President Dr. Bill Holda

Preaching the GospelThis morning, the first day of October, I

participated in the creation of a video that can be posted on the web and serve as an appeal for our third Annual Campaign for Excellence. Some of the script included these points:

-The Kilgore College legacy is 80 years strong

• KC is committed to excellence. While we have a strong legacy and great history, we are looking to the future and meeting the needs of tomorrow’s students.

• We want to build on what we have, but recognize that everything comes with a price tag.

• Looking ahead, there are a number of opportunities for growth in programs, with the right facilities, faculty and equipment - we are seeking partners who share our vision and want to be a part of the continued legacy of Kilgore College.

- The time to give is today• More and more students are reliant on some form of financial aid.• Today’s student cannot rely on family contributions to aid in their higher education.• More than 80% of students receive financial assistance through grants or scholarships.• College would simply not be possible for many of these students if not for donors providing funds for scholarships.

- Every dollar is important• State funding to KC has declined to approximately 26% of our overall operating budget.• This is a small fraction of funding needed to move Kilgore College into the future.• 84% of donors give $500 or less. Every gift is valued and important to the sustainability of KC.

- NOW is the time• We want to preserve the legacy that the founders of Kilgore College envisioned more than 80 years ago.• We want to be here to continue to prepare the leaders of tomorrow for their future.• The legacy will continue, but only with your help!

And so, I think it was Francis of Assisi to whom this phrase is attributed: “Preach the Gospel. Use words when necessary.” If we as a community of educators, together with our elected Board and our Foundation Board set the example, it will greatly help us out in the community as I try to connect our needs with individuals who want to invest in Kilgore College. By setting the example, we preach the Gospel, letting everyone know we believe in what we do and the tremendous worth of Kilgore College! I urge, encourage, and plea with you

to be an active participant, regardless of the level. Thanks for considering this!

of seven will not be admitted. Late arrivals will also not be admitted.

The box office will open one hour prior to each performance.

For reservations, e -mail the KC Theatre Box Office at [email protected] or call 903-983 -8126.

Reserved tickets may be picked up at the box office beginning one hour before curtain the day of each performance.

The play is directed by Micah Goodding, theatre instructor, and is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

About the play:Acclaimed as a modern dramatic masterpiece, “Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead” is the fabulously inventive tale of Hamlet as told from the worm’s eye view of the bewildered Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters in Shakespeare’s play. In Tom Stoppard’s best-known work, this Shakespearean Laurel and Hardy finally get a chance to take the lead role, but do so in a world where echoes of Waiting for Godot resound, where reality and illusion intermix, and where fate leads our two heroes to a tragic but inevitable end.

“This is a most remarkable play. Very funny. Very brilliant. Very chilling.”–The New York Times
