I challenged you to help me start a fund for this area of the churchs life, I called the Childrens Ministries Dream Fund.Your response to this showed evidence of deep love for children. You gave around $10,000 to establish this fund in our church. Since that me, the Staff Parish Relaons Commiee in tandem with the Church Council approved a job descripon, interviewed candidates, and offered a leadership posion to Mrs. Amy Horne. Amys work will help us reach our goal of seeing vital ministry renewal among our children and their families. She will need all our connued prayers (which I'm so thankful for), and our connued support. She will need volunteers, ideas, connued financial support, and lots of encouragement. She has set the date of October 16 for the first session of Childrens Church”. This will be our first new ministry to meet the needs of young children through about fiſth grade. They will be dismissed from the sanctuary during our10:30 worship, right aſter Childrens Time, to go upstairs to enjoy some fun acvies, learning, and age-appropriate worship of their own. Start inving children you know to come take part in this excing new ministry. And through November 13 we will connue to offer Kids for Christ during the Sunday Evening 6-8 me period with Bronwyn Owen and Amy Horne. Trunk or Treat will be Sunday Oct 30 at 4 p.m. under the Farmers Market shed. Lots of fun things are coming. We commit these things to the Lord. May God smile upon us as we reach children with Gods Word and as they grow in Gods love and grace. Also, Jim and Ruth Brewster for videoing the concert/ reception for our history of the church. Anyone who would like a copy, please let the church office know. Mr. Bailey graciously gave his talents and was willing to give a memorial to the Organ Fund in memory of Bea Richardson, former organist and choir director. Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish you.” Back in June, on Father’s Day I spent the sermon time talking about the need to strengthen Children’s Ministries in this congregation. I challenged you to help me start a fund for this area of the church’s life, I called the “Children’s Ministries Dream Fund.” Your response to this showed evidence of deep love for children. You gave around $10,000 to establish this fund in our church. Since that time, the Staff Parish Relations Committee in tandem with the Church Council approved a job description, interviewed candidates, and offered a leadership position to Mrs. Amy Horne. Amy’s work will help us reach our goal of seeing vital ministry renewal among our children and their families. The United Methodist Men are sponsoring a MISSION PROJECT FOR BLUEFIELD UNION MISSION. The men are collecting food each month at their breakfast meeting. The Mission is in need of canned meat (tuna, spam, ham, etc.), canned fruit (peaches and apple sauce). If you would like to donate, please bring your food to the church office.

NEW MINISTRY COMING TO NURSING HOME AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES IN TAZEWELL DISTRICT CHURCHES. This is an outreach of the Elk Garden School Community Ministries. Rev. Mary Chapiewski will be visiting nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the district. This new ministry will provide supplemental visitation to folks from your churches. It will also include support to facilities by offering Bible study or prayer meetings if desired. The are calling on churches to help. They are in need of the following items to put together care package to be left with each resident that Mary visits and to each resident during the holidays. They also need financial assistance to purchase items. Donations can be made to Tazewell District UMC with a notation to GEMS on the memo line. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD On October 15 we are doing an event from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia in the Executive Ballroom. Parking is free. Alex Nsengimana from Operation Christmas Child will be speaking. There will be giveaways, resources, and Go boxes. Come out and get the scoop! Operation Christmas Child was created in 1990 by Dave Cooke and his wife, Gill, for children in Romania. Each November thousands of churches, groups and individual donors prepare and collect shoeboxes. As of April 2015, more than 124 million boxes have been delivered. Information for packing a shoebox has been placed at each entrance to the church. Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. There will be 2 trips to the Processing Center in Charlotte, NC : November 29 leaves at 12:30 p.m. (21 slots) December 5 leaves at 6:30 a.m. (21 slots) Sign up sheets have been placed on the bulletin board outside the office. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.
