, gather global institutions to articulate together, aggregate a new platform for future education development and collaboration, in an effort to jointly explore innovative solutions.

Project Description

Compulsive Innovation–Thought Leader Round TableDecember 2017

100 hot spots impacting education today will be collected and filtered through an open call for topics to international institutions on the internet, from which relevant questions will be selected and presented to Round Table guests as topics for their on the spot discussion. These guests include technical experimenter, future predictor, design researcher and social entrepreneur. The discussion will interact with international art and design institutions and to people concerned, and is expected to provide insights, prediction and judgment, actively propose ideas and views responsive to world structural transformation, and to generate new momentum.

Youth Expressed–Education Exhibition & ForumDecember 2017–May 2018

CAFA will invite institutions that have raised relevant questions in Compulsive Innovation to carry out in-depth research collaboration specific to their local context. Through a six-month education programme of local research workshops of educators and the educated, a voice platform for di-alogue and discussion of global youth backed by CAFA will be come into shape in the form of an exhibition of the processes and achievements of all the research workshops from collaborative institutions around the globe. The exhibition is scheduled during the Exhibition Season of CAFA, which will provide continued references for discussions for future education development..

Education Absence–Chancellor SummitSeptember 2018

Coinciding with the Centennial Celebration of CAFA and centered on education leaders and strat-egy makers, a hundred chancellors/directors/presidents from around the world will be invited to CAFA for an examination of the Youth Expressed teaching practice and a discussion on the design of future education restructuring and strategy, thus leading to a strategic Global Art and Design Education League that will push forward the sustainable development of global art and design education.

A. Compulsive Innovation Summit

The Compulsive Innovation Summit will be a joint exploration of the challenges facing future so-ciety and the possibilities of education innovation by speakers from different countries including cross-disciplinary scholar, industry leader, institution educator and city manager. The forum and seminar, taking place in an art museum, is a breakthrough of traditional forum in form, making a unique voice and interactive platform for the speakers, who will be interacting with teachers and students from international institutions to discuss issues relevant to future education.

B. Internet Platform

The Future Unknown internet platform, going online in November, will collect questions con-cerning the future from all over the world. Through online interaction, people can discuss and comment on these questions. During the process of the continuing modification of the online interactive platform, quite a number of mini-forums focusing on discussions of events and issues will emerge, the most conflicting and extensive ones of which will be chosen and landed on the forum by way of projection, to correspond to the scene of the seminar.

Professor Ashley Hall is director of research department of Royal College of Art, director of Mres Healthcare Design, deputy director of innovative design engineering. He has lectured in dozens of countries in the world to set up seminars on design thinking, innovative thinking and experimental innovation, Progressive and subversive innovation courses, and published more than 30 papers on innovation education, delivered keynote speeches at many international academic conferences.

Ashley Hall

Aiyemobisi William

Aiyemobisi “Bisi” Williams has worn many hats in pursuit of making the world a better place for all its inhabitants. A journalist, designer, wife and mother, she currently serves as Chief Inspiration Officer for Massive Change Network, the design consultancy she co-founded with Bruce Mau. Williams taps into visionary thinking and emerging trends across disciplines to inform and evolve holistic strategies and tools to create value and drive sustainable growth for clients. Under her leadership, Massive Change Network has become a global firm committed to shaping and defining the emerging practice of enterprise design.

Allen Sayegh

Associate Professor at Harvard School of Design, REAL Director, Responsive Environment and Artificial Products Laboratory, Harvard University, President of INVIVIA. At the same time is also an architect, designer, educator. His curriculum and practice focus on technology-driven architectural design, exploring the potential of the media and technology to integrate the built environment, interactive design and the study of architectural and urban spatial thinking through the impact of changing technology.

Anthony Dunne

Anthony is a university professor of design and social inquiry and fellow at the Institute for Design, Ethnography and Social Thought (GIDEST) at The New School, in New York. He is also a partner at the design studio Dunne & Raby. From 2005 to 2015, he was a professor and director of the design interactions programme at the Royal College of Art in London.

