The Wheatland County Division 2 election orum, held on Oct. 7 in the Gleichen Community Hall, brought
out many issues aecting Division 2 over the past ouryears.
I have decided to run or council because I believeits time or a new voice to represent both the hamletsand rural issues. We have issues that need to be ad-dressed, said Division 2 candidate Ian Mast.
Mast, along with Russell Smith, Kevin Miller, ColinSmith, Rex Harwood and Jacki Kirk, are all hoping to
be the voice that helps solves issues or the divisionduring the next our years.
I was happy to fnd out there were six candidates, with fve here tonight. That means we are an activecommunity, we are involved in the community and weare concerned about it, said Colin Smith. Rex Harwood
was unable to attend the orum. The candidates outlined several issues they say need
attention in the county, including the lack o develop-
ment or business growth; crumbling inrastructure inhamlets; lack o communication between WheatlandCounty and its residents; the opposition o residents tothe closing o local schools; the need or clean drink-ing water; and the need or improvements or inter-relationships between other towns, hamlets, rural areasand the Siksika reserve. There was a call or a public accounting o money
spent and area needs assessments to be done by Wheat-land County. It was suggested the Municipal Develop-ment Plan and Area Service Plans needed changes toaid development and commercial/industrial investmentin the region. The idea o hiring an economic devel-opment ofcer was suggested and whether industrialareas outside o current established zones could be al-lowed.A question rom the audience prompted a discussion
that small business permits needed to be developed,
rather than requiring all businesses to go through thelengthy development permit process. It was suggestedimproved curb appeal and unsightly property cleanup
would boost property value and increased investmentin the community. Exorbitant utility hook-up ees weresaid to deter people rom moving into county hamlets.
A 711 number or direct dispatch o bylaw ofcers wassuggested.
Some candidates said when Gleichen went to hamletstatus, maintenance had suered. A dedicated main-tenance person assigned to the hamlets was one pre-erred solution. Others suggested seasonal public worksassignments with regular ollow-up on the projects. It
was put orward that residents should be able to talkto public works sta or maintenance requests, ratherthan addressing issues to the councillor or reerral.

