The Wedgewood Rooms Shows

No 28 Activities

The Kings Theatre is always expanding its range of activities and we have recently opened a new workshop space, called ‘No 28’. Situated on Albert Road, next to the stall entrance, No 28 is on the ground floor, with street level access, and provides workshop and exhibition space for the community.

Two workshops will be available this autumn:

The Wedgewood Rooms is a well-established live music venue, playing host to many national and international live acts in the worlds of music and comedy.

The Kings Theatre and The Wedgewood Rooms have successfully teamed up in 2012 to provide Portsmouth with a new entertainment concept, shifting the typical focus on live music of ‘The Wedge’ to live performance, with a staging of Stephen Lowe’s adaption of Robert Tressell’s classic novel ‘The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist’. Having been a resounding success – the show was a few tickets short from being sold-out – Kings Theatre and Wedgewood Rooms have partnered to put on two more shows this Autumn:

This Week:

Monday 21st – Saturday 26th October

2013 7.30pm

Wednesday and Saturday Matinee

2.30pm

Presents Swan Lake

Friday 18th – Saturday 19th October 2013

For those who may need a music history review, Buddy Holly was one of the greatest musician of the 50s, whose legend tragically began when the airplane in which he and fellow stars Ritchie Valens and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were travelling crashed on the shores of Clear Lake, Iowa. Buddy Holly has been defined as one of the most influential musicians of all time, main influence of artists such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Don McLean.

The show, defined as the “world’s most successful rock ’n roll musical”, will be on stage from the 21st to the 26th of October, featuring some hours of the greatest songs ever written, including That’ll Be The Day, Oh Boy, Rave On, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, Johnny B. Goode, Raining In My Heart, Everyday, Shout and many more, this show is just Peggy Sue-perb!

One of the highlights of our autumn schedule, Rave On Ltd’s ‘The Buddy Holly Story’ will finally make its debut at the Kings Theatre. This award-winning show, viewed by more than 20 million people in over 20,000 performances worldwide, opened in London’s West End back in 1989 and has been seen in Broadway, UK, Japan, Canada, Singapore, New Zealand, Germany and South Africa, winning a plethora of awards along the way.

Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - Sunday 27th October 2013, 7:30pm

Sunday 10th November 2013, 7:30pm - We Will Be Free: The Tolpuddle Martyrs

Presented by Brother Wolf, award-winning actor/writer James Hyland returns to Southsea with ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’. Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "bogey tale" is brought chillingly to life in this ground-breaking one-man show.

Towns End Productions presents ‘We Will Be Free’, a new drama set in 1834 about the Tolpuddle Martyrs that follows the extraordinary true story of George and Betsy Loveless, told through Andy Vine's powerful political cartoons and animation; through puppetry and the exquisite musical arrangements by folk singer player John Kirkpatrick.

Don’t forget: both of these two shows are discounted for Kings Card Holders!
