From the East

Greetings from the East - And Still the Home of the Travelling Gavel! Welcome to Fall Brothers, the weather should be getting nicer and we will have returning Brothers arriving from their Northern roosts. Venice Lodge will be returning to full Light in October with our first meeting on October 4th. Our Junior Warden will provide a bite to eat before the meeting from 6 -7pm for a donation and our meeting will begin at 730pm. We have 4 new petitioners to vote on, with a potential of 5 new members to go through the Entered Apprentice degree scheduled for November 15th. Congratu-lations to Brother Aaron Rowand for his solo Master Mason give back, he showed great proficiency. Brother Aaron has also volunteered to provide us with new Ma-sonic education in Lodge. Our Family Dinner is prepared by Gena Rowand, yes Aaron ’s wife. Masonic Life seems to run in the family for the Rowands. Their son is a Senior DeMolay and one of our petitioners for the 3 degrees in Masonry. The Family dinner will be on October 18th, please come out and support our hard working members and their families I would like to congratulate our JW Tim Ferdon for receiving his Blue card and also our SW Justin Broome for receiving his Gold card. Thank you to R:.W:. Douglas Dobbs for coming to Venice and making the presentation, these Brothers deserve a Big CONGRATULATIONS for their hard work and dedication to our great Fraternity. Some other October events include a Master Mason degree Oct 15th, held at Englewood Lodge at 6:30pm. This will be a all outdoor degree with several mem-bers of Venice Lodge assisting in the degree work. October 9th will be the Com-mandry degrees held in Tampa. October 20th will be Masonic Leadership Training session 3 for modules 11-15 located at Phoenix Lodge beginning at 6:30 pm. Octo-ber 28th will be the Master Mason Association meeting also located at Phoenix Lodge. I hope to see everyone at this Months activities. Fraternally, Darren Bracken W:.M:.

Greetings brethren!

I would like to wish you all a happy Halloween and good health this

coming month. As we get back into the swing of the year we are back to two

stated meetings a month now. As always our family dinner will be on the third

Monday prior to the stated communication. We will have food at the first

meeting also, so please come out and join us in some good food and good fel-

lowship.

We currently have 5 petitions following their usual course for new candi-

dates who are looking to receive the three degrees of our craft. That being said

we will be having a Entered Apprentice degree in November.

I would like to congratulate brother Aaron Rowan on his Master Mason

catechism giveback. He did it all by himself and was examined by brother Jun-

ior Warden Tim Ferdon. The craft unanimously accepted his proficiency.

I would also like to personally thank Br. Scott Gardener, W:. Adam Ken-

dall, and Br. Alan Meudt for their hard work on the scholarship fund. I am

proud to say that next year we will be able to give out two scholarships to two

very well deserving students of Venice High School and I’m so proud that we

will be doing this in my year in the East.

Friday Oct. 15th, Englewood lodge will be doing a outdoor Master Ma-

son degree beginning at 6:30 pm. I strongly urge all who can attend to do so!

If you’ve never seen a outdoor degree here’s your chance, for it is truly amaz-

ing.

In closing my brothers I hope you all enjoy your Halloween with family

and friends and remember to get the candy bowl out for the little ones! May

the supreme architect of the universe find you all in his favor. See you all in

lodge!

Fraternally,

Justin Broome, Senior Warden

From the South

Brethren & Ladies:

It is very important that everyone planning on attending our family dinners make reservations so we can ensure sufficient

meals will be available for all who attend.

Greetings Brethren,

September was a great month for Masonry in our district. Our entire

district has done a great job of getting together, teaming up and putting on

outstanding degrees to get our new brothers raised in both Punta Gorda

and Sarasota. I’m very much looking forward to working with the leader-

ship teams of all of the lodges in the district over the next couple of years

and planning events that will get everyone together.

This month we are back to business as usual with two meetings and

we will be practicing for the EA Degree we will be putting on next month.

The family dinner this month will be homemade lasagna with garlic

toast made by our very own Chef Gena with help from some members of

our DeMolay chapter.

The charity of the month will be Backpack Angels. They are a local

charity that provide hygiene products to the homeless as well as to needy

children.

If you plan to attend the family dinner please RSVP to myself at:

[email protected].

Fraternally.

Tim Ferdon, Junior Warden

Cable Tow

How Long is Your

Masonic Cable Tow Rope?

The Cable Tow is part of the dress of a candidate in which he agrees

to go to the aid of a Brother with all his power..."if it be within the

length of his tow rope.

The length of rope is symbolic of the first brother's abilities.

It is defined also as a cable's length, which is symbolically measured as

3 miles for an Entered Apprentice.

With its 2 ends, it binds a Mason to the Fraternity as well as bonds the

Fraternity to the Mason.

Masonic News & Events

Early in our nation's history, when illiteracy was the norm and the people were mostly agrarian laborers, there were no public institu-tions dedicated to improving the education of people and providing a solid future for coming generations. Freemasonry led the way during those ages in developing a competent working class capable of inde-pendent thought and action. Masons of previous generations worked tirelessly to establish new schools, and to enhance public knowledge and educational opportunities. One such example is Brother Benja-min Franklin and the University of Pennsylvania.

We, as Masons, elect to assist those engaged in this process of attaining knowledge to make a significant impact on future generations. We do this by supporting public education and cham-pioning the cause of our public school systems. To accomplish these goals in Florida, the Grand Master appoints a Committee on Public Education and Citizenship, which serves to promote and aid students of our public school system. Specifically, the Grand Lodge of Flori-da offers all graduating High School seniors the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship that may be used at any State of Florida supported Institution. Eligibility: All Graduating High School Seniors in the State of Florida who will be attending a STATE OF FLORIDA SUPPORTED INSTITUTION (college, university, community college, tech-nical college, or other such institution of higher education governed by the Florida State Board of Regents or the Florida Department of Education) during the following term (semester or quarter). The applicant must enter the school within one semester/quarter (excluding summer sessions) after having been awarded the scholarship. Requirement: An essay of no less than 1,000 words or more than 1,250 words on the topic “Why Education is Important” and a completed Scholarship Application form. All work must be original and the essay becomes the property of The Grand Lodge of Florida. Deadline: January 20, 2021, is the deadline for submission. The application and essay must be received by the State Chairman no later than midnight on January 20, 2021. Any applications and es-says received after that date will be returned. If you would like to participate, please download detailed information and all required forms below. Any questions concerning this scholarship award opportunity must be directed to the Grand Lodge of Florida.
