As the temperatures are beginning to drop and the leaves are beginning to change, a lot is changing around this commu-nity—and the chamber is no different. Three members of the Board of Directors, Klint Sickler (Dakota Community Insurance), Terry Kovacevich (Marathon Oil), and Elaine Myran (Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge) are finishing their terms of service, and Chris Urban (La Quinta Inn and Suites), Carter Fong (Trinity High School) and Laura Hann (Best Friends Mentoring) are taking their places. We’d like to thank the outgoing board members for their wonderful service to the community, and officially welcome the new members! Our Board of Directors is a great group to be a part of, and with these three coming on we’re certain it will continue to be.
Other changes at the chamber are reflective of the great many new members becoming part of our business community. Because of all of these new friends, I thought it would be a good time to review your local chamber’s mission and share with you some of the ways in which we strive to accomplish that mission.
The mission of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce is to provide leadership to promote a progressive business environment. We work to accomplish that goal through various means. Some of these are developing relationships with community and statewide organizations, organizing events for local businesspeople to mingle with each other and potential customers, promoting local business through available media channels, providing community information and promoting chamber businesses to the general public, and participating in in-house and community-wide efforts that are beneficial to the local business community.
To accomplish these activities, in addition to staff time, the chamber houses volunteer committees in the area of membership develop-ment, agriculture, government affairs, education, promotion, and recreational events. The wonderful volunteers in each of these committees work hard to reali
ze committee goals and keep Dickinson an amazing community in which business can thrive.
What it all comes down to is this: if you need something, be it community information, business consultation, inexpensive advertis-ing, quick assistance, a place for your employees to volunteer—please let us help! Supporting you is what we’re here to do, and we love to do it!
We look forward to hearing from you and working together to accomplish our shared goals!

September 12
marked the first
day of this year's Leader-
ship Dickinson program.
After brief introductions at
the Chamber of Com-
merce, we loaded the bus
to Medora to spend the
day at the Badlands Min-
istries high ropes course.
Upon returning, we com-
pleted a personality quiz
and discussed what we
had learned.
The high ropes course was
an exhilarating and enjoy-
able experience, but it also
showed us the value of
communication. The group
also learned the impor-
tance of teamwork and
leadership in high-
pressure situations. Every-
one is optimistic about the
next
session.