When and where council meetings were held was dis-cussed, with suggestions o holding evening meetings, and council travelling to alternate towns and hamlets. Im-proved communication was said to be needed and couldbe improved by establishing community boards, round ta-ble discussions by community leaders, improving currenttechnology and the county website, posting notices andholding more open houses to inorm the public on countyissues. Better signs on the highway were discussed and res-idents want them updated. Fire ban signs were also wantedthroughout the county. The closing o the Gleichen school was a deep concern.
One measure was or county councillors to vote down theEastland School development permit. All the candidatesagreed busing elementary students was bad or the chil-dren and the community, and they said they had grave con-cerns about the saety o children at a school built betweentwo secondary highways. All candidates agreed that a local
school was an economic draw and a centre o the com-munity.
Candidates were divided on the water issues, with somesupporting piped in water and others wanting an updatedGleichen plant, fltration and better treatment or toppingup the Glechen reservoir when levels were low. There wasalso a mention o concerns over sae drinking water, o wa-ter rights and how the water grants were used.
Panhandling and alcohol abuse in Gleichen and Clunydowntown cores was discussed. It was suggested a co-ordi-nated eort be implemented by the hamlets, the RCMP andthe Siksika council to help solve the addiction problems othose creating disturbances, with a possibility o develop-ing a co-operative AADAC program. Changing the hoursliquor could be purchased was mentioned as a deterrent. There was open discussion with the public ater the au-
dience question period, and all candidates welcomed resi-dents to contact them to discuss their platorm. Electionstations will be set up in Gleichen and the county ofce onOct. 21, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Strathmore High School (SHS) is seek-ing ways to ensure its students are sup-ported in various ways, including help-ing with feld trips and perhaps oeringa breakast and/or lunch program at theschool. But fnding the unding neededto implement various programs can bea problem.
Recently, the school submitted an ap-plication to the large unding categoryo the AVIVA Community Fund com-petition, an annual competition thatis changing Canadian communities bybringing great ideas to lie, accordingto Aviva Insurance, the company re-sponsible or the competition.
SHSs entry into the competition, en-titled Helping Hands, is designed as abursary type program that will help stu-dents in need. According to SHS princi-pal Gary Reagan, SHS sta has alwaystried to fnd ways to help kids whoseparents cannot aord some o the basicthings, such as money or felds tripsand sports and so on.
It would be a bursary program tosupport kids at the school who needhelp with curricular feld trips, or a
breakast/lunch program or kids whoneed support outside the school as
well, on a temporary basis, he said.We know our student population wellenough that theres a signifcant portionthat I think would access and beneftrom some bursary support.
Reagan said that in addition, a co-cur-ricular program would allow kids to en-gage in dierent relationships that aresupportive and un, building character, sel esteem and connections.
Participation in co-curricular pro-grams is a tremendous way or kids tobuild connections with others kids, be-cause otherwise their connections arelimited to the riends that they have orchoose to have, and their classmates,he noted.
Its a wonderul way or kids togrow as individuals. I know what it cando or kids, and i the kids are not ableto participate, theyre missing out on somuch. The school frst ound out about the
AVIVA Community Fund competitionthrough Heather Robertson at ActionInsurance Group. The brokerage is sup-portive o SHSs Helping Hands idea, and wants to help spread awareness.
Its all about giving back to the com-
munity and fnding something that isnear and dear to our hearts, and kids
are a big deal to us, said Janelle Pet-tier, a personal account manager withAction Insurance Group.
Each idea submitted in the AVIVACommunity Fund competition movesorward through a voting process. There are three chances to have one othe top 30 ideas and move to the nextround o voting.
I we can be one o the top 10 ideasin the large unding group, then wemove on to the semi-fnals. I not, westill have round three to try again. I weget into the semi-fnals, then again it isvoting. Ater that it is judging, said Pet-tier.
It really is simple, you register once.