Future UnknownGlobal Education Plan2017–2018 David Gersten is an internationally recognized artist, architect, writer and educator based in New

York City. He has been a Professor in The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture of The Cooper Union, since 1991, where he has served as the Associate Dean and the Acting Dean of the School of Architecture. Gersten is the founding Director and President of: Arts Letters & Numbers, a non-profit arts and education organization dedicated to creating new structures and spaces for creative exchange across a wide range of disciplines.

David Gersten

Clive has led Philips' innovation team to explore technological innovations, future of brands and design innovations through cross-cutting research projects and to explore ways to improve our future lives in combination with these three, explore potential long-term systemic shifts and apply state-of-the-art technologies. From the time he first created the wearable product in 1996, he predicted the popularity of wearable devices twenty years later.

Clive van Heerden

Bruce Mau

Bruce Mau is a brilliantly creative optimist whose love of thorny problems led him to create a methodology for whole system transformation. He has been a serial entrepreneur since he was nine. Twenty-five years in the business of design gave Bruce the practical, holistic insights for going into the design of business with his Massive Change Network five years ago. In doing so he laid the foundation for the new discipline of enterprise design, successfully applying his design thinking methodology to economic, cultural, governmental, environmental and social change.

Interface Design Professors and Design Consultants at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. He has worked for a number of international clients and companies such as MetaDesign San Francisco, the London Science Museum and the Fraunhofer Institute for Media Communication in Bonn. His design work has won many awards such as the Tokyo Media Arts Festival Excellence Award, the New York TDC Certificate of Excellence in Printing and the EuroPrix Multimedia Class Student Award.

Di'an Fan is the dean of central academy of fine arts, professor, doctoral supervisor, vice chairman of the Chinese artists association. Engaged in the 20th century Chinese fine arts research, criticism of contemporary art and exhibition planning, art museum studies. Since the 1980 s, Mr. Fan has been traveling all over the world culture, promoting Chinese contemporary art and the dynamic international art exchanges.

Di'an Fan

Assistant Professor at the Art Institute of Chicago. She is also an interdisciplinary artist whose role is as a radical and professional art therapist. Her understanding of art therapy stems from black feminists, black churches, and the use of cultural space for social transformation.

Kevin Kelly

Kevin Kelly is Senior Maverick at Wired magazine. He co-founded Wired in 1993, and served as its Executive Editor for its first seven years. His new book for Viking/Penguin is called The Inevitable, which is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. He is also founding editor and co-publisher of the popular Cool Tools website, which has been reviewing tools daily since 2003. From 1984-1990 Kelly was publisher and editor of the Whole Earth Review, a journal of unorthodox technical news.

Dr. Pascale Fung is a Professor in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. She is an elected Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for her “contributions to human-machine interactions” and an elected Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association for “fundamental contributions to the interdisciplinary area of spoken language human-machine interactions”.

Richard PerezRichard Perez is the founding director of the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design Thinking at the University of Cape Town, which leverages the d.school network of both Potsdam, Germany and Stanford, United States. Richard’s expertise and experience combines design with business thinking, management and strategy. His area of specialisation is design thinking for innovation and strategic leadership; and he has consulted to organisation (private and public) in South Africa, the Africa region and internationally.

Xinping SuVice President and Professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is also the deputy director of the Graphic Arts Committee of China Artists Association and the vice president of China National Academy of Fine Arts. Won the UNESCO "Art Promotion Award" nomination award. His works have been collected by the British Museum, the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University, the Ludwig Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum, the Fukuoka Art Museum, the Australian National Museum,etc.

Peer Mohideen SathikhAssociate Professor Peer Sathikh is presently the Associate Chair (Academic) at the School of Art, Design and Media of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is also the Director of the Centre for Asian Art and Design, which is dedicated the way Asian cultures are encoded and expressed through a range of art and design fields, as well as the translation of international art and design knowledge into practice in Asia. Peer Sathikh holds a Master of Design (MDesRCA) from the Royal College of Art in industrial design and Master of Design in product design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in mechanical engineering.

Sputniko! (Hiromi Ozaki)

Assistant professor of Tokyo Univeristy. British / Japanese artists and designers. Her work has focused mainly on the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of new technologies, often through the lens of feminism and gender issues. Her style is a mix of British black humor and Japanese pop music and is an assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab Media Arts and Sciences.
