Baptism: Parents who wish to have their child baptized need to call the Rectory. Preparation classes are required and are by appointment only. Baptisms will be held the first Sunday of every month at 1:00 pm. Sponsors and Godparents: If you are 18 years of age or older, you must register as an adult and be confirmed in the Catholic Church. If you wish to be a Sponsor for Confirmation or a Godparent, you must be an active parishioner and attending Mass. Matrimony: Couples contemplating this Sacrament must contact the Parish Office at least one year in advance. All couples planning marriage must attend Pre-Cana classes or Engaged Encounter. Ministry of the Sick: Parishioners who are homebound and would like to receive the Eucharist, please call the Rectory. If you would like to have your name included on the Prayer List in the bulletin, please call the Rectory. RCIA: Adults inquiring about the Catholic Church with a desire to become Catholic are invited to call the Parish Office for more information about the Rite of Catholic Initiation of Adults which begins in September and runs through the following Easter.
Adoration On Thursdays, Adoration will be held in the Church from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. All are welcome to come for any amount of time.

A message from Fr Juan C. Gaviria Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A
First Reading: Isaiah 5:1-7. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 80:9,12-16,19-20. Second Reading: Philippians 4:6-9. Gospel Reading: Matthew 21:33-43
Today's Gospel follows directly after last Sunday gospel n which Jesus was questioned by Jewish religious leaders about the source of his teaching authority. After refusing to answer their questions, Jesus tells the parable of the two sons and then criticizes the priests and elders for their lack of belief in John the Baptist. In today's Gospel, Jesus once again speaks to the priests and elders with a parable. In this parable, the landowner leases his vineyard to tenants and sends his servants to collect the portion of the harvest that the tenants owe to him. Several times the servants are sent to collect payment, and each time they are beaten and killed by the tenants. Finally, the landowner sends his son to collect his rent. The tenants, believing that they will inherit the vineyard if the landowner dies without an heir, plot together and kill the landowner's son. After telling the parable, Jesus questions the chief priests and elders about what the landowner will do to the wicked tenants. They all agree that the landowner will kill the wicked tenants and give the land to new tenants who will pay the rent. In telling the parable, Jesus is clearly drawing upon Isaiah 5:1-7, which is today's first reading and one that the priests and elders would have known well. Jesus doesn't, therefore, have to explain the symbolism of the parable; the Pharisees would have understood that the vineyard represented Israel, the landowner represented God, the servants represented the prophets, and the bad tenants represented the religious leaders. Yet Jesus nonetheless explains the meaning of the parable for his audience: the Kingdom of God will be taken from the unbelieving and given to the faithful. The chief priests and elders have condemned themselves with their answer to Jesus' question. Today's Gospel has a parallel in Mark 12:1-12. There are some notable differences, however. In Matthew's version, the religious leaders condemn themselves; in Mark's Gospel, Jesus answers his own question. Matthew names the religious leaders as Pharisees and chief priests. Clearly this Gospel shows the tension that was mounting between Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders who thought that his message was dangerous. Matthew's Gospel was written about 70 years after Jesus' death and reflects the conflicts and tensions found in the Christian community for whom Matthew was writing. Many biblical scholars believe that the tension between Matthew's community and their Jewish neighbors can also be heard in today's reading. This Gospel reminds us of the importance of listening to God's word. God speaks to us in many ways—through Scripture, through our Church tradition, in our Church's teaching, and through modern-day prophets. Are we attentive and receptive to God's word to us through these messengers?

El Evangelio de hoy sigue directamente el del domingo anterior, en el cual Jesús preguntó a Jesús acerca de los líderes religiosos judíos acerca de la fuente de su autoridad para enseñar. Luego de rehusarse a responder a sus preguntas, Jesús les cuenta una parábola referida a dos hijos y luego critica a los Sacerdotes y a los viejos por su falta de fe en Juan el Bautista. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús una vez más habla a los sacerdotes y a los ancianos usando una parábola. En esta parábola, el dueño de la tierra alquila su viña a unos inquilinos y envía sus siervos a recolectar la porción de la cosecha que los arrendatarios le deben. Muchas veces los siervos son enviados a recoger el pago y en cada ocasión estos son golpeados por los inquilinos. Finalmente, el dueño de la tierra envía a su hijo a recoger la renta. Los inquilinos, creyendo que heredarán la tierra, si el dueño se queda sin heredero, hacen un complot para asesinar al hijo del dueño. Luego de contarles la parábola, Jesús pregunta al jefe de los sacerdotes y de los ancianos acerca del lo que el dueño de la tierra hará a los malvados inquilinos. Ellos todos están de acuerdo en que el dueño de la tierra matará a los perversos arrendatarios y le dará la tierra a nuevos inquilinos quienes pagarán la renta. Al contarles la parábola, Jesús claramente está pintando la escena narrada en Isaías 5: 1-7, la cual se usa hoy como primera lectura y que ha de ser conocida muy bien por los sacerdotes y de los ancianos. Jesús entonces no tiene que explicar el simbolismo de la parábola; los Fariseos entenderán bien que la viña representa a Israel, el dueño de la tierra representa a Dios, los servidores representan a los profetas y los malos inquilinos representan a los líderes religiosos. Aún así, Jesús explica el significado de la parábola para su audiencia: el reino de Dios le será quitado a los no creyentes y le será dado a los que tienen fe. El jefe de los sacerdotes y de los ancianos se han condenado ellos mismos con la respuesta a la pregunta de Jesús. El evangelio de hoy tiene un paralelo en Marcos 12:1-12. Hay sin embargo algunas diferencias notables. En la versión de San Mateo, los líderes religiosos se condenan ellos mismos; en el evangelio de San Marcos, Jesús contesta su propia pregunta. San Mateo nombra a los líderes religiosos como fariseos y jefes de los sacerdotes. Este Evangelio muestra la tensión que se estaba preparando entre Jesús y los líderes religiosos, quienes consideraban su mensaje como peligroso. We at St James are happy to be able to have In-Person Masses once again. We will continue to live stream our Masses for those who are unable to attend. In following the executive orders given by the Office of the Governor, we ask that you please follow the guidelines listed below.
Masks MUST be worn at all times
Upon entering, please use the hand sanitizer provided for you in the vestibule.
Please wait for an usher to escort you to your seat. We will seat parishioners towards the front to ease the disinfection process for our staff.
The Sign of Peace is suspended at this time.
Please do not congregate outside after Mass.