You can go onto Facebook and all youhave to do is click vote now, it really isthat simple; you can vote once a day.
She said it is easy as a society to be-lieve that 90 per cent o kids are hav-ing breakast and lunch, but when youtake the blinders o you realize a highpercentage o them are not.
For more inormation about SHSs en-try into the competition, and to vote, visit http://www.avivacommunityund.org/ideas/ac17039.

Many inspirational speakers have encouraged teens towork toward their dreams, but Ian Hill is one who has over-come many o the same obstacles that teens struggle with indaily lie.
In his address to the Strathmore High School (SHS) lead-ership class on Oct. 8, Hill characterized himsel as just aregular guy, but one who learned to overcome challengesand fnd keys to reaching goals.
When I was your age I couldnt read. When I was yourage I was sitting in his (vice principals) ofce. I was in abunch o dierent homes and ate out o a garbage can, saidHill. I wouldnt be in a leadership class, I would be outside. So I always wondered, when they made me sit down andlisten to some guy that came rom outside, whats this guysstory, whats his program, whats his deal?
I want to show you how to get rom nowhere, to some-
where.Hill is president o the board o directors and volunteer
CEO with Let Them Be Kids, an all volunteer, non-proft,community based organization that acts as a catalyst or thebuilding o playgrounds, skate parks and ftness parks acrossCanada and beyond. Since 2008, Let Them Be Kids has sup-ported over 160 projects across Canada.
In his presentation at SHS, Hill said he wants students toidentiy where they are today, and identiy their dream orthe uture. In the gap between, he said, lay the challenges toovercome.
You cant go on a journey until you think o what thatjourney may hold or you.
Hill outlined some o the challenges students today ace, including negative attitudes and ears. Societal or culturalstructures, past ailures, and ears o being laughed at or crit-icized can also become impediments, and Hill said peoplebecome so protective against them that they no longer reachor their dreams.
My history is not my destiny, said Hill, about his ownlessons learned.
He suggests accepting limitations and dismissing worriesover things that cant be controlled. He said people have achoice on how they think. By fnding alternative paths andusing positive thinking, space opens to new orward paths. Finally, he said the key to bridge challenges is belie in onessel.
It sounds simplistic, but it is not, said Hill. We all havethe capacity to see lie getting better than it was the daybeore.
Hill illustrated his point by saying that out o 70 billionpeople who have lived on Earth, no one has the same DNAor fngerprint, a act that makes each individual priceless andunique. Each person oers something no one else can oer, leaving a special imprint on the world. I we believe that we
are special and treat ourselves as special, Hill said others willbelieve it as well.
Hills ormula or success is to combine belie, optimismand respect, with energy and commitment. He comparedeach second o the day to a $1 coin. Each day, there is$86,000 to invest. He asked students i they would spend itlying on the couch playing video games, or would they put ittowards action plans to their dreams and goals?
Hill said the philosophy has worked in his own lie -- hecurrently directs multi-million dollar companies and devoteshis lie to improving the planet, through public speaking andvolunteer eorts.
Hill said he has no doubt that when a person shares theirsupport and talent with others, not expecting any reciprocalpayment, benefts abound. It opens doors when one leastexpects them to open. He encouraged the students to reachout to others i they were struggling.
Today I am ortunate; I have more than I could ever hopeto have, primarily because o adults like those people (teach-ers) right there. Some teacher, some coach, some principalbelieved in me and saw the potential in my lie, said Hill. These people are here because they love you and want tosee you do something great with your lie. The day thingsturned around in my lie was when I realized their role wasto help make things better.
Hill supports the Becoming a Community Leader coursesoered ree through Bow Valley College, and he encouragedstudents to sign up i they were ready to be leaders. Becom-ing a Community Leader is a 15 week online program orstudents and adults alike that can be done at ones own pace.It begins on Oct. 18. For more inormation or to register, con-tact Teri K. McKinnon, education representative with BowValley College, Strathmore campus, at 403-462-2550.

