It is a good time to share with your councils the “In support of a Culture of Life” resolution passed unanimously on Aug. 9, by del- egates to the 130th Annual Supreme Council Meeting in Anaheim, CA. The text follows: w Whereas, the Knights of Columbus has a deep and historic commitment to oppose any govern- mental action or policy that promotes abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning, eu- thanasia, assisted suicide, and other offenses against life and that we continue to speak out to our elected representatives about the need to enact legislation to oppose these practices and to protect human life in all its stages; and w Whereas,the Order supports programs that pro- vide women facing crisis pregnancies with alterna- tives to abortion, including adoption, and that we support projects that provide spiritual support to those women suffering from the traumatic emo- tional and psychological aftereffects of abortion; and w Whereas, we reaffirm our commitment to building a “culture of life” by promoting policies that favor the family, and by recognizing that it is within strong and healthy families that moral values are taught and that the spiritual heritage of the nation is transmitted; w Now therefore be it resolved, that we call for the adoption of laws that recognize and protect in law the right of conscience for doctors, nurses, phar- macists and other medical personnel, guarantee- ing that they may not be forced to provide medical services which violate their religious beliefs, and we insist on similar protection for Catholic hospi- tals; and w Further resolved, that the Knights of Columbus will continue to uphold the traditional teaching of the Church concerning the death penalty as explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and by the late Pope John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae; and w Further resolved, that we reaffirm our long-stand- ing policy of not inviting to any Knights of Colum- bus event, persons, especially public officials or candidates for public office, who do not support the legal protection of unborn children, or who advocate the legalization of assisted suicide or euthanasia, and of prohibiting such persons from renting or otherwise using facilities over which we have control, or speaking at Knights of Columbus events, or bestowing on them honors or privileges of our Order of any kind, or inviting them to serve as honorary chairpersons of events, celebrations, or committees, or to hold any office in the Knights of Columbus; and w Further resolved, that we once again commit our- selves to praying the rosary frequently, to fasting and to doing penance in reparation for the evils perpetrated against the gift of life and that we seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who herself said “yes” to life, to intercede on our behalf for the establishment of a “culture of life.” Semi-Annual Audit Remind your councils that the Semi-Annual Council Audit (#1295 -1) covering the period from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2012, is due to be filed with the Supreme Office by Feb. 15, 2013. sible for making certain that the accounts of thecouncils in his district are kept in accordance with thelaws of the Order. Schedule appointments to inspectthe books, vouchers and accounts of each council inyour district. Report your findings for the period ofJuly 1-Dec. 30, 2012, on the District Deputy Semi-Annual Report on Council Status (#944A) for eachcouncil in your district. The report is to be submittedto the Supreme Office by Dec. 31, 2012.

Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest

Urge your councils to take part in the Knights ofColumbus Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest. Thisyear the theme is: “The Importance of Religious Lib-erty.”The essay contest is open to all Catholic students

from 8th through12th grade in public, private,parochial or home schools. Participants are asked towrite an essay of 500 to 700 words. In August and September councils should contact

schools seeking their cooperation with the contest. A

suggested timetable may be found at kofc.org/essay.Check with your state council for deadlines in yourarea. Also essay kits should be ordered. The form, EA-

Ordering Supplies

A district deputy wishing to order supplies shoulddo so through the financial secretary of his council orthrough the state council. The order must be placedusing a Requisition Form (#1) which must be signedby the grand knight of financial secretary of yourcouncil. To charge supply orders to a state councilaccount the district deputy must have the prior ap-proval of the state deputy.All orders will be charged for shipping costs even if

they contain no charge items. Videos/DVDs can beobtained by contacting the Department of FraternalServices. There is a shipping and handling chargeassociated with videos/DVDs.Please order materials at least one month prior to

the required delivery date.
