Eric Burton and K-9 Bo and Officer John Heald and K-9 Beyer all successfully completed their annual TSA canine re-certification trials. The RSW K-9 teams work very hard to keep our airports safe and we are proud their pass rate is better than the national average. ¾ Southwest Florida International Airport launched the RSW Rewards Frequent Parker Program on Oct. 13. This program is designed to make on-airport parking the most convenient and cost-effective option for travelers and reward loyal, frequent parkers who use the long- or short-term parking lots at RSW. The RSW Rewards Frequent Parker Program is fully automated and points, which are earned whenever a customer parks at Southwest Florida International Airport, can be redeemed for free parking. This is just another amenity LCPA provides to enhance the customer experience at our airport. ¾ Nearly 4,700 people attended the Lee County Port Authority's annual Aviation Day on Oct. 29. Our local charity partner, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, received 2,200 pounds of food and $1,487 in cash donations, which enabled them to provide more than $11,000 of food to benefit our local citizens. ¾ JetBlue added a third daily nonstop flight to Newark-Liberty (EWR) on Oct. 31. November 2016 ¾ Spirit inaugurated daily nonstop service to Baltimore/Washington (BWI) on Nov. 10 and weekly nonstop service to Akron/Canton (CAK) on Nov. 11.

¾ RewardExpert released its Thanksgiving Holiday Air Travel Forecast for 2016, highlighting the on-time performance of the 45 busiest airports around the holiday in the United States. The forecast used data from the Department of Transportation from 2011 to 2015, rating airports on the worst and best overall performance on Thanksgiving and the five days leading up to and following the holiday. RSW, with an 85.4 percent on-time performance, ranked #7 for the Best On-Time Airport!

¾ RSW will have nearly 1,000 daily seats in our Canadian markets for the peak winter season, which will be a 12 percent increase compared to last year. In 2016, Canadian carriers at RSW experienced a 14 percent increase in passenger traffic!

December 2016

¾ Delta Air Lines announced new year-round service to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) on Saturdays and Sundays beginning Feb. 18, 2017.

¾ Ed Fink was named the 2016 Page Field Aviation Ambassador of the Year. This award recognizes an outstanding individual involved at Page Field who has a strong background in aviation, advocates aviation awareness and has made a positive impact on aviation in our community. Fink has spent more than two decades at Page Field as an independent flight and ground school instructor. In addition, he serves with the Sundown Patrol and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

¾ J.D. Power named Southwest Florida International Airport the third best medium-hub airport in North America for passenger satisfaction in 2016. The North American Airport Satisfaction Study measures what travelers say about terminal facilities, airport accessibility, security checkpoints, baggage claim, check-in/baggage check and terminal food, beverage and retail. This achievement marks the second year in a row Southwest Florida International Airport has been ranked as a top airport from J.D. Power.

¾ Jeff Mulder, A.A.E., is the new executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. Jeff comes to LCPA with a 28-year career in airport operations, marketing, development and administration. For the past 11 years, he served as the director of airports in Tulsa, Okla., which encompasses a three-airport system. From 2009 to 2013, he also served as the director of transportation for the City of Tulsa. Prior to that, he worked at airports in Appleton, Wis., Evansville, Ind., Milwaukee and New Orleans.

Jeff has a master’s degree in business administration from Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wis., and a Bachelor of Science in aviation technology and operations from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. He is an accredited airport executive, recently served as the national chair for the American Association of Airport Executives and was named the 2016 Airport Director of the Year by Airport Revenue News. Jeff also holds a commercial pilot license and is a certified flight instructor.

FMY Statistics

¾ In 2016, the Page Field Air Traffic Control Tower handled 108,727 aircraft operations, an increase of 12 percent compared to 2015. This is the first time since 1993 the airport has exceeded 100,000 operations and it marks the busiest year since 1990. This outstanding performance makes Page Field one of the top 50 busiest airports for general aviation and it ranks FMY 24th in the U.S. for air operations out of 253 contract tower airports.

¾ December 2016 was the best December in the 34-year history of the airport and our performance for the year exceeded all expectations to be a historic best with 8,604,673 passengers. International traffic growth had a positive impact on our annual passenger numbers with an overall increase of 15.3 percent compared to 2015.