Th Strathor Assbly of Youth (SAY) hld a ayoral foru at Strathor High School on
Oct. 9. Both currnt mayor Stv Grajczyk and ayoral hopful michal ell had a chanc to
answr qustions for th studnts.
Shannon LeCLair
Times Reporter
The Strathmore Assembly or Youth(SAY) held a mayoral orum or candi-dates Steve Grajczyk and Michael Ellon Oct. 9.The orum, moderated by Sarah McK-
innon and Erik Schiiler, was intendedto allow a chance or SAY members tofnd out more about the mayoral can-didates.
Ell explained to the audience that hespent years in the corporate sector inthe fnancial, business, and personalincome tax and property tax felds. Hesaid he also worked as a salesman, and
had been involved in advertising. Ellsaid he has lived in Strathmore or 35years and wants to repay the commu-nity or all it has done or him and hisamily.
With these kinds o experiences thatIve had, I eel that they are going tobeneft me as your mayor, said Ell.
Grajczyk has also lived in Strathmoreor 35 years as a businessman.
I have done a lot o things in thecommunity, and Strathmore has donea lot or me, he said. It is my turnto give back by putting mysel in localpolitics.
Grajczyk said he eels the best wayto give back is by getting into local
politics and making the community abetter place. He said his experience asgeneral manager with the Strathmore& District Agricultural Society or ouryears, serving as a town councillor 35years ago and again these past threeyears as mayor, and his time as a smallbusiness owner, has taught him eco-nomics and how to save money. Hesaid he has travelled the world mak-ing connections, and has been learningwhat works in other communities sothat he can fnd ways to make Strath-more a better place to live.
Thats my goal -- to make the com-munity a better place to live or all oyou. I want people to grow up in acommunity thats sae or the uture,
said Grajczyk. The candidates were asked, Could
you share with us what you tell oth-ers when you are talking about Strath-more?
Ell spoke o his wie, who is origi-nally rom Calgary, and how she waswary about moving to Strathmore. To-day, he said, she would never moveback because she loves it here. He saidStrathmore is a warm community thatoers the amenities that young peopleand seniors need.
For his part, Grajczyk said he tellspeople about how Strathmore is a lit-tle community near Calgary, that it isa sae, warm place to grow up in andthat there are many amenities.
Were a small town with big cityamenities here. We have the hospital,we have the swimming pool, we havegood parks, we have playgrounds, wehave walkways and, thanks to the SAYstudents, we have a path system that isreally useul now, said Grajczyk. Wehave all the things o a big city with asmall town attitude, and that is a bigplus to everybody. The moderators asked the candidates
to list their our-year and 10-year goals
or the town.Ell said that in the next our years,
town fnances need to get under con-trol. He said in the last three years, town debt has increased by $7 million, which is costing $2 million a year torepay.
He said once that is under control, unds could then be used to providedierent services and amenities neededin the town. He cited downtown revi-talization, which he said will help withthe tax base and will improve the f-nancial situation. Ell also said he hopesthat in 10 years, the need to keep thearm land will be realized.
We have to come up with a solution
in regards to doing multi-amily andmulti-story buildings to keep us romusing prime arm land. I hope thatwithin 10 years that we start to get tothat (mindset) so that we can do that, said Ell.
Grajczyk said his constant goal isworking on getting the industrial parkdeveloped. Without an industrial park,we will not be able to alleviate or keepour taxes at a reasonable level. Thosethings are big to us, we must encour-age it.
Grajczyk explained the defcit, whichhe said is not caused by any councilor any council member on board rightnow. Rather, he said the defcit stemsrom the sewage treatment plant and
the water line rom Calgary. In order to entice people rom Cal-
gary you must have these amenitiesand ones that work with efciency, said Grajczyk.
In the last three years the town alsohad to build the reservoir to be up tocode when it came to a sae level opotable water storage in the case o abreak in the water line.
Candidates were asked to identiy achallenge that Strathmore is currentlyacing and to explain how they would
SAY hosts mayoral forumlike to see it solved.
One o the biggest challenges weace is the hospital -- we must keep thehospital open, that is critical to all o usand to the uture o Strathmore, saidGrajczyk. With the extended care wing closed,
he added it is important to make surethat part o the hospital is being usedis some way. He said there has beendiscussion with the Alberta HealthMinister to fnd out what the plan is orthe empty wing.
Ell agreed about the importance othe hospital. He also said the townneeds to address the revitalization othe downtown core.
When we have people come in toStrathmore and they see all o the emp-ty buildings down there, they wonderwhy there isnt a real opportunity orthem, he noted. I believe i we canuse some incentives with our businesspeople downtown, we can encouragethem to reurbish the outsides o theirbuildings and maybe the insides, saidEll.

