Nature Families
Great for families with children of different ages. For all ages (adult accompaniment required for all
children); fee: $1/Person. Registration required. Meet at the Upper Pavilion.
Camo Critters Tuesday, October 2; 11:00 a.m.– Noon
Learn all about the amazing ways our neighbors in nature can hide in plain
sight. Play a fun camouflage game and go on a nature walk to look for camo critters!
Turkey Tales Tuesday, November 13; 11:00 a.m.– Noon
It's turkey time here at Crowder. Join us as we explore turkey tales, stories, and songs. Learn how to ruffle your
feathers and practice your best call. Then go on a turkey trot.
Pine Tree Party Tuesday, December 4; 11:00 a.m.– Noon
It's a party at Crowder and who is our guest of honor? Pine Trees! Bring your family down to the park as we explore
our evergreen friends through binoculars, magnifying glasses, and our own eyes.
See what animals call these pine giants home and how they help the habitat.

Crowder By Night
Family programs that explore the park at night. For all ages (adult accompaniment required for all children); fee: $1/Person. Registration required. See the program description for the meeting location.
Spooky Spiders Friday, October 19; 6:00–7:00 p.m.
Did you know there are over 40,000 different species of spiders! Join us as we explore a few
arachnids found in our park as we search out these 8-legged creatures. Learn how and why spiders
build webs and make a fun craft about these creepy critters. Meet at the Heron Shelter.
Seasonal Scavenger Hunt Friday, November 30; 4:30–5:30 p.m.
Scavenger hunts are a great way to explore the park in a new way! Bring the whole family and enjoy a crisp autumn night searching for clues focused on
nature and night-time critters. Sip on hot apple cider and make a fall craft. Meet at the Upper Pavilion.
The Winter Sky Friday, December 21; 4:30–5:30 p.m.
Winter is a great season to gaze at stars! Learn your way around winter's constellations, enjoy hot cocoa, and learn about the mysterious night sky.
Use our binoculars or bring your own pair but make sure you bundle up 'cause it's cold outside! Meet at the Upper Pavilion.
Family Features

Pondering Pumpkins Sunday, October 14;
2:00–3:00 p.m. Explore the uses of pumpkins, past and present, then study pumpkins
inside and out. Where do they come from? How do they grow?
Will they float? Find out the answer to these questions and paint
a small pumpkin to take home.
Native Americans Sunday, November 18;
2:00–3:00 p.m. Walk back in time with a park
naturalist to learn about the original Americans. Along our journey, we will discover edible and medicinal plants and practice our quiet walk. Play games like Native American
children and make a fun craft!
Microscope Mania Sunday, December 16;
2:00–3:00 p.m. Bring it into focus! Have fun
observing natural objects under the microscope and with a magnifying
glass. Discover ice and crystals, then sketch what everyday objects
look like under the scope in a special science journal.
Spooktacular Spiders Monday, October 29; 11:00 a.m. – Noon
Do you think spiders are spectacular or just plain spooky? Create a spider craft in
celebration of Halloween!
Growing Gratitude Monday, November 26; 11:00 a.m. – Noon
During a month that celebrates thankfulness, come to the park and make a craft to spread
the gratitude!
Snowman Celebration Monday, December 17; 11:00 a.m. – Noon
Winter is right around the corner! Come to the park to make snowman crafts
without any snow required!
Nature’s Hide and Seek
Wednesday, October 3; 11:00 a.m. – Noon Look closely and discover how animals play hide and seek. Play games, read a story, and make a camo craft
to learn about how and why animals blend in with their surroundings in nature. Go on a nature hike and find
out how many hidden creatures we can see!
Gobble Gobble Wednesday, November 14; 11:00 a.m. – Noon Wild Turkeys are smart and fascinating birds.
No wonder they were almost chosen as our national mascot. Come learn some feathery facts,
read a story, and make a terrific turkey craft.
Forever Green Wednesday, December 5; 11:00 a.m. – Noon
How do pine trees stay so green when it is so cold outside? Who loves to live in evergreens during winter? We will explore the answers to these & other questions using our five senses during a winter stroll around the
park and by doing an art project. We will also read The Sheltering Cedar by local author Anne Runyon.
Kids Get Crafty
For all ages (adult accompaniment required for all children); fee: FREE. Registration is not required.
Meet at the Cardinal Shelter.
We will bring the materials if you bring the imagination!
continued Nature Watchers
Preschool children with accompanying adult(s) discover the natural world through stories, hands-on
nature activities, games, crafts, and outdoor exploration. For ages 3-5. Fee: $4/Child. Preregistration is required.

Discover the Park
Walk in the Woods Saturdays, October 13, November 17, and
December 15; 10:00–11:00 a.m.
Take a walk in the woods and discover the animals and plants that call our park home. Help collect data for our Natural Resource Inventory Database and other citizen
science projects. All experience levels are welcome. Let's learn together! For ages 14 & up; fee: FREE. Registration is not required. Meet at the Park Office.
Bugs in Nature Monday, October 1; 10:30–11:00 a.m.
Explore bugs of
different colors and shapes through
centers, songs, and stories.
Leaves in Nature Monday, November 12;
10:30–11:00 a.m.
Red, yellow, orange, and brown - leaves come in all different sizes and colors. Practice your color and
shape recognition through centers, songs, and stories.
Tiny Tots
A half-hour weekday program for children ages 18 months to 3 years old,
with an accompanying adult; fee: $2/child. Preregistration is required. Meet at the Upper Pavilion.

We're looking for the best dog tricks and canine costumes in Wake County! If your dog has a special talent and/or a super cool costume, come and show us during this afternoon of fun. For all ages; FREE.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE November 1–30, 2018
Our sixth annual food drive will be held during the month of November. All donations benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North
Carolina. We encourage you to get involved in your community and support a good cause like
this one. Help us make this year our biggest one yet! Food donations can be dropped off in
a bin located in front of the Park Office OR in front of the large bulletin board at the Upper Pavilion.

Check Out A Discovery Box!
Want to explore the park with the knowledge of a naturalist? Check out a discovery box from
the park! Discovery boxes are self-guided lesson plans, intended for use by teachers of small classes or parents who wish to educate children without requesting a formal program through the office. All boxes come complete with hands-on lesson plans, equipment, story
books, guides, and take-home activities!
