Why bowl in Leagues? Here’s Whyby Fred Eisenhammer

About.com lists 10 reasons to join a bowling league. Here are the reasons along with my comments:

1 – The CharactersAbout.com Bowling: League bowling brings out some of the most colorful, interesting, baffling personalities in the world. You have no idea these people are in your community until you join a bowling league. From unbelievably tal-ented bowlers to inexplicably strange humans, you get a cross-section of society you didn’t realize existed.

Fred Eisenhammer: Because there are so many characters, there is absolutely no shortage of individuals to write about. You never know when you encounter a bowling league icon like Ken Borshell among the mix of players. Borshell is someone who for 30 years has traveled round trip more than 200 miles once every week just so he can bowl in Los An-geles on the same league team as his good friends. Borshell hit the road from Bakersfield for the first seven years and then drove from Palm Desert for 23 years. He’s now decided to bowl closer to home.

2 – CamaraderieAbout.com Bowling: Bowling leagues, especially with your friends (or strangers who will become your friends), are great ways to spend a few hours a week.

Fred Eisenhammer: It’s a great way to make friends, especially for widows and widowers.

3 – FunAbout.com Bowling: Whether league bowling or not, it’s fun to bowl.

Fred Eisenhammer: Not only is it fun, but it’s exciting. Recently, Guys and Dolls anchor man Greg Kolski prepared to bowl in the10th frame of his second league game knowing that the game was on the line. Kolski needed to mark to seal the victory for his team. Considering his average was a robust 186, Kolski’s teammates were feeling pretty confident. Then Kolski drilled a pocket shot that inexplicably left the imposing 6-7 split and it was apparent that the bowling gods had intervened to upset the norm. There were no groans from Kolski’s team. It was more like shock. Then Kolski threw his big hook for his second shot, and again it was another huge surprise. He clipped the 6 pin gently on the right side and the pin slid over and barreled into the 7 – an improbable shot that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

4 – GamblingAbout.com Bowling: Small-time gambling is acceptable in most bowling leagues. Often, half your league fees go toward your bowling and the other half goes toward the prize fund. At the end of the season, you and your team will receive prize money based on where you finish. Individual prizes are usually up for grabs, too. Other ways to win a pit-tance during league bowling involve card games and strike pots.

Fred Eisenhammer: It’s not usually a tremendous sum of money up for grabs, but bowlers are a competitive group – and even a little money means a lot.

5 – FitnessAbout.com Bowling: Repeatedly hurling a heavy sphere requires strength and endurance, and you can burn a significant number of calories bowling.

Fred Eisenhammer: Bowling may not be the exercise program prescribed by your doctor, but even a little exercise is better than none.

6 – PizzaAbout.com Bowling: Never mind you’re counteracting the exercise portion while cutting into your prize fund – it’s delicious.

Fred Eisenhammer: No mention of beer?

7 – TelevisionAbout.com Bowling: If bowling isn’t enough for you, many bowling alleys have TVs playing whatever most of you want to watch (typically sports). Depending on the time of your league, you can watch entire hockey and baseball games while bowling.

Fred Eisenhammer: Hockey? No thanks. Thumbs-up on football and basketball – and any game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

8 – United States Bowling Congress MembershipAbout.com Bowling: You’ll be a part of the USBC, which costs less than $20 a year (and is often hidden in your league fees, so you don’t even have to think about it if you don’t want to). Membership qualifies you for awards and gives you discounts with various merchants, including hotels and rental cars.

Fred Eisenhammer: As a USBC member, a bowler is eligible to participate in many tournaments, such as the West Coast Senior Tour, which often has events in the Southland.

9 – RelaxationAbout.com Bowling: Except on the nights during which you’re bowling so poorly you find yourself doing anything but relaxing, the sport can give you a nice respite from the workday or workweek. Show up, relax, throw a few frames and have fun.

Fred Eisenhammer: Relaxation is nice in theory. Fact is, even a small pot of money at the end of the rainbow creates a competitive environment. And many bowlers feel the tension during the ninth and 10th frames. But competitiveness is a good thing. It’s fun to show that one can come through when the chips are down. A bad thing is when some bowlers resort to gamesmanship – deliberately distracting the other team’s bowlers or “disappearing” so the other team’s players bowl ahead of them in the 10th frame.

10 – StatusAbout.com Bowling: You’ll be amazed by how many people are impressed when they find out you bowl in a league.

