As I am writing this report I am reflecting on how quickly the year is passing by.

The car events calendar for the remainder of the year and the upcoming summer

months is certainly crowded, even more so than previous years. If you are a bit

time poor like me it certainly takes some research and planning to decide what

events you really want to go to. Invariably a good event will be missed simply

because you can’t get along to everything.

September’s run was a “Blue Do” in support of Blue September the NZ Prostate

“Blue Do” Run Sunday 24 September.

It felt like a really early start on Sunday 24th as it was the first day of daylight saving, although a little

overcast the day was fine and warm, a pleasant change from the wet weather of late. Seven cars met up in

the Rotorua Bunnings carpark while ten cars met up at The Lakes Tauranga meeting spot joining up later

near the Hamurana springs on the edge of Lake Rotorua. It was great to see everyone in the spirit of the

day, dressed up in blue, even wearing their undies on the outside.

After a short briefing some photos were taken club members and cars were sent off one at a time for a

series of tasks to be completed, scavenger hunt style.

A number of stops were made along the cruise around the lake, compulsory stops were planned with

participants dashing into local businesses and attractions to collect scavenger hunt items. Additional

challenges were offered to earn time credits such as take a selfie with a tourist, person in uniform, the Jean

Batten statue and Prince the giant sheep. With plenty of Rotorua sites seen along the way the scavenger

hunt finished up at VTNZ with a puzzle and check in.

Once checked in everyone headed to Third Place Café, overlooking Lake Rotorua for lunch, prize giving and

several auctions of goods or services provided by business from Rotorua, Tauranga and Katikati. Also

thanks to John for donating a car stereo and speaker set to the auction. A total of $552.00 was raised from

a combination of the auctions, entry donation and a fining session run by Sheriff Vicki.
