29th Sunday of Ordinary Time
St. Paul addresses, the letter we hear today, to the ‘church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” The word “church” (ekklesia) denotes an assembly or more broadly the people of God. It is a living community not a building. The second half of the statement “in God the Father …” indicates that this group became a community at God’s initiative. God called them to-gether in Christ. There was no other reason for this group to be together except for God’s gracious call. Paul reminds the community of how he sees their re-lationship to God and the world in this simple ad-dress. It reminds us that being together as a church is different from any other grouping. Church is not a voluntary association but a community called together by God for God’s own purpose.
Paul then prays the blessings of grace and peace for them. This choice of words modified the traditional greetings to become a blessing. This blessing is offered to support the ongoing call by God to the Thessalonians. Paul knew that the call of God was continuous and each member should respond daily. Paul’s blessing of grace and peace asks that the recipi-ents may fully know the internal joy of living in God’s presence as a chosen community.
Please take time to pray for our parish community. Ask for grace and blessing. As you go about your ac-tivities this week, please do something to strengthen our parish.
Thank you for your response to the Pastoral Council’s survey. At Our Lady of Lourdes this week, parents of those who are preparing for the Sacrament of Recon-ciliation will meet Wednesday evening. There will be a Baptism at the 9 am Mass next Sunday. I encourage Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Com-munion are encouraged to attend one of three dioce-san programs being offered. One of these will take place at Lourdes on October 30th.
Have a blessed week!
Fr. Len

We are resuming this practice at Our Lady of Lourdes.
It promotes the value of welcoming new members into
the Church in a liturgy which includes the active par-
ticipation of the assembly as well as music, proces-
sions, symbols and all the elements of a genuine cele-
bration and welcoming our new Catholic Christians.

The Catholic Education Foundation has awarded
over $18,000 to Our Lady of Lourdes School to
provide tuition assistance to our students for the

Foundation was established through the generosi-
ty of the thousands of donors to the One Faith,
One Hope, One Love campaign of the Archdiocese
of Cincinnati. Your active participation in that
campaign was critical to its success. One of the
foundation’s key roles is to distribute Catholic
school tuition assistance, designed to strengthen
the presence of our Catholic schools in fulfilling
their mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The foundation was able to award over $2 million
in scholarships for the school year. We thank you
for your generous support of this campaign, and
appreciate the tuition assistance the Catholic Edu-
cation foundation was able to provide.
We want to thank everyone who took the time to schedule and have photos taken for our 90th
