Wednesday Nights in the Sanctuary is led by Nancy Wells, RN, BSN from Holistic Wor ld. Nancy is teaching on Holistic Balance (Body, Mind & Spirit), Living Stress Free, Life with Chronic Disease, Staying Independent and Aging Well. No books to buy. You do not need to sign up for this class. Just come as you are able. On Oct. 12, “Half Truths” begins.

Wednesday Night Acts 2:42 Dinner begins at 5:15 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Pr icing: $6 adults/children 12 & older ; $4 children ages 5-11 (4 and under eat free); $18 family maximum. Menu for October 5: Ham slices, mac and cheese, green beans, tossed salad, rolls, dessert.

Say “YES” to Pecans! The member s of the UMW YES Link are selling pecans again this fall as a fundraiser for their mission projects. They are offering both fresh “new crop” extra large halves in 1 pound bags for $11 per bag and chocolate-covered pecan halves in 12 oz. foil gift bags for $9 per bag. Order forms are available in the Welcome Center and the church office or you may place an order by calling Terri Schrot at 400-5800 or contact any YES Link member. Delivery will be in the church kitchen on Sunday, November 13 between services. Payment will be due at delivery.

Flu Shot Clinic – Wed., Oct. 5, 4-6 pm in Gathering Area. No appointment necessary. Bring Medicare or insurance card (most insuranc-es are accepted; cash price is $32.99.) A limited number of pneumonia and TDap vaccines will also be available (check with your insur-ance company to see if the cost is covered at a pharmacy.)

Christmas Angels Ministry will be accepting applications for Chr istmas assistance for any family needing help purchasing pre-sents this year. Registration will be in room 505 (modular bldg.) Monday, October 10, 1:00–7:00 pm and Thursday, October 13, 9:00 am–2:00 pm. Space is limited to the first 300 children. Volunteers are also needed to take applications, pray for families, staff tables and shop for gifts. Call Dawn Brown, 421-1760 to volunteer.

Benefit Concert for The Open Door. 4th Annual Music Jam with Mountain Faith; Thursday, October 20, 7 pm at Haywood Community College Auditorium. Advance tickets $10 adults, $8 children 12 and under; at the door $12 adults, $10 children. For $25 donation, be listed as a friend of The Open Door in the program and receive one complimentary ticket. Space for advertising in the program is availa-ble. Ministry Trip to South Africa - An informational meeting will be held on Tues., Oct 11 at 6 pm in room 505. Paul & Ginah Butler will share opportunities for involvement with the Manaleni Achievement Centre in South Africa including the option of participating in a ministry trip to “The MAC” in April 2017. The Women of the Vineyard present “Women to Women”, a spiritual encounter designed for every woman, meeting Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in room 202 behind the Venue (begins Oct. 7.) Please join us for praise, worship, Bible teaching and fun fellowship for women ONLY.

2nd Annual LC Emmaus Community Picnic at the 3rd Generation Barn (84 Frank Mann Road, Canton) is October 9, 3:30-6:30 pm. Bring your family, a dish to feed 8 and a chair (there will be games from 3:30 pm until dinner at 5:00).

Have you been impacted by the rejection of someone you care about – family member, friend or co-worker – because of his or her sexual orientation? Did you know that there is a place here at Long’s Chapel where you can safely share that hurt and (together with other Long’s Chapelers) hope for a future where all God’s children are valued for who they are? Conversations of Hurt and Hope meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:15 pm in Pastor Chris’ office. Plan to join us this week, Oct. 5.

One of the very active United Methodist Women groups here at Long’s Chapel is Link #2 and this month this group (who are known for their cooking) will be having a fund raising Soup and Sandwich lunch on Sunday, October 9, from 11:00 until 1:00 in the Fel-lowship Hall. There will be a variety of homemade soups and sandwiches available for a donation to their Link. This group is very active in serving both our church and the community. Some examples of how the money is used include support for the preschool teachers, adopting children each year through Christmas Angels, and supporting Clothes for Kids. All funds from the lunch will go to support these missions. Come join us for great food and fellowship after church. Cram the Van: Help us fill the church van with school supplies and hygiene products for students in need – Oct. 21-23 in the park-ing lot. A project of the Homeless Youth Initiative. Supply list is available on church website.

The Battle is On for who will be crowned Trunk Wars Champ ’16. Applications for trunks are available online. Invite friends to be a part of the excitement! October 22, 4-7 pm, Upper Church Parking Lot.

In conjunction with Long’s Chapel’s upcoming “Taking the Next Step” Stewardship Campaign dur ing the month of October , Robert Schnase’s book, “Practicing Extravagant Generosity” will be available in the Gathering Area for a suggested donation of $5.00. This book provides daily Bible readings and meditations for the four-week program to help you experience afresh the joy of serving God through generosity. Publication Deadlines: For the weekly Chapel Connection: requests for bulletin announcements and/or verbal announcements are due in the church office on Tuesdays no later than noon (for the upcoming Sunday’s publication). For the monthly Chapel Chatter: requests for newsletter articles/info are due on the 8th of every month no later than noon (for the following month’s publication).