Fred Eisenhammer: Perhaps more importantly, bowling in a league could provide a boost to your self-esteem. Your first 200 game, your first 500 series – it shows that you can accomplish things in your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and older. It’s no coincidence that some of the most successful people are avid bowlers.

BOWLING NEWSNovember 12, 2015 Page 3

Late last month the Professional Bowlers Assn. League announced the core players for its eight teams that will be competing next year for the Elias Cup.

The two-time defending champion Silver Lake (Calif.) Atom Splitters, for instance, will return franchise player Chris Barnes along with Dick Allen and Tom Daugherty.

The L.A. X, which finished second to the Atom Split-ters the past two seasons, will have back franchise player Jason Belmonte along with Stu Williams and Martin Lar-sen.

It will be the fourth season for the PBA League with the competition starting in April in Portland, Maine.

But has anyone noticed? Does anyone really care?Of course, there will be a following for any pro sports

league, but the PBA League seems as if it’s still struggling to catch on.

A story detailing partial rosters for the 2016 PBA League drew an absolute yawn when it was posted on website Bowling Evolved, which is read by more than 1,200 people.

A paltry total of 22 people viewed the story – contrasted with almost 600 views of a photo of newly named United States Bowling Congress Hall-of-Famer Joan Romeo with her Hall-of-Fame bowling daughter, Robin Romeo.

ESPN has shown the PBA League action on a tape-de-layed basis each season – another indicator that fans aren’t pining to watch the matches.

Fact of the matter is that the telecasts aren’t exciting enough. And all of the ESPN and league gimmicks can’t elevate fans’ interest in the PBA League.

When the Elias Cup broadcasters fail to report that the L.A. X and Silver Lake Atom Splitters both represent the City of Angels in a “Battle of L.A.,” there’s a definite problem somewhere.

Five-time PBA Tour titlist Eric Forkel, one of the clearest-thinking bowling analysts around, was asked to address the PBA League’s sagging popularity.

His response: “There’s a lack of interest in professional bowling and it’s been that way for a long time. Back in the ’80s and ’90s, it was the lead-in to Wide World of Sports on ABC. I think that’s when it was great and a league at that time may have been great. I think now it’s like just OK or no big deal.

“I think the only way a league like this could be great is if the teams would represent different cities – like they do

in all the other major sports. The way it’s set up now to me is not that exciting. I mean they have all these names, but they really do not represent the cities.

“To me, they should have a team from L.A., San Fran-cisco, Chicago, New York, etc. and the teams would have their own venue to bowl out of. You have something like that, they could get behind it and promote it. To me, that’s how you make it something special.

“The way it is now, it’s no big deal and maybe that’s why people don’t care about it that much.”

The league has had eight teams since its first season – two from L.A. But the league has not made an appearance in L.A. and it won’t be here in 2016 either. Furthermore, there is no L.A. presence among the players from the two local teams – or even a California connection. PBA League player Scott Norton lives in Orange County but he will be toiling once again for the New York City WTT Kingpins.

So what can be done?On the surface, the PBA League has plenty to like. It’s

bowling, after all, and that can be fun to watch at times. And it’s nice if bowling athletes can receive some expo-sure on TV – and by a prominent national sports network.

If bowling can’t qualify for the Olympics, at least bowl-ing has a pro league that can be viewed across the country. It just has to be made more interesting.

There are a lot of bowling fans who are willing to tune in to ESPN to watch such giants of the game as Belmonte, Barnes, Pete Weber, Walter Ray Williams Jr., Wes Malott, Sean Rash, Parker Bohn III, Bill O’Neill, Norton and all the rest. And after they do, it’s important to keep them watching.

One of my favorite recommendations has gone un-heeded by PBA League officials, but some day they may regret they haven’t tried to add some zest to the league competitions.

Simply add some Showtime. Enough with the dull.Invite some of the Professional Women’s Bowling

Assn. members to take part. Form a team of top women – and there are so many of them.

Just in California, a team could be formed of formidable women bowlers who likely would be competitive with any of the current franchises. How about a California team of Robin Romeo of Newhall, Missy Parkin of Laguna Hills, Paula Vidad of Sun City, Kimberly Power of San Leandro

Kelly Kulick gave the PBA League a little sparkle when she bowled two strikes for the New York City WTT King-pins in the league’s inaugural Elias Cup. She’s the only woman to bowl in the PBA League. Courtesy of USBC

Perhaps It’s Time Women bowlers Lend a Hand to PbA League

by Fred Eisenhammer

and Michelle Silver of West L.A.? Would people watch the women get their chance to show their talent? I would think, most definitely.

