FALL RECYLING DRIVE SUMMARY

The TRHS Octagon Club's Fall Electronics drive,

held on Saturday, September 30th was huge

success!! Thank you for your support. The

beautiful weather resulted in an enormous turn out

of donations. Thousands of used electronic items

were kept out of the landfill because of our effort!

A special thank you is extended to my co-advisor

Judy Goodchild, club members Rob Reed, Lisa

Quistorf, Ann & Ed Plansky, Colleen Sheahan and

members of the STEM Punk Robotics Team for

their help at this event.

Submitted Ann Sheahan, TRHS Octagon Co-Advisor

TRHS Octagon Club:

We are off to a great start this year! Approximately 25 students attended our first meeting;

we meet every Tuesday morning at 7:30am in the High School Library. We have two projects

under our belt and several more coming up this fall. On Sept. 16th we monitored the Fox

Community Credit Union parking lot during Ethnic Fest and netted $245.00! WOW!! Not bad

for 4.5 hrs of work. We then held our Electronics Drive on September 30th in the Senior

Center Parking lot. On Sunday, October 1st the group will help out with our Empty Bowls

Event. Upcoming for October are elections, Applefest parking, Spooky Spectacular, and leaf

raking. Please feel free to join us at any of these events and see our youth in action!

Advisors to the Club are Judy Goodchild and Ann Sheahan

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who were able to assist in any way to help make our biggest fundraiser another success. The proceeds from this

fundraiser go right back to the kids in our community through our many events. The weather prematurely ended our efforts on Saturday – but the rest of the weekend was awesome! We have one outstanding bill to pay – but our profits are estimated to be about $9000.00 - $9500.00!! THAT IS AMAZING and truly reflects the team effort needed to coordinate something this large. A special

thanks is extended to my co-chair Judy Goodchild

and to members Rob Reed and Colleen Sheahan for their extra behind the scenes work!

Applefest Parking!!

Need an up close and safe parking

spot at Applefest?? The TRHS

Octagon Club has just the place!

For a mere $5.00 donation, you can

park your car in the Fox Communities

Credit Union Parking Lot. Conveniently store your

apples, crafts and goodies and go back for more!

Proceeds help the TRHS Octagon Club

fund their activities throughout the

year. THANK YOU for your support!!

September’s Night Meeting Tony Yaggie, Governor for the WINUM District, was our guest speaker on September 19th.

Tony enlightened us on the big picture of Optimism and helped us understand how the local

clubs make up Optimist Districts and how we all fall under Optimist International. It was

amazing to hear just how far Optimism reaches around the world! Governor Tony also

shared his goals for the upcoming year and the stressed the importance each club plays in

making the difference in the life of a child. Every member is truly valued! Thank you

Governor Tony for taking the time to meet with us. We look forward to a great year with

your leadership. Submitted by Ann Plansky WINUM Governor

Farewell & THANK YOU!

Hello Fellow Optimist,

This is my final letter as outgoing president. I look

back and I am always amazed at how much our

little ‘ole club does for our community and what

great people we have to make that happen. There

is certainly enough negativity out there right now

we all hear about but we should be pretty happy

about what we do as Optimists and the differences

we make in the lives of kids in Two Rivers and the

surrounding area.

I want to thank the board for a great year. They

really put a lot of time and effort into keeping our

club going in the right direction. A special thank

you goes to Sandy Greene who is stepping down as

club treasurer after four years.

I am very excited about the 2017-18 Optimist year.

Thank you to Deb Prokop who is stepping as our

next president. Deb moved to Two Rivers a few

years ago and has some wonderful fresh ideas and

is full of energy to make it happen. Let’s get

behind her leadership and make it a great year!

Kim Novak is replacing Sandy as our next treasurer.

Kim is fairly new to our club but has been very

active even though she lives in Denmark. Talk

about dedication! Her finance background will be a

huge asset.

Thanks again everyone for

making this past year a

special one for our club. Give

yourself a pat on the back

and then ask yourself: “What

can I do this year to help

make a difference in the lives

of the kids in Two Rivers?” I

ask you to think about why you got involved in

Optimism and then chase that reason.

Kelly
