To read the full interview, please Aubrey joined MIC in 2014 as a Suzuki piano teacher. You’re currently working towards becoming a Suzuki Piano Teacher Trainer. What would you like to share about this experience? I’ve been taking Suzuki Piano Teacher Trainer courses in Mexico and Peru during the past few years. I'm bilingual, and it is a good challenge for me to take courses and teach in Spanish. I've been trying to do my training mostly with Caroline Fraser, who lives in Peru. There are parts of Mexico and Peru that have very little access to quality music education, so the teachers travel to festivals to educate themselves. In fact, I'm currently fundraising to get back to Peru this January to teach at their festival. I'm impressed with their tenacity and love being a part of that community. It has been really moving to encounter people from so many different countries who share many of the same values that I hold dear as a musician and a Suzuki teacher. It is comforting, and I love being able to share music with people from so many remote places. Suzuki Sunday The next Suzuki Sunday will take place on November 11, 2018 in Thoresen Performance Center at the Winnetka campus, 300 Green Bay Rd. Possible Music and Friendship Tour to France We are very excited to announce that we are exploring the possibility of a Spring Break Suzuki Friendship tour to France!

    mailto:[email protected]:[email protected]

  • This Music and Friendship Tour is earmarked for this coming Spring Break (2019), from Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 31, 2019. The first step is gauging interest. From there, we will evaluate whether or not the trip is feasible for 2019. This Friendship Tour would be a continuation of a student exchange with Marie Rossot’s string program in Lyon, France that began in 2016 when we hosted French Suzuki students at MIC. The Spring Break tour would begin with sightseeing in Aix-en-Provence and end with group classes, friendship exchange activities and a celebration concert in Lyon. Priority for joining this adventure would go to students and families who participated in the 2016 portion of the exchange. However, limited spaces would be available for current Suzuki program students (violin, viola, cello and flute) and families on a first-come, first-served basis. Are you interested in a cross-cultural, musical adventure in beautiful France? If so, please 1) Email Sarah Montzka at [email protected] and 2) Plan to attend our informational meeting: France Exchange Trip Information Session Thursday, October 25, 2018, 7:30 - 8:30 PM Thoresen Performance Center, MIC Winnetka Campus Jeffery Thyer from ACFEA Tour Consultations will join us to share the trip itinerary draft and answer questions. ACFEA Tour Consultants specializes in performing arts group tours and coordinates transportation and lodging arrangements for international arts trips. Join us this Thursday to learn more about this exciting possibility!