That would certainly bring some pizzazz into a league that badly needs pizzazz.

One woman bowler actually made a brief appearance in the PBA League. That was back in the league’s first season and Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., was the one who got the shot. She had a cameo role for the Kingpins during their Elias Cup victory over the Motown Muscle.

The right-handed Kulick, the only woman to win a PBA Tour title, calmly rolled a solid strike on her first shot. Then on her second – and final shot of the day – Kulick rolled another no-doubt-about-it strike.

That championship match held some excitement on its own, but perhaps the most pulsating moment came when a woman took center stage – and showed she could bowl just as well as the men, if not better.

The PBA League should duly note.

A week ago, newly elected United States Bowling Congress Hall-of-Famer Joan Romeo was asked what she thought of the career of daughter Robin Romeo, likewise a USBC Hall of Famer.

Joan knew quite well all of Robin’s accomplishments – which remain in full gallop amid Robin’s graduation to the senior bowling ranks.

In the same year Joan was named to the Hall of Fame for meritorious service, Robin became the first bowler to win back-to-back USBC Senior Queens titles. Robin out-scored Hall-of-Famer Tish Johnson, 212-191, in the cham-pionship match in May.

Just three years earlier, Robin won the 2012 U.S. Se-nior Women’s Open to become to the first player to claim both a U.S. Women’s Open and Senior U.S. Women’s Open championship.

Just as impressive is that Robin holds the record for advancing to 78 consecutive match-play finals when she was competing on the Professional Women’s Bowling Assn. Tour.

And while Robin was waiting around to win all her ma-jors (she’s won five all told), she stunned her male coun-terparts by winning a West Coast Senior Tournament title in 2004 in Arcadia. That just so happened to be the first time she had entered a WCST event and it’s the only time a woman has won a WCST title.

So what was Joan’s reaction to all of Robin’s laurels?“She’s been remarkable,” said Joan succinctly.

Robin Romeo glows after winning the 2014 USBC Senior Queens in Reno, Nev. She defeated Tish Johnson, 241-188, in the championship match. A year later, Romeo won her second straight Senior Queens title, beating Johnson once again – this time in Green Bay, Wis.

Joan Romeo’s Answer Was Short and to the Pointby Fred Eisenhammer

II began but before the fighting was over he was a sailor in the Italian navy and a man. By that time in 1945 the Nazi’s were driven out of Italy, Mussolini was dead and the Ital-ian navy was fighting along side the Allies. Frank served on two battle cruisers, the Duca Da Osta and the Duca Degli Abruzzi. During his twenty-six months of service shipmate DeLuca was a “cannoneri” (cannoneer or gun-ners mate). He helped keep a twelve inch gun humming.

After the war Frank came to America and started out working on the line in a spaghetti factory. It was a natural fit for a guy who knew spaghetti, loved spaghetti and ate spaghetti. From there he became a food service special-ist and manager in the VA Hospital system. He retired in 1986.

dELUCA continued from page 1It was during his spaghetti curling days that Frank was

introduced to bowling. Our sport came easy for him be-cause before rolling his first bowling ball Frank was a Bocci champion. He simply applied his bocci ball skills on the lanes. He used his bocci form, ball control and ball placement with great success. His transition reminds me of Walter Ray’s move from Horseshoes to Bowling.

At 91 Frank is currently averaging 167. He competes in two leagues, continues to roll a sixteen pound ball and continues to exhibit the agility and strength of a much younger man. His best average is the 183 he posted in his mid eighties. How many 85 year olds do you know with a 183 average?

Frank’s high game (268) was rolled when he was 71 and his high series (684) when he was 74. His favorite ball is his Columbia 300 Blue Knight, serial number OF95098.

He averaged in the 180s for years with what he calls his “cannon ball”.

Who is Frank’s biggest fan? It’s his wonderful wife Helena. While she doesn’t bowl, she is always by Frank’s side and cheering him on. They have been married for nearly half a century and neither can remember a day that they have been apart.

Paisan. Frank is 100% Italian and he loves everything Italian. His favorite food is spaghetti and he has a plate at least twice a week. Can you imagine this guy managing a spaghetti factory?

