KOREAN BAPTIST CHURCH, HAVELOCK, NORTH CAROLINA

During the month of OCtober, we had many

different activities happening. One of the

highlights from the month was being able to

attend the Korean Baptist Church in Havelock,

NC. It is the church my mom attends and has

been a faithful supporter of Vision 2 Hear

through the years.

We met together

on a Saturday for a

youth rally and church

gathering to teach all

who were interested

some Sign Language.

Our time was not all

spent in work, though.

We took some time to

play some games like

Mummy Wrap.

We then spent the afternoon in Bible Study

and learning a few songs for the the youth to

help perform in church on Sunday morning.

Students learned and performed Light Up

The Sky by The Afters, You Raise Me Up by

Selah and Today is the Day by Lincoln Brewster.

They did exceptionally well and I was very proud

of them for all of their efforts. We were also

joined by Nathan Smoker and Trevor

Jenkins both serving as interns for Vision

2 Hear and by The Tucker Family who

have been working and learning sign

language through Vision 2 Hear.

continue to pray for the Korean Baptist

Church while they seek to relocate in the

next year. Pray God provides them with

the perfect spot for their faithful

congregation.

WAVE: SOULARIZE WAVE CONFERENCEThe WAVE conference went very well this

year. We were graciously hosted by Stockbridge

First United Methodist Church. Trevor, Stacey

and all the folks at the church served us so very

well and made the conference a breeze. We met

on Friday night for some initial work on songs

and then had Bible study. Saturday morning

brought new vim and vigor to our practice time

as groups worked on perfecting one of their own

songs.

The afternoon time was broken up by

taking some time to play some games and have

Bible study time.As you can see from the pics,

the groups had a great time working, learning

and playing together!

During the day we also heard from Nathan

Smoker, one of the V2H Interns, who shared his

testimony and how God has been working in his

life. Nathan has recently overcome some

addictions to cutting and drugs and has been

sharing his story. For more on his story, click

The emphasis for the weekend was to learn

to a resting development in life. So often our

lives are characterized by busyness, excessive

activities and little time to just be with the Lord.

We purposely built in some time to consider and

pray about scheduling time with the Lord. Our

focus passage was Psalm 23:1-3 primarily but

we did do some work through the whole

passage.

One of the projects we did was to rewrite

the 23rd Psalm. Here is a rendition:

“The Lord is my Debit Card; I can access

His account at any time. He lets me use it to

stay in places overnight or to buy meals on the

road. He adds to my balance everyday. Even

though I wade through the Valley of Creditors, I

will not fear the IRS or Bank Of America for He is

with me. Knowing his PIN comforts me. His

signature is on every check too, just in case I

need them. He also prepares a savings account

for me in the presence of those who have tried

to rob me or steal my identity. Surly my account

is safe and protected and I will dwell in the

security of the Lord forever!”

The weekend ended as wonderfully as it

started but just a different location. Our Sunday

finished up at New Vision with a wonderful meal

provided by Freddie Love. He did an

outstanding job with the BBQ! Thanks Freddie!

WAVE WORKS

WAVE TEAM FUN During the WAVE conference we spend a lot of time working but we also take time to do fun team building activities. These activities include listening well to instructions, assisting teammates and learning how to simply laugh at yourself!

More North Carolina While I was in NC, I was busy with many

different activities. I was part of several

meaningful events. Some of the time was spent

investing time in two of our student interns,

Nathan and Trevor. During the week they had to

work on a couple of Bible studies from scratch

and present them to me, with outlines and thesis

etc. My goal was to help prepare them better for

ministry in the future as they become men of

God.

I was also able to be part of CJ’s birthday

party at school and his home. It’s so funny that

he wanted me to come as Billy Hill. You should

have seen the teachers and principal when they

met Billy!

Not only was that great fun but we were

able to attend and cheer Cj, Nathan and Noah in

each of their sporting events: Soccer,

Gymnastics and Baseball.

I got to attend a very special event right

after one of CJ’s soccer games. We were at a

local park that was sponsoring an outreach for

Spanish communities. As i was walking around,

I spoke to a man about possibly signing a few

songs. I don’t normally offer my services as

such but for some reason I did this time. He said

“You may very well be a God-send. One of our

groups just cancelled”. And so, I spoke to the

lady in charge and a little later we were able to

do a few songs, with a couple of them being in

Spanish! It’s really cool to see how God works

sometimes!

Another very exciting time was the day I

spent at Camp Albermarle with Nathan and his

5th grade class. We did everything from

canoeing to tree climbing. This was an outing for

all the 5th grade classes to work on team

building and group dynamics. It was awesome

to be a “chaperone” on this trip and to spend

the day hanging out with Nate and his

classmates.

We also watched Noah at a couple of his

baseball games where he pitched very well and

then we got to see Nathan at gymnastics where

he has quickly become one of the best tumblers

on their squad.

I thank God for the chances to be part of all

these activities and for the way he has brought

us all together for many different reasons and

tasks. I celebrate all the people who were part of

the NC trip!