Sometimes making one small change in adietary habit can make a big difference in yourweight. It is estimated that drinking one can of
a sugar-containing soft drink per day can put onabout 14 pounds (6.75 kg) in a year. This is agood place to start. Add in a brisk walk everyday. That will help also.
Doctors put many of their heart patients on ababy A.S.A. daily. The term baby seems toindicate that its a small dose and cant causeany problems. However, even at that low dose,it can cause an increased risk of gastrointestinalbleeding. Call your doctor if you notice any ofthe following: bright red blood in vomit; vomitthat looks like coffee grounds, black stools orblood in stools.
The limits for alcohol intake is lower for wom-en than men for three main reasons. Womenhave less water in their bodies to help dilute thealcohol in the blood. Their bodies have a higherfat content thus alcohol is absorbed more slowly.Women have lower levels of an enzyme neededto metabolize alcohol.

In a race where there are many can-didates, all with seemingly similar plat-orms, its oten difcult or people tochoose who to vote or.
A Princeton University study on elec-toral behaviour summarized the manyways voters make their choices.
One way was to choose the personthat is the most amiliar to the voter.Mayoral candidate Steve Grajczyk iscertainly hoping that voter amiliaritywill encourage people to vote or himcome election day.
Most o you know me. I am a goodguy and know what I have done or
this town, he said at the Oct. 9 candi-date orum held at the Strathmore CivicCentre. The study listed some o the other
ways voters choose candidates: Through an immediate emotional
stimulus or frst impressions
A candidates past performance Personal characteristics Targeting a specic issue and iden-
tiying with the candidate that repre-sents it well
Choosing the candidate that rep-resents a particular party stance (E.g.Liberal, Conservative, etc.)
Choosing someone who showsleadership or a specifc group o in-dividuals
Who to choose Going with the candidate who ts
societal norms that the individual orcommunity expectAt the Oct. 9 orum, all candidates
presented their platorm and each hadone or more o the aspects above in-cluded in their introductory speech; orit was delivered when they answeredquestions put to them rom the audi-ence. Many appealed to norms o am-ily lie and values, or community spirit. They designated their commitment to
the community through work, or lead-ership in community associations orgroups. Many o the answers were sim-ilar to the Oct. 3 orum, but some o thecandidates adapted their campaign tomore ully address issues brought uppreviously by the other candidates. The issues presented included im-
proved residential, commercial, indus-trial and economic development; towndebt and fscal responsibility; waterrates and utilities; recreational acili-ties; health care; seniors and youth ser-vices; and orming partnerships withservice groups and other communities.
So by delving urther into internet, voters can use some tools to narrowdown the candidate playing feld.
A student teaching tool called Think,Choose, Vote utilized in the British Co-lumbia education system has studentschart issues they think are important, evaluate what they know about the is-sues and do some urther research onthem. They also document what theyknow about the candidates. Then theychart the candidates platorm and is-sue stance identiying them as actual, opinion based, or on based other cri-teria.
For those with a mathematical ge-nius, there are also complicated math-ematical ormulas that can predict theprobable winners o an election, butyou must still do the math.
Many political parties and media out-lets use polls to determine the mostavourable candidates and some vot-ers just go with the popular choice. There is the argument that polls can beskewed in the avour o one candidateor another depending on the bias othe pollster, but dont think the elec-tion is all but won, as oten the un-decided vote swings the majority in awhole dierent direction rom the pre-vious polls, leading to an unexpected
winner. There is a computer tool called Vote
Compass that was used in the Alberta2012 provincial election, where votersanswered questions on various issuesand the computer compared those an-swers to the running candidate inor-mation. It quickly spit out the name othe candidate that most resembled theusers profle. It was also available tovoters by the CBC media website in the2011 ederal election. Vote Compass at-tracted nearly two million users overthe fve-week campaign. The answersalso generated graphs o Canadian atti-tudes on certain issues. For results see:www.votecompass.com/results Unor-tunately, there is no Vote Compass or
local municipal elections. So whats let is going out to the o-
rums, reading candidate pamphlets, calling or meeting with the candidate, talking with members o the associa-tions they put up as reerences, read-ing their responses in the local media. It seems like a lot o work; but giventhat councillors and mayors are spend-ing voters hard earned money or ouryears, and making decisions about in-creased taxation, it might be worth thetime investment. With a little researchand introspection, most voters shouldbe able to pick out someone they thinkwill be a great and mark a ballot whenthey enter the voting booth on Oct. 21.

To the EditorWheatland County and Strathmore have been ad-

vices, Encana, ATB Financial, Primary Care Network,

inormation on this course on Oct. 8. Ater hearingwhat Mr. Hill had to say about the uses or this reecourse, I eel compelled to try to get as many peopleto participate as possible. Businesses, councils, orga-nizations, current volunteers, parents whos children
are small but will one day be involved with organiza-tions, high school students and everyone who wouldlike to see how our leadership roles are evolving andchanging and how to be a leader are encouragedto attend. I am encouraging you to participate. Thecourse can be accessed on your time schedule. Youmust register beore Oct. 18. It is an approach to lead-ership that is aimed at working together well ... as