His other Italian favorites include Gina Lollabrigida, Sophia Loren, Pavaratti and Bocelli. Forget about Sinatra and Bennett, Frank is into vocalists in the Caruso mold. Besides Gina and Sophia his favorite actors are Vittorio Dicira and Victor Gasman. He would love to meet Carlo Rossi the vinter responsible for Paisano, his favorite dry red wine. According to Frank the best bowler in the world is “Norman Duca” (Norm Duke). In Frank’s opinion Norm is exciting to watch. He is gritty. He never gives up. He told me to watch how intense Norm becomes when a game is on the line. His face is so expressive. You can see how focused and determined he is and that usually leads to victory. Best of all, Norm rates with Parker Bohn III and Tony Reyes when it comes to being fan friendly. Norm Duke is a genuinely nice guy. Thank you Seaman Frank DeLuca for serving honorably in World War II. You are a VETERAN, a HERO, a bowling hero.

CENTRAL VALLEy MASTERS 2015 OPEN – ANOTHER FINE EFFORT WITH GREAT bOWLER TURNOUT!

by Bette Addington, California Bowling Writers

BAKERSFIELD, CA — Hats off to the Central Valley Masters Bowling Tournament Club as they hosted their inaugural Central Valley 2015 Open event, October 17-18, hosted by Regency Lanes.

This was the big one with prize money guaranteed for Team, Doubles and Singles events and the group’s first attempt to handle a tournament with three events!

The event kicked off Saturday with the Team event at 9am and 2pm. The strikefest began with Bakersfield’s Bowler of the Year as well as a Director of the CVM, Zack Newman, rolling the first 300 of the event to contribute to his team. But, also making a statement was 2014 Glover Masters Champion, Dupree Dickey, from Oakland, who brought his “A’” game and bowled a 300 for his team event as well. But it didn’t stop there as Dupree went on to post a nice 813 series to go with his 300. And the 300 fest continued with CVM President John Curtis rolling one, followed by San Jose’s Chris Murray adding one of his own and another by Toni-Ann Lupo of Clovis. Fresno’s Riley Chin posted an 814 series as well. And this was all just from the Team event!

Saturday night CVM put on an optional 3-Game Sweeper that drew 24 bowlers who still wanted more action. And, again, EBI Ball Staffer, Zack Newman, returned to do some damage and that he did by starting off with a 300 for his first of three games followed by a 277 and 278 for a great 855 series to show how well the EBI line of balls work for him.

Then along came Sunday where the Singles event was held at 9am and 2pm, and the Doubles at 11am and 4pm. Dupree Dickey had a good night’s sleep and woke up ready to strike with his doubles partner, Necole Johnson of Long Beach. Together they posted a 1658 total for Doubles with Dupree bowling steady and contributing an 837 series while Necole, a 175-average bowler, posting games of 233-278-232 for an awesome 713 series! But Dupree was just getting warmed up as he bowled another 800 for his Singles event with yet another 300 game with scores of 232-300-279 for an 811.

Local Youth stand-out, Zack Long, from Taft, bowled in the Singles event and ended with a scratch 702 series which guaranteed him a place in the standings!

Add to that, Mike Hefley, owner of Bowler’s Edge Pro Shop at Regency joined in and entered in the Singles and also rolled a 300 game.

But the big moment for Sunday was watching Fresno’s Christina Day bowl her 800 series with games of 258-290-265 for an 813 in Doubles to show her girl power and to the amazement of many of the top male bowlers at the event!

The event drew a total of 295 entries--28 for Team, 49 for Doubles and 85 Singles. Kudos to Central Valley Masters Bowling Tournament Club for another successful event in the books!!

WINNETKA — First it was the San Fernando Valley 600 Bowling Club that rolled into Winnetka Bowl.

Two weeks later, the San Fernando Valley 500 Bowling Club stopped at Winnetka Bowl to hold a tournament.

Just like the all-women 600 club, members of the all-women 500 club faced a require-ment for eligibility. In the 500’s case, each woman had to bowl a sanctioned 500 series.

Of course, some of the 500 members have bowled much higher than the qualifying standard. Santa Clarita Valley resident Kaitlin Silva, for instance, has blasted a 289 game and has scored well over 700 many times. Silva averages an impressive 207.

This past Sunday, the 500 club staged a no-tap, handicap invitational tournament at Winnetka Bowl. Members were allowed to invite non-members to take part in the club’s fourth tournament of the year.

For this event, 42 members participated along with 13 guests. Tournament director Myra Kendall said the club’s tournaments used to attract about

100 bowlers, “but times have changed.” Carie Heydon won the Class A division for women with a handicap-aided score of 843

(645 scratch: 211, 157, 277). Joanne Messina claimed the Division B title with a score of 815. And Roxie Rock prevailed in Division C with a score of 716.

