What do the directions on the back of a shampoo bottle have to do with following Jesus?

This discipleship retreat will invite you into a refreshing encounter with the call of Jesus. This is not just a call to fishermen and tax collectors. It’s a call for us today. Gather in community and be renewed through worship, learning, reflection and discussion. Take a break from the frenzy of life and center your spirit on that voice that continues to call you. Be cleansed by the message of love and restoration that is still true for you today.

Presented by Sister Michelle Collins, Director of Communications and Discipleship for the Florida-Bahamas Synod. She is a rostered ELCA Deacon and a member of the ELCA Deaconess Community.

IMPORTANT:

There will be NO H.O.P.E. University classes on October 23rd or October 24th while we celebrate

the Installation of Pastor Rani. Classes will resume as normal on October 30th and 31st.

ANNUAL YARD SALE FOR HOUSE OF HOPE The House of Hope Annual Yard Sale will be held on

Saturday, November 3rd at House of Hope, 4738 NE 49th Blvd., Wildwood, FL. Doors open at 8:00am.

Donations will be accepted October 29th thru November 2nd. Doors open for donation collection at 8:30 a.m. We

will accept household items, housewares, small appliance, collectibles, books, games, knick-knaks/décor, golf clubs and bags, lawn ornaments, children’s toys and games,

Christmas and holiday items; miscellaneous items for grab bags such as small travel soaps, lotions, toothbrush. As in the past, remaining items will be donated to thrift shops,

Mark Twain Library, Webster School and others. Please note: We will not accept clothing, paint, TV’s,

CAREER FAIR FOR WEBSTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL We are looking for volunteers to help present their life stories to the students on Friday, November 9th, from

8:00am to 11:00am. Interested in helping? Come share your careers, hobbies, life interests and gifts of self if you can help with this very worthwhile day in the lives of the

“WALKING 2 B FIT” CLASS TO START AT LAKE WEIR CAMPUS

In November a Walking Fitness class will start at the Lake Weir campus. It will take place on

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8am to 9am.

It will be called “Walking 2 B Fit” (W2BF) and will be patterned after the Walk

Away the Pounds (WATP) class, which takes place at the Central

Campus. It will be an aerobic, low impact, walking class

which will use the same videos used in the WATP class.

The class starts on Friday, November 2nd at 8am.

Lynn Voelkle needs some Elves to assist her with the Silver Angel & Foster Angel Tree Return!

Elves will be needed to check in, verify gifts, organize gifts, sort and pack gifts in trash bags. Plenty of jobs to go

around! Elves will be organized into two shifts on December 10th and 11th: 9:00am-12:00pm and

1:00pm-4:00pm. If you are able to assist Santa this year, please contact Lynn at lvoelkle@centurylink.net. If you are

a new member and signed up to assist as an Elf in this program, Lynn will be contacting you directly.

Joy of Giving Weekend

November 10th & 11th

Angel Trees are returning for this year’s Joy of Giving Weekend!

The Traditional Angel Tree will hold approximately 150 angels for foster kids in the tri-county area.

The Senior Silver Tree will hold approximately 100 angels for seniors from Lady Lake Specialty Care who are on Medicaid Long Term Care.

Gifts for the Men at House of Hope will be also be collected. House of Hope is asking for unwrapped black dress socks and white crew socks, as well as Walmart gift cards and Men’s toiletries.

In addition, Hope will be creating about 30 goody baskets for our congregation shut-ins. Gifts will be delivered by our pastors during home visits.

Cantata tickets will be available during this weekend, and Mission Outreach will host a table with information.

Gifts will be returned to Hope on December 8th and 9th. The Angel Tree project is coordinated by the On Our Own ministry team, led by Lynn Voelkle.

Did you know that Hope has a Blessing Bag Ministry for the Homeless? This ministry provides Ziploc bags featuring toiletries, feminine products, snack items,

hygiene products, McDonald's gift cards and a message of God's love from Hope. Blessing Bags Ministry is in

The Cantata Choir will once again join the Voices of Hope for our annual Cantata presentation over the weekend of

This year, our title will be “Holding on to Christmas”.

Holding on to Christmas is a wonderful celebration of all we hold dear at this most special time of year; a nostalgic, emotion-filled presentation that is sure to stir hearts and

warm souls.

The Work of the Holy Spirit in Faith Formation & Discipleship

THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE CATECHISMS:

In contrast to many different perspectives, Luther emphasizes that it is not we who make ourselves

holy or who perfect ourselves before God, but instead it is the Holy Spirit who brings us to his word

and the sacraments. Through these means, He makes us to be a holy people of God. God provides

structures in creation, various offices such as parenthood, employment, or work in politics.

Through all these and other means God uses us in His ongoing creation. Thereby we become His

instruments of peace in this world.

Snack Pac Donations Needed!

On Our Own is collecting donations for Snack Pacs! Items can be left in the basket marked “Snack Pacs for Kids” in the Narthex Hallway. There is a

pre-packed Snack Pac example available for reference. Don’t have time to shop? You can still help! Simply make out a check to Hope LC and write “Snack Pacs” on the memo line. Place check in offering plate or bring to the church office.

Items Needed:

• Peanut Butter (No Glass)

• Prepared Food in can or plastic container (Small Sizes)

• Crackers stuffed with peanut butter or cheese

• Individual packages of cookies, granola bars, Fruit Roll-Ups, raisins, pudding, applesauce, juice boxes, and Pop-Tarts

• Gallon-Sized Ziplock bags

Faith & Fellowship will gather Mondays at 9:30am to 11:00am Central Campus in the fellowship hall,

or at 2:00pm at Lake Weir campus, beginning October 22nd.

We will grow together in knowledge of the scriptures and have an opportunity to know one another better as the

one body of Christ. Join us for a fresh look at scriptures. Find daily applications to what you hear and read.

Get familiar with the Word of God and see how simple the message can be as intended for our spiritual nourishment.

Jacqueline (Jacque) Merryman

November 17, 1937

to

October 14, 2018

Jacque and her husband, Bill, joined Hope

Lutheran on February 26, 2006. They were

married on June 7, 1958. She and Bill had

moved from The Villages back to

Pennsylvania in April to be closer to their family. A memorial service

is being held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uniontown, PA on

Saturday, October 20 at 11:00 am. Please keep Bill and their family

in your hearts and prayers.

October 14, 2018

Donna and Wendall (Wendy) were married

on May 30, 1958. They joined Hope Lutheran

Church as Associate Members on August 23,

2009. A memorial service for Donna will be

held on Tuesday, October 30 at 10:30am. Please keep Donna’s

family in your prayers during their time of grief.