To the Editor
Although Strathmores next council will be deter-mined by local residents, many individuals own or
work in businesses there. Residents o the surround-ing communities are also stakeholders in Strathmore.Interest in the upcoming elections is not restricted
to the community where we reside as many peoplenow live in one place and work in another. Decisionson Oct. 21 will impact lives both personally and pro-essionally, so it is valuable to know what is takingplace. I participate in the democratic process by ask-ing questions and listening to debate. Fundamentalto that process is the idea that within the public laysthe true power and uture o society; thereore, what-ever trust the public places in its ofcials must berespected by them.Through my attendance at the candidate orums, I
discovered there are several smart and articulate in-dividuals who have chosen to run in Strathmore and
Wheatland County and they should all be applaudedor their willingness to take on this challenging, pub-lic role. The wonderul thing about democracy is that when
strong challengers emerge, they engage voters at-tention igniting an incumbents willingness to be
accountable as other choices become visible. Manycandidates are speaking about transparency and asconstituents we will need to keep that fre burning. Agovernment is transparent when the great majority othe inormation that it holds about its activities, poli-cies, etc., is available to the public. Also, it appears that an interesting trend current-
ly taking place in Calgary seems to have moved toStrathmore. I understand that incumbents have en-dorsed each other thereby indicating they believethey best serve the town as a slate a group o likeminded candidates joined together to attain or retainpolitical power.
Whether or not hiring an economic developmentofcer serves Strathmores current needs, I do not un-derstand where the very high salary estimates are ob-tained. A quick search o Economic Developers Alber-ta website and a Government o Albertas site broughtme to the Millier Dickison Blais 2010 National Salary
Survey or the Economic Developers Association oCanada. In that study, they report the average mini-mum salary or an economic development ofcer at$52,200 and the average maximum salary at $66,828.
This is signifcantly dierent than the over $100,000salary that has been mentioned and comparable tothe cost o the paving o the parking lot at the CivicCentre.
How does a healthy dialogue occur without ques-tioning or challenging inormation and commitmentsset beore those responsible or said decisions? With-out this type o dialogue are a communitys best in-terests being served? I know that lively conversationsoccur at county meetings sometimes resulting in ittaking a while to achieve consensus. Any councilseectiveness depends on elected ofcials attendingmeetings with a willingness to hear and consider allinormation and providing input on their areas whilethinking and voting or the whole municipality.
Believing that the uture o our municipalities trulyresides with the public, I challenge and encourage
you to learn about your candidates. Talk with them, ask questions as this is a vital part o the voting pro-cess and share your concerns. Then be sure to voteon Oct. 21.

In last weeks article McGiver Delays Decision it
was stated that the Wheatland Regional Water Plan
would need about $2.5 million for the Standard
water treatment plant. This is incorrect. The upgrade
estimates from previous studies were $4.2M for
upgrading Gleichen (2012 estimate) and $2.8M to
upgrade Rockyford (2010 estimate). Standards plant
does not need upgrading in the immediate future.

Parliamentary Report
Many constituents have contacted my oceollowing reports o the RCMPs conscation orearms during the High River food. This matterhas been taken very seriously by mysel and my
Alberta Caucus colleagues, including our PrimeMinister.
I there was any impropriety by the RCMP inHigh River, this will come to light in the inves-tigation being perormed by the on-going Com-mission or Public Complaints Against the RCMP.
We are awaiting the results o that inquiry. TheRCMP Complaints Commission is an independentagency created by Parliament to be responsibleor ensuring that complaints made about the con-duct o RCMP members are examined thoroughly, airly and impartially. The Commission is not parto the RCMP.We all accept that whenever a local state o emer-
gency is declared, police have authority to takeextraordinary measures such as entering homes toensure they are secure, or to see i someone needsto be evacuated. The RCMP claims that as part osearch and rescue eorts, when they came acrossunsecured rearms in plain view, they stored
them or uture return to the lawul owners. Many constituents were concerned that homes
with rearms were identied through the use othe now-deunct long-gun registry and targeted
by the RCMP.As your Member o Parliament, I took this mat-
ter very seriously. Throughout my tenure as yourdemocratically elected ederal representative, ouropposition to the Liberals long-gun registry wasconsistently the number-one political issue, untilour Conservative government scrapped the reg-istry in 2011.
Following the events at High River, I contactedthe RCMP in Ottawa and locally, regarding ourconcerns. I have asked repeatedly i the RCMP has
access to the old long-gun registry. I have repeat-edly been told no.
I have pressed urther by asking whether therewas an old listing or other surviving registry data,or any other way that the long-gun registry can beused and I have been repeatedly told, absolutelynot.
Most recently, our new Minister o Public Saety, the Hon. Steven Blaney has responded to me by
providing inormation rom the report o the audito the destruction o the long-gun registry nation-wide that was completed in December o 2012.An oversight committee, including third partymembers, provided ongoing advice and guidancethroughout the process o destroying the long-gun registry data. This committee: observed on-site the destruction o electronic records in theCanadian Firearms Inormation System (CFIS);created and ran queries to determine i electronicrecords identied as being related to the registra-tion o non-restricted rearms still existed in theCFIS; analyzed with computer-assisted audit toolsto determine i any electronic records were erro-neously omitted rom destruction; and obtainedconrmation rom the Director General, CanadianFirearms Program and the RCMPs Chie Inorma-tion Ocer that the electronic records identied
as being related to the registration o non-restrict-ed rearms in CFIS were destroyed. The RCMP reports that they are in contact with
aected parties in High River to ensure the saereturn o all rearms to their lawul owners, a pro-cess that is underway. I am condent to report tomy constituents that based on my own investiga-tion, I can conclude that that the Liberals waste-ul, ineective and costly Long-Gun Registry has
been destroyed!I you have any questions or concerns regard-