Jose Blanco recorded the lone perfect game and also won the men’s Division A title with an 884 score. Frank Spano finished first in Division B with a 781 score.

champion Wes Malott of Pflugerville, Texas, in the open-ing match, 221-217, and was on the ropes against two-time U.S. Open winner Norm Duke of Clermont, Florida, in the second match.

Duke, needing two strikes to close out Barrett in the 10th, struck on his first shot but then left the 10 pin on his second. Barrett stepped up and fired three strikes in the final frame for a 259-255 victory.

“I was just trying to figure out the lanes and make good shots,” Barrett said. “That setup in the 10th against Norm to strike out was one of my better frames. I bowled solid, had a good idea what I was doing. It was one of my better TV shows.”

The starting field of 275 bowlers at the 2015 U.S. Open completed 24 qualifying games over three days before the field was cut to the top 92. The 32-game pinfall totals de-termined the 24 players for the 24 games of match play. After 24 games of match play, the top five advanced to the finals.

Bowlmor AMF, the largest operator of bowling centers in the world, committed to hosting and providing televi-sion sponsorship of more than $250,000 for the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open.

DOWNEY — It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough as Threadworks moved into 1st place in Round 5 by sweep-ing past The Professional Approach 5-0. The US Open pat-tern was playing especially tough tonight as most teams struggled. Paul Varela led the charge to the top, as he fired a very nice 604 series to lead the sweep. Danny Ly led Power House Video Games to a sweep of their own, as they took down Blizz Yogurt 5-0. Danny shot 625, while Greg Neuer led Blizz with 581. Team DV8 is once again in contention for the round lead, as Sam Hitchcock winged his way to 242/623 and led DV8 to a 4-1 win over Linder Insurance.

Linder was paced by Kurt Arakaki 592 and Kevin Val-monte 591. In the best scoring match of the night, Pino’s Pizza prevailed 3-2 as they held off Alhambra Coin Center to win Team Totals by 13. Both teams bowled well, finishing as #1 and #2 scoring teams for the night, and their pair was 250 pins higher than any other two teams combined scoring for a pair. Leading the way for Pino’s was Ramon Torres 627 & Leonard Ruiz 600, while Alhambra was led by Doug Kempt 660 & Steve Gaucin 608. Herzog Insurance took a 4-1 win over the PJ-less Los Altos Trophies team as Mikey Villarreal shot 625 for the winners, while Top Dog for the night went to Los Altos’ Buddy Lucas with a very fine 670.

In the roll off team matches, it was Erickson Foods once again losing the first two games, only to come back strong in Game 3 and not only win the game, but Team Totals. Er-ickson pulls within 2.5 games of holding the #1 seed with the 3-2 win, as nobody managed to shoot 600 series, Herbert

Jones led the way for Keystone Lanes with 589, while Jason Buenviaje shot 563 for Ericksons. Charlie Kinstler shot 614 to lead SYSCO to a 5-0 sweep of Forest Lanes who strug-gled all night to catch SYSCO. Mason Man O’Lantern Sher-man topped Forest with 589. American Harvest Vodka out shot CASAMIGO’S Tequila and won 4-1 as Kevin Jones rolled 588, while Vernon Adams topped the Tequila team with 565. Mike Jennings shot 594 to lead Tifco Industries to a 4-1 win over BOWLIUM, who had the pair’s high series, Craig Stevens with 623. Matt Mosley powered his way to 255 & 638 to lead Cook’s Bowling Supply to a 5-0 sweep over J.A.T. DeeRonn Booker led the Junior Amateur Tour team with 549. In the final pairing, it was GJC Services win-ning 3 points as Juan Zavala topped his squad with 511.

Sidepot winners were Game 1 – Sam Hitchcock 242 Game 2 –Jason Buenviaje 226 however the Financial Advi-sor’s pot was won by Buddy Lucas 225 for $240 with Leon-ard Ruiz Jr. 2nd place with 223 for $100. Game 3 Super Pot went to Mikey Villarreal 255, quite the contrast from last week where you needed 11 strikes or more to win. The TRUE ANCHOR award goes to a new winner, Barry Couch Jr. collected the honors with a 3 game set of 361.

