Hej!

They say home is where the heart is, and for many the heart of the home is the kitchen where food is prepared and where the buzz happens before any gathering in the home starts.

This issue, we introduce the new IKEA METOD kitchen, a brand new range of kitchens for the first time in 10 years, with new door fronts, drawer in drawer combinations (page 8). Together with the easy kitchens tips you may find useful (page 14).

We also let you in on behind the scenes of the IKEA products you meet in the store (page 16) as well as sharing a little bit of inspiration on dressing up a part of your home you may usually ignore (page 18).

We hope you’ll enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed creating it for you!

New base cabinet heightsNew cabinet looks

Cabinet are available in heights of 80cm - which create more space - and 60cm, which lower the worktop height or can be combined with our new 28cm legs. (Budgie not included.)

With improved, smooth finishes, METOD cabinets can also be used without cover panels. There are also cover caps to hide the pre-drilled holes.

Lower plinthsOur standard plinth is lowered from 16cm to 8cm, opening up more storage space in base cabinets.

So what’s new?

Building block logic

Stronger styles

METOD cabinets use simple, even 20 centimetre increments for width and height, a modularity that makes it easier to plan and customise your kitchen.

With drawer heights as small as 10cm and door fronts as tall as 200cm, you can make your kitchen look as traditional or as modern as you like.

Your Building BlocksThe key to METOD is a revolutionary set of measurements - a breakthrough that led to a new range of sizes and a world of endless possibilities. Here are the building blocks. Put them together anyway you like.

Cabinets in widths of 20, 40, 60 and 80cm.

Base cabinets come in heights of 60cm and 80cm.

Drawers come in heights of 10, 20 and 40cm.

Wall cabinets, base cabinets and counter tops can be combined to create solitaire storage units. You can even put them on our 28cm legs.

TUTEMO coloured inserts not only add a splash of colour, they’re also great for cookbooks and showing things off.

Base and high cabinets come in depths of 37 and 60cmto squeeze the most storage out of the space available.

Cabinets come in two colours: white and black-brown.No more white frames peeking out between your dark doors and fronts!Wall cabinets come

in heights from 40cm to 100cm.

The new METOD kitchensWelcome to METOD - the new IKEA kitchen system. When we say new, we mean completely new. The frames, doors, the hinges, the drawers - everything! Helpful Kitchen tips perhaps you

never knew Small improvements can make big changes and save loads of time. Here are some of our favourite tips.

Preparing your dishesKeep your bread warm for a longer time by wrapping tea towel around it.

• Instead of splurging on a fancy cheese board, opt for a wooden chopping board for that rustic look instead to serve your cheeses.

• Soak bitter greens like arugula in ice water and leave it in the fridge for about an hour to reduce their bitterness. Run the leaves through a salad spinner a couple of times with a paper towel to get them nice and crisp.

CookingIf you find you need more oil in the pan when sautéing or light frying, add the oil in a stream along the edges of the pan so that by the time it reaches the centre of the pan, it will be heated.

Rather than mincing garlic before sautéing it, slice it instead. It is less likely to burn that way.

Keep your knives sharp by placing it on a magnetic strip rather than a knife board. The magnetic strip can also double up as a spice rack to keep your spices.

Cleaning up Reduce your stovetop cleaning by 80 - 85% by using a splatter screen while frying or cooking your sauces. Using a splatter screen also helps to keep the condensation out and the nasty splatters in.

Clean as you go, it saves time and you can fully relax and enjoy time after the meal.

Cut your rinsing time by half by using a stackable rinsing basket and bowl. It allows you to soak your grimy dishes and drain the water quickly once you are done.

Making thingsbetter with Democratic DesignThe democratisation of design is an on-going and never-ending process where at IKEA we constantly strive to make things better.

Here, we invite you in to the heart of IKEA and share what’s happening behind the scenes.

Democratic Design is an idea with five dimensions – but with endless possibilities for making life at home better.

Quality is not only about how durable each thing is or 10 year guarantees, but about how much better things become if home stands the wear and tear of everyday.

Sustainability is not only about producing each thing in a way that is good for the planet, but about how we help life at home become a way to make things better for the planet.

Low price is not only about the price of each thing, but about affording to make things better.

Function is not only about how good each thing works, but about how much better they make things work at home.

Quality - Making everything last longer and age gracefully

Sustainability - Taking responsibility to have an improving impact on people and the planet

Low price - Making it truly affordable for the many

Function - Making everyday life easier and more meaningful

Defrost the IKEA meatballs in a microwave friendly bowl. 2 1/2 minutes is about right but make sure they are thoroughly defrosted. Then, cut the meatballs into halves. If using veggie balls, leave them whole.

Chop the carrot and pepper into long thin strips and half them. Then, slice the mushrooms.

Chop the half onion and the green shoots of the spring onions, making sure you discard the ends.

Put the udon noodles in a pan and bring to the boil. Simmer for two minutes and take off the heat.

Pour the oil into the wok and place on a high heat.

When the oil is hot, fry the red onion, carrot and meatballs first for around two minutes or until they start to get some light colour.

Add in the mushrooms and peppers and stir fry for a further two minutes.

Drain and add in the noodles, make sure you keep stirring to avoid sticking to the pan.

After another minute or so when you are happy the meal is cooked through, add in around three to four tablespoons of soy sauce according to taste and keep stirring.

Divide the dish equally between two bowls and sprinkle the raw chopped spring onions on top. Serve and enjoy your very own home made meal!