Vllage f Staar
Meet the candidates - Election 2013
Havng been on Standard Vllage councl for
the last sx years i have learned a lot, ncludng
to lsten and to do research before akng a
decson. On councl, i have had to ake a few
decsons i ddnt want to, but learned quckly
that ts part of the job. i learned to reove y-
self fro the stuaton at hand, and to wegh
nforaton before votng. Councls decsons
arent always popular but as a councllor n
Standard, i know that i can ake the hard de -
csons. Popular or unpopular, rght or wrong, i
wll always be wllng to explan y decsons
when a ratepayer asks. Councl ust always
be able to answer to the ratepayers. i can gve
three reasons why voters should put an X be -
sde y nae on electon day: 1) accountabl-
ty, 2) transparency, 3) i care about the Vllage
of Standard and surroundng area.

Vllage f Hussar
i would lke to thnk that people would love
to put a check besde not only y nae, but
other current councl ebers that are runnng
as well. in y opnon, they have done a great
job n the last three years that proves ther nter-
est n the success of the Vllage of Hussar.
A check ark besde these naes would
let us know that we are ovng n the correct
drecton for the vllage. Please let the know
that you are happy wth the progress that hasbeen ade. Your rght, your vote, and your de-

Havng grown up n Hussar, and now ras-
ng a faly, i have wtnessed any changes
wthn the Vllage. Wth change there are chal-lenges and i a up for the challenge. A chal-
lenge ahead of a councl s to proote the Vl-
lage to the outsde world to entce people to
start busness and to be resdents of the Hus-
sar county. Beng a resdent of the Vllage
of Hussar for the past 37 years, i feel i would
be a great spokesperson. i also understand
that we need to keep our dentty and sall

Kevn mller was asked, f elected, what
s one thng you would lke to be on the rst
agenda of the new councl?
i thnk f the county akes t easer for peo-
ple to buld houses n the halets, and not ask
for a depost for the rght to buld a house, ths
would ake t easer and ore attractve for
people to ove nto the county. Ths would
help by ore tax dollars gong nto the county
offers.
There could also be ndustry nto the ha-
lets as well. Ths would ake the county ore
attractve for people to ove and buld ther
hoes here. We ust keep our farers and
ther land n nd, and try to keep houses
and ndustry n the halet and town lts, as
the farer needs ther land to ake a lvng
and pay ther taxes. Surely, we can ake ths
county attractve for people to want to ove
and lve here. i would certanly be open to any
thoughts people would have on the atter,
and dscuss t wth the one on one. We ust
all work together for the good of the county
and the people.

A vote for T Frank for Hussar Vllage
Councl? i offer a quet deternaton and
persstence on councl, and an ablty to lsten
to your concerns. i a a r belever n the
regonal approach that Hussar has ebarked
on wth Standard, Rockyford, and The County
of Wheatland. Workng together akes sense,
and the help we have receved has been n-
credble. On councl, you learn two thngs very
quckly: thngs always take longer than they
take, and that what you want and what you
need are two dfferent thngs. By focusng on
what we need, and keepng the cost of lvng
n Hussar wthn reason, we ay just be able
to get those thngs we want. Thank you ev-