One more week on the dreaded US Open shot to try and move into the Round Lead, improve your standing, or move up the ladder in the Roll Off seedings. I’m sure most can’t wait for May to get here, since we will be finished with this pattern. Hope to see you all down at Del Rio next Monday in Downey. Have a blessed week everyone!

DOWNEY — The combination of the new lane surfaces and the tough patterns are baffling the bowlers in Downey on Monday nights. With few exceptions, good scores are very hard to come by and spares in key frames are changing the fortunes of teams as the second round continues at Del Rio Lanes.

The 80 bowlers in the league tonight shot 3 games each. A total of 240 games bowled. Only 41 were over 200. 56 were under 150.

The first pair of lanes saw two teams coming in excited to start the round with 5-0 records. The match was between the J.A.T. team and the guys from DV8. Scoring was very low, as it was across the house and 2040 from DV8 was enough to win 2 games and totals, for a 4-1 victory. Scott Poddig actually led DV8 with 520. David Yamauchi posted 224/590 for J.A.T., but it was only good for one win.

The second pair was a tight battle between Relax-Release-Repeat and Linder’s Insurance. Relax-Release-Repeat opened a big lead, winning the first game by almost 100, mostly because of Vernon Adams 254 game. Linder’s Insurance made a great come-back winning games 2 and 3, but fell a little short for totals, giving R-R-R a 3-2 victory. Vernon stayed hot, leading the pair with 673. Kurt Arakaki was high for the Linder’s team with 233/584.

Keystone Lanes and Don Julio Tequila both came into their match with a 4-1 record for the round, but will be on opposite sides of the standings next week. Don Julio swept all five games in the match behind strong sets from Buddy Lucas and Bobby Cam-pagnale. Bobby led the way with 239/669, edging out the 246/667 of Buddy.

The next match saw the Ketel One Vodka team easily sweep Cook’s Bowling Supply, winning totals by a little over 250 pins. Led by Eddie Van Daniker’s 242/636, Ketel One improved to 8-2 and will be amongst the leaders going into next week. Matt Schermerhorn had 214/610 for Cook’s in the losing effort.

Los Altos Trophy joins other teams at 8-2 after sweeping all five games from Herzog Insurance. Los Altos edged Herzog by only 17 in the first game, but won the next two by over 300 to run away with the match. Lee Liu started poorly with 129, but came back with 224-507 to lead the Los Altos Trophy team to the easy victory.

Paul Barraco was one of the only bowlers in the league to break 600, using his first game of 245 to squeeze out 611. His big series total led the way for Sysco to take 4 out of 5 games from Alhambra Coin Center. Johnny Sikkens did his part for the Coin Center with 599, but a lack of help and consistent play from Sysco led to the win.

The Professional Approach team, not satisfied with their first round victory, or their 1-4 start for this round, took advantage of the GJC Janitorial team and swept all five games. Billy Myers had the high set on the pair by a wide margin with his 220-246-201/667, and really was the only factor on his team, leading them single handedly to the sweep. In fact, nobody else on the Pro Ap-proach squad had a single game over 180. Gary Duran led GJC with 209/583.

Pino’s Pizza took 4 games from Forest Lanes. Ramon Torres posted a very nice 653 series, in spite of a 167 in the middle game. He bookended it with 247 and 239. Strangely, the one game he struggled in was the only game that his teammate Leonard Ruiz was locked in on, with 245. Jon Diso finished his set with a 219 for 548 to pace Forest Lanes in the losing effort.

Wowo’s Smokin’ Hot BBQ got five needed wins from the Cre-mation Centers of CA. The scores on this pair were brutally low, as Wowo’s posted 645-647-675 for the three games and still won all five, and totals by 225. In fact, Brandon Kraye led the difficult pair with 508!

The final pair in the league was also a 5-0 sweep, as Thread-works evened their record at 5-5 by taking every game from Erick-son Foods. Jamie Carrington, Paul Varela and Eric Snow rotated throwing games just good enough to pull out the wins. Paul Varela led the team with 203/565. Matt Garcia was pretty steady for Er-ickson Foods, but wasn’t able to help his team get any wins.

Sidepots went to Vernon Adams in the first game (254), Leon-ard Ruiz Jr. in the second game (245) and Bobby Campagnale took $234 in the 3rd game super pot with 239.

The Financial Advisors pot was won by Billy Myers Jr. with his 246 game for $220 edging out Leonard Ruiz Jr. by only 1 pin!

Come down Monday at 8:30 and check out some of the ac-tion, and watch some of the best bowlers in Southern California struggle in ways you haven’t seen before.
