Good News Reflection 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time October 28, 2018
Jeremiah 31:7-9 Ps 126:1-6 Hebrews 5:1-6 Mark 10:46-52
Making the most of divine opportunities After Jesus touches our lives -- answers a prayer, gives us a healing, provides a life-changing insight, or makes any other kind of difference -- what do we do next? Our life has been changed by divine grace. Do we make the most of this new opportunity?
God never forces us to take a new direction or follow a certain path, not even if we've made a bargain with him, such as: "Lord, if you heal me, I will go to Mass every day."
Jesus says to us what he said to Bartimaeus, the man he healed in this Sunday's Gospel reading: "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Go where?
Sometimes his instructions are a little more informative than that. When he cures someone from sin, he adds: "Go and sin no more". Okay, but go where?
Every step we take is important. Where we go and what we do next makes a difference that ripples off into the future with ramifications (blessings and/or woes) that are impossible for us to predict. Jesus isn't down-playing the significance of this. Rather, what happens next is so important that he wants us to have full control over it.
Jesus told Bartimaeus "Go your way." And what did Bartimaeus do with that freedom? He "followed him on the way." He opted for the best possible direction. His life changed dramatically, not only because he had been blind and now he had good eyesight, but because he wanted to learn from Jesus and become one of his follow-ers.
How many times have we returned to an old familiar path after an encounter with Christ? If following him means taking a new direction, getting involved in a new ministry, or changing careers or friends, we too often settle back into old routines. Comfort zones are hard to leave. But following Jesus is a life-changing adventure if we're sincere about our faith.
Following Jesus and learning from him should be our highest priority. Every encounter with Christ should change us -- even at Mass when we reunite ourselves to him in the Eucharist.
Questions for Personal Reflection: Think of the last time Jesus responded to your need for help. What changed afterward? How long did the change last?
Questions for Community Faith Sharing: Describe a time when you changed directions in your life because of an encounter with Christ. What did Jesus do for you? How did you figure out which way to go afterward?

¿Ir a dónde?

Notes from the Liturgist
LOVE is Spelled T-I-M-E
God created everything in this world in time for a purpose. “For everything there is a season and for every matter a time under heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Time is very important to the operations of nature. In the beginning God was ‘in time’ when he created the whole universe.
God created time to make the world in order. There is a time for everything until God rested. Through time, God perfectly made his plans and will for the world. Human beings are born in time. Time is very essen-tial to us human beings. A wise use of time helps us to become faithful stewards.
Fr. Amsberry once said: “Love is spelled T-I-M-E. It is about being with one another and sharing what we have to share.” God wants us to increase that love that he shared with us. The question is, To whom? To what do we give our time?
If love is spelled T-I-M-E, then let us share that time to our families, friends and our parish community.
This weekend, Fr Benjamin Tapia, the Pastor of St. Anthony in Forest Grove, will be here with us to share his time. He will be talking about the last pillar of stewardship “Time”
My dear friends, let us consider sharing our time with others as we show our love for them. Sharing our time with others makes our life more meaningful and useful.

Killing the Pain, Not the Patient: Palliative Care vs. Assisted Suicide
Read the full version at usccb.org/killing-the-pain
~*~
Assisted Suicide is in the news and on lawmakers’ agendas. Supporters call it “Aid in Dying” & claim it’s just another option for end-of-life care. But it’s radically different from the practice of palliative care, the heal-ing art of relieving pain and other distressing symptoms for patients who are seriously ill.
Palliative care intends to comfort a patient, addressing physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs. Assisted suicide, by contrast, directly intends the patient’s death. It ignores any underlying problems, and instead abandons and eliminates the patient who has the problems.
As a society and as individuals, we must dedicate ourselves to providing genuinely compassionate care that protects God’s gift of life.

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
All Souls - November 2 “And since so few people now hear the words, ‘Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened’, let each of us, when he approaches the Holy Table, look upon himself as the delegate of all those he loves or has loved, living or dead. When God makes His way into our souls, He does not find us alone. All those from whom we proceed and who have gone to sleep before us may receive, in purgatory some benefit of grace pervading us, their living children, when we pray for them. And all our friends who are kept away from the Source of grace by sin, indifference, ignorance, and incredulity – those who have helped us and those we have harmed – are present in our thoughts in this ineffable instant.” (Francois Maurias)
Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel, available 7x24.

Novak’s Dementia and Alzheimer Dinner Hello, we will be hosting a special free dinner for dementia and Alzheimer folks and their families on Wednesday,
November 28, at 5:30 pm. This meal is FREE for these deserving families. Our sweet Papa was affected by this at the end of his life, and we want to bless the caregivers and folks who are
dealing with this difficult situation. We have chosen as a family to do a more intimate dinner for folks instead of the larger Thanksgiving Dinner. We wanted to do this in honor and out of respect for Pop. We are doing this as an invitation only with reservations event. We will need the family to call and confirm the guests: we will need the name, number of guests and if they are very social or more private for seating purposes. If additional transportation assistance is required we have volunteers willing to help. The Novak Family, Kaymarie Novak 541-967-9488
