October - November

Beloved Family,

I hope that you were as stirred by our revival services as I was! Bro. Page Butler of FSBC Arkansas City did a wonderful job of leading us into worship, and Bro. Ed Ethridge’s

prophetic voice from the pulpit held wonderful insights which were often encouraging, often convicting, and seemingly always exactly what I needed to hear!

How can I say thanks for the things You have done for me:

Things so undeserved, yet You give To prove Your love for me?

- My Tribute by Andraé Crouch

I am particularly excited about the possibilities for ministry and evangelism that lie before us now. One Sun-day recently, our Missions Committee met and voiced several different ways in which FBCD might minister and/or share the gospel with folks here in Douglass. Then, within 48 hours of that discussion, I had two completely separate divinely-appointed encounters arise during the course of my day which each yielded complimentary op-portunities for ministry within our community! It is so very much fun to watch God at work!

One of these is the opportunity to partner with Shoes from the Heart, a ministry which provides free tennis shoes to (especially) children who are in need. This minis-try dovetails nicely with some of our existing ministries, and it will allow us not only an opportunity to meet a basic physical need for many people, but also additional opportunities to share the gospel!

And, as we look toward the months of October and November, we can see numerous opportunities to serve both our brothers and sisters in Christ and those who need to hear the precious gospel of Jesus Christ as well! Things like Trunk-or-Treat, Fall Festival, our Mexico Mission Trip, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, etc. offer us countless possibilities to magnify Jesus to others. Mission Opportunities Abound Throughout October and November, FBCD will have

several opportunities to contribute to great missions causes!

Viola Webb Associational and State Missions Offering This annual offering will continue throughout October. Perhaps the most important special offering we have each year, this offering provides vital funding for effective ministries in both our state convention, the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists as well as our local association of churches, the South Central Associa-tion of Southern Baptists! FBCD has developed a reputa-tion as a strong supporter of these ministries. Please prayerfully consider giving to this important offering!

Operation Christmas Child - Beginning October 29, FBCD will make available 55 plastic “shoeboxes” for members to use in support of Operation Christmas Child! Members can pack their boxes with newly purchased toys, clothes, and hygiene items. An additional $9 dona-tion in the box helps to ship the box to a physically and spiritually needy child. Boxes are due back on November 19. Please note that new customs regulations now prohibit including toothpaste or candy of any kind in the shoebox. Douglass Holiday Food Drive - FBCD works together with the Douglass Ministerial Alliance in the collection

and distribution of non-perishable food baskets to local families in need. Such food items will be col-lected at FBCD from Sunday, No-vember 19 through Sunday, De-cember 17. An angel tree will also be available so that we may pro-vide gifts for the families’ children.

Mission: Juarez Gifts for the Family On November 7, members of FBCD will head back to Juárez, Mexico (this time alongside friends

from four other SCASB churches!) in order to build a home for a family in need, distribute evangelistic materi-als to children living near the build site, and minister to the children of the Bethel Orphanage in Juárez.

Once again, FBCD would like to provide special housewarming gifts for the family of the home which we will build. The following items are requested: large car-pet pieces or rugs, interior/exterior paint, bath and hand towels, blankets, bed pillows, sheets, a box/floor fan, mini blinds (which fit within a 35.5” window), a garden hose, and metal cooking utensils. Watch for a sign-up in the foyer to indicate items that you would like to provide!

Praying! Giving! Going!

Can You Help Our Compassion Ministry? If you know someone who would benefit from having a meal delivered, please contact the church office. When someone is recuperating from a hospital stay

or an illness, it would be nice to provide them with a meal or two, but if we don’t know who they are, it is dif-ficult to help. Please help us to help them by contacting us at 746-2929 about needs. We will pass the word along to the Compassion Committee.

Awana Starts Strong, Needs Your Help!

by Awana Commander Don Peacock

Dear FBCD Family, We kicked off another Awana year back in August and we’ve hit the

ground running! The clubbers are getting settled into their routine and have already started memorizing God’s Word. We have a large group this year and each week we add a few new members. As the days get shorter and the tem-peratures begin to drop, it reminds us that Fall is upon us. Fall is an exciting time for our Awana clubbers. Here are some of the activities we have planned for the near future: First up, on October 4th we will have a field trip to Ron Harrod’s Pumpkin Patch to select pumpkins! Clubbers will be required to turn in a permission slip, signed by parents/guardians, in order to go. Our next theme night will be ‘Pajama Night,’ held on October 25th. Then, as we head into November, we will not have Awana clubs on the 22nd as we will be celebrating Thanksgiving at the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. We will return on the 29th for ‘Flashlight Night.’ And, before you know it, December will be here! De-cember brings the Awana store night as clubbers use their hard-earned shares to buy Christmas gifts for their friends and family. Which reminds me…we are always willing to accept gift items for the clubbers to purchase at store night. Last year, we emptied our reserves! We are running critically low on gift items. So as you’re shop-ping for those must-have Christmas items in October, if you see something on sale, pick it up and throw it in your buggy. Then, simply bring it by the church, and we’ll add it to our store offerings. Church family, on behalf of our clubbers and leaders, I thank you for all the support you have provided and con-tinue to provide for this crucial children’s ministry. God is hard at work in the Awana clubs and so are His workers! But frankly, we need more help. As I mentioned before, our club continues to grow and we have had to combine classes because we don’t have enough leaders. We need ‘listeners.’ We have leaders to ‘teach’ the lessons, we just need you to listen to the clubbers recite their verses. So, I ask you to pray and ask God how you might be able to help, even part-time. “The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Matthew 9:37.

FBCD to Consider 2018 Budget FBCD’s Stewardship Committee plans to present a

2018 budget proposal for discussion and vote during the regular business meeting scheduled for Sunday, Novem-ber 19. Prior to this meeting, the budget proposal will be made available to the church for prayerful reflection.

After having an opportunity to prayerfully consider the budget proposal, members will be asked to participate in a ballot poll following a Sunday morning worship cel-ebration to affirm or discourage the adoption of the budg-et proposal. The results of this poll are non-binding, but they will be used to inform the Stewardship Committee and the church as a whole prior to the actual vote to adopt the proposed budget. If the Stewardship Committee deems it advisable, they may make revisions to their pro-posal in light of the poll results. The final budget proposal will then be presented for adoption at FBCD’s regular business meeting on Sunday, November 19 at 5:00 p.m.

Any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the proposed budget should be directed to Pastor Voyt or one of the members of the Stewardship Committee. Dialogue is also welcome during discussion of the budget at the November 19 business meeting. During that meeting, members will formally vote on the proposal’s adoption or return it to the committee for further development. If nec-essary, a newly revised proposal will be presented in the December business meeting.
