Mrs. Castro, our librarian, introduced Mrs. Gonzalez, who brought her friend Andy the Armadillo. Mrs. Gonzalez is the coowner of Texas Roadhouse. Everyone had plenty of fun, and got to hang out with Andy. Her presentation was about encouraging kids to read. She taught us a chant to help us remember what kind of books we should be reading. At the end of her presentation, students were allowed to dance with Andy the Armadillo. In our interview with Mrs. Gonzalez, we asked her what inspired her conduct presentations, she answered, “I would do anything to encourage education.” The best part of her job is being able to meet new people. She moved from Schertz, Texas to Laredo, Texas, so her husband could open a Texas Roadhouse. We also asked her what her favorite book is; she said her favorite nonfiction book would be The Bible, and her favorite fiction book is The Chosen by Chaim Potok. Her thoughts on our school are she thinks everyone was very well behaved, we participated well, we were polite, and very engaged. She said we were “Way the funnest school!” She believes that her presentations motivate us to read. Meet the Members This year, the presidential debates for student

council were held on Monday, September 16. The students

debated on being student council president, and it was

between David Lopez, Jesmel Ortiz, and Giancarlo Guerra,

all 8th grade students. All candidates had different ideas for

our school. The elections for student council were held on

Friday, September 20. David Lopez was elected as our new

Student Council President.

In an interview, David Lopez said “It feels nice to be

Student Council President because I want to do nice things

for the school like fundraisers.” When asked why he wanted

to run for Student Council President, he stated that he

wanted to be remembered for doing great things for this

school since this is his last year. He mentioned that he wants

for all the students that voted for him to be part of the

fundraisers and to make a difference in this school. He says

that he will change the school to make it fun for all the

students.

The Christmas Program Is On

The Christmas program is right around the corner.

All the teachers are collaborating together to make it a big

success. The theme of this year’s Christmas program is

“Christmas through the Decades.” The teachers chose this

theme because they thought that it would be really nice to

see how they would celebrate Christmas throughout the

decades starting from the 1920’s to the present. Everybody

participating in the Christmas program will practice about

three to four times a week during P.E. The dancers and the

main characters will have rehearsals right before the

Christmas program. The Christmas program is scheduled

for December 14, 2013 at 6:00 pm. It will take place at the

Laredo student activity complex.

The month of October not only brings Halloween, but

it is also the time to pray the rosary. October is considered the

month of the living rosary because St. Dominick saw Mary

while he was praying in October. This month, our school’s

first grade teacher, Ms. Sanchez, set up this amazing event.

When we asked her some questions about the rosary, she said

that it felt great to bring everybody in school together. “It’s a

wonderful, spiritual experience. It feels like God is with us.”

During the rosary, the students presenting the mysteries held

up paintings of Jesus to represent each mystery. Mrs. Adriano

(Pre-K4 A) and Mrs. Lopez (Pre-K4 B) were the teachers who

painted these inspirational, amazing drawings. Another rosary

is scheduled in May to celebrate the May Crowning, and

during the May Crowning we will present roses to the Blessed

Mother. Since the rosary was a huge success, there is

something that Mrs. Sanchez would like to say: “I want to

thank all the students, teachers, and Ms. Santos for

participating in this beautiful ceremony of the Living Rosary.”

Our Legacy Continues:

Meet the New Teachers

This new school year not only brought new

students, but also new faculty. We have new teachers

in Pre-K4, Ms. Lopez, P.E., Ms. Medellin, 3rd grade, Ms.

Guerra, and last but not least Mr. Castro 8th grade. We

asked them questions about their new responsibilities.

Some of the questions asked were: Is this your 1st year

of teaching, what are your favorite subjects, and what

is your favorite part of teaching?

Mrs. Lopez is the new PK-4 teacher and this is

her 2nd year teaching. She previously taught at El Lagos

Elementary. She likes reading and science. Her

inspiration to teach was to work with children. In 7th

grade, she joined a reading camp and from that

moment on she knew she wanted to be a teacher.

Ms. Medellin is the new P.E. teacher and she has

been teaching for 4 years. Before, she stayed home

with her children whom she loves dearly. She loves art,

sports, and she enjoys teaching.

Mrs. Guerra is the third grade teacher. She has

been teaching for 4 years but this is her 1st year at this

school. She loves the students and she says she is

blessed with her third grade class. She used to teach at

Ryan Elementary. She loves all subjects and can’t

choose one as her favorite. She was inspired by her

teacher, and she wants to inspire her students to

follow their dreams.

Ms. Pena is working with 4th grade and this is

her 1st year teaching. She used to live in Argentina

before she came to Laredo. She studied at TAMIU and

was raising her kids before she became employed with

BSS. She believes our school has a very safe

environment. She teaches literature and she likes to

share what she knows.

Mr. Castro is the eighth grade teacher and

this is his first year teaching. He was also a student

from TAMIU. He used to work at JC penny. He wants

to make a difference and that’s what inspired him to

become a teacher. He thinks that this is a very good

school and he is glad to be here. His favorite subjects

are math and science.

Ms. Castro is our new librarian this is year.

She has been a teacher for 15 years, but this is her

first year as a librarian. She enjoys it and she said

it’s a different pace for her and its really rewarding.

She also likes that she gets to see all the children.

Her favorite part of her job is to see the faces of the

children every morning and their love for reading.

She also loves their enthusiasm. What inspired her

was that it was something new, a challenge and she

wanted to make a difference in the children’s life.
