From the desk of Father José,

Our Gospel today invites us to be aware of our own personal intention about doing the right thing! It brings to the forefront of the other disci-ples the attitude of wanting to be better than others in the other life. This request may not be too far off on this side of eternal life as we may be tempted to be better than others. This past Wednesday, I had the blessing of presiding at the school Mass. The last verse of our first reading from St. Paul was: “God shows no partiality.” This very central message of our Gospel today and our own Catholic journey should re-mind us to simply treat others with respect. This will in turn guide us

in our daily actions to be aware that we are simply companions on the journey. As a parish school we have had some losses where our school is mourning the passing of relatives. It was very prayerful to simply see our school community come together. This is what we ought to do all the time! Simply walking together and witnessing God’s love for all of us. May we put away jealousy and anything that separates us from being united in the jour-ney. May St. Charles intercede for our conversion to uplift each other.

Fraternally, Fr. José Magaña, V.F. Be at peace, God will provide

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT THE DOMESTIC CHURCH

The Catholic church has always recognized the absolutely essential nature of the "Domestic Church" - the place where our Faith is lived out and shared in our homes. "Thus the home is the first school of Christian life and "a school for human enrichment." Here one learns endurance and the joy of work, fra-

ternal love, generous - even repeated - forgiveness, and above all divine worship in prayer and the offer-ing of one's life." (CCC, 1657) St. Charles has a special ministry dedicated to encouraging and supporting the Domestic Church in each of our homes. PROTECT YOUR CHILD’S FINANCIAL FUTURE As parents, we want to keep our children safe from any harm. That includes harm from identity theft,

which can lead to compromised credit scores and financial ruin, before your child even gets his/her first job! Take steps to minimize the risk of identity theft by setting up credit freezes on your child’s

social security number, or getting an IRS identity protection PIN that will prevent fraudulent use of your child’s identity. To learn more from the VIRTUS® article “Minors and Identity Theft,” visit

http://www.catholic.org/travel/story.php?id=65521.

Holy Family Service Ministry

Help one another with the generosity of the Lord, and despise no one. When you have the opportunity to do good, do not let it go by. -- St. Polycarp of Smyrna

We Gladly Welcome New and Returning Volunteers!

A small crew of dedicated volunteers have kept our ministry working throughout the past twenty months of the pandemic. They have worked double, triple, and quadruple duty to fill the shoes of the many wonderful volunteers who wisely stayed home because they are of an age or had health conditions making them especially vulnerable to an infection. Now that vaccines are available, we would love to welcome new volunteers. Please call to inquire at 818-985-7365.

Christmas Toy Giveaway: Thinking Ahead We will be giving new toys to our families who are registered for service in our ministry as we do every year, though once again, we will distribute the toys in December during client visits to the center instead of having a big gathering at the school for toy pickup. We’ll need new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages infant through twelve years. Books, stuffed animals, games, sports balls, and other toys are all great gifts. It is not too early to start shopping; we will likely ask for these donations throughout November.

Men’s and women’s underwear, new in packages. (It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, but new underwear is very much appreciated by all.)

Groceries We Especially Appreciate

Ushers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ministers to the Homebound, Sacristans, Music Ministers: At this time during the COVID pandemic, we
