From the Desk of Fr. Nazari. Dear brothers and sisters!
Once again I’m taking an opportunity of speaking with you
through our Parish bulletin.
First and foremost I want to greet you with the Feast of
Nativity of All Holy Theotokos and Universal Exaltation of
Holy and Life-Creating cross that we celebrated in Septem-
ber, and the upcoming Feast of Protection of the All Holy
Theotokos that we will celebrate in October.
As I mentioned in the last Parish bulletin that with the
blessing of the Most Reverend Benjamin, Archbishop of San
Francisco and the West, our Parish will be hosting the gen-
eral Diocesan Assembly on October 11th-13
th. At the same
time we will be blessed with the visit of the wonderworking
copy of the icon of the Mother of God “Abbess of the Mount
Athos” from October 12th till 24
th (please see the attached an-
nouncement). This is a unique opportunity for all Christians in
the city of Los Angeles and its area to pray before wonder-
working icon and ask for intercession of our All Holy Virgin.
Please bring your family and friends as the opportunity for
such a blessing does not present itself often.
As most of you know that on September 11th, 2016 we had
our semi-annual Parish meeting dedicated to the issue of fi-
nancial stability and further development of our parish. I
thank you for your attendance and interest in the life of our
community and for those who could not attend, we have at-
tached graphical charts showing our current financial situa-
tion.
As I mentioned during my opening remarks through recent
months - glory be to God - we are experiencing increase of
parishioners’ participation in Divine services. Our member-
ship is slowly growing. We are introducing new programs,
activities, events and of course liturgical services which are
the oxygen for any parish community.
After reporting on this good news, we showed you, our
parishioners, that we are growing in quantity and quality and
we want to be here for the future generations. And all of this
is in our hands. The Apostle St. Peter said to the Lord “Lord,
we left everything and we followed you”.
Dear brothers and sisters, our parish is in real need of your
help. Let us all also follow the Lord and offer our hearts to
Him. If each of us is able to financially contribute on the
regular basis to the point that we can have a balanced budget
our historical cathedral will continue to share the gospel of
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for generations to come.
Dear parishioners! I want to finish this message on a very
light note and share a joke with you: “A Pastor found himself
in a similar situation to mine: church was in a deficit, lots of
things fell into disrepair, so general parish meeting was as-
sembled. The Pastor came before the people and said: “ Dear
brothers and sisters, we all know that a large sum of money is
needed to put our Parish back in a shape and in regards to
that situation I have 2 items of news for you: One is good
news and the other is bad news”. The congregation said:
“Start with the good news.” The priest looked at them and
said: “The good news is that we have all that money.” The
congregation started applauding and cheering him. Finally
someone asked: “What is the bad news?” Father looked at
congregation and said: “ The bad news is that all that money
is still in your pockets !”
Dear parishioners, as I said before many good things are
happening. In one short year we have launched a new parish
website with the same domain: www.hvmla.org. Also we are
getting new and fixing our old liturgical hardware and fur-
nishing, we are introducing youth programs and activities, we
organize spiritual and cultural events, so please open your
hearts and help OUR PARISH to live and work for years to
come. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I ask you
to include the lists of your family members both living and
deceased with your contributions so we continue to pray for
our parishioners and keep alive memory of those who built,
decorated and supported this parish for almost 100 years.
May God Bless you!
Archpriest Nazari Polataiko.

Sisterhood News.
We want to thank and let people know how much we appre-
ciate everyone who is supporting the Sisterhood luncheons.
They are the way we augment our treasury.
At the last meeting, the Sisterhood voted to increase our
donation to the Cathedral to $700.00 a month.
We are in the process of having a cabinet built in the rear
part of the kitchen for storage and to house a new refrigerator
and freezer which will be purchased soon. A section of the
terrazzo floor in the kitchen was repaired. Also some white
vestments we sent out to the cleaners.
At the present time we are planning and preparing to help
the Church host the Diocesan Assembly in October. If you
can volunteer a few hours to help during the Assembly, please
let me know so we can schedule your time to work. We value
all of you who help the Sisterhood.

ing, for reservation please call Church Office. We accept all
major credit cards.
Kiosk-Bookstore
The Kiosk is having a CLEARANCE SALE, and I see that
several of you have already availed yourselves of the marked
down prices. Books on the interior life never go "out of
style". We simply have books containing much spiritual
nourishment that have not sold in a while, and we need to
move them out so we can refresh our stock. The reality is
that some book publishers are selling down their stock with
60-70% markdowns. We cannot compete with Amazon and
other large volume distributors. However, we are still one of
the largest all-Orthodox stores on the West Coast, and blessed
to have it here on our church property. Please do come and
support us in this endeavor. We are able to take all major
credit cards, as well as old fashioned cash and checks!
Sister Elizabeth and our ever-faithful volunteer crew.
Dear Father Nazari and Parishioners,
Thank you everyone for the lovely surprise of prayers, good
wishes and remembrances for my birthday. It was all so un-
expected, and you really caught me off guard! May God re-
ward you all for your many kindness to me as only He can.
My love and prayers to all.

Classes will meet in November on 11/13 and 11/20. Sunday

gy, so that both children and teachers can get a bite to eat be-
fore class. Classes are generally an hour in length, and stu-
dents may enroll at any time during the school year.
Thank you to Fr. Nazari for his indispensable help, and to
all parishioners for their support and prayers.
