NSMTA The SCORE October 2021 www.nsmta.org Page 1 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Friends and Colleagues, Over the last few months, I’ve been digging through the NSMTA hand- me down crates of records that our treasurers have had for, well, apparently nearly 24 years! At the time I was given these crates I did my best to hand these behemoths off to Joni, but she wisely refused to take them. As I’ve looked through the many folders of records, I thought it was rather amusing to see familiar names pop up in letters, notes, checks, and in accounts that no longer exist. It’s yet again another reminder of how much concern and care our members have put into making our chapter be the best it can be over the decades. This month’s meeting will be abit unusual in that we had a speaker (Bonnie Anderson) set for the Monday October 25 th meeting, but she had health concerns about traveling with the rise of Covid cases and decided to offer a remote presentation instead. Heidi wanted to have a live presentation and asked me if I would fill in for this month’s program. I agreed to present this month’s program, but I am concerned about the impropriety of a chapter president also presenting a meeting for the very chapter they’re president of, so I will donate the fee I’d be receiving for the presentation to the Bruce Berr and Betty Benton scholarship funds. They are wonderful awards in honor of two cherished members and I’m happy to support them. The program will be on reading a lead sheet. I will be covering how to group chords, create a bass line, create fills, play with different styles, create appropriate voicings and how to reharmonize from a simple to a very sophisticated result. It’s a lot of information and I’ll cover as much of this subject as I can. Again, we will be offering a remote option along with our in-person meeting. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
