Next Sunday, October 21

St. Stan’s is offering the opportunity for children in Pre-K 4 through 4th grade to participate in our monthly concurrent Liturgy of the Word for Children. This is a special program where the Sunday Scripture readings are proclaimed and explained on a level appropriate to children during the 11am Sunday Mass. On designated Sundays, at the 11am Mass, after the opening prayer (Collect) of the Mass, the celebrant will call the children, with their leaders, before the front of the Altar where he will give them a blessing and send them forth to the Parish Community Room. The children, with their leaders, will quietly and reverently leave the church and proceed to the Parish Community Room to listen to the Mass readings from a Children’s Lectionary. They will participate in an age appropriate homily and activity explaining the Word that they just heard. They will be led in song and prayer as well. The children will then conclude this time by professing a simple act of faith and pray their prayers of intercession. Afterwards, they will quietly return to the church to join their families once again in the pews for the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This Liturgy of the Word for Children is celebrated throughout several churches in the Archdiocese with positive responses from children and parents alike. Because this is a new pilot program for us here at St. Stan’s, we are slowly and carefully putting it into place by offering it once a month, beginning this Sunday. If we have positive feedback, and enough adult volunteers, we hope to eventually offer it weekly. If you would like to help with this program, please contact the Faith Formation office.

WINTER COAT DRIVE This annual, successful drive is sponsored by Dutchess Outreach to benefit the needy in Dutchess County and coordinated by Guardian Self Storage in our Pleasant Valley area. Duration: First Sunday thru last Sunday in October. Box is kept in the HALL vestibule. ONLY WINTER COATS (clean and in good condition)

BABY BOTTLE COIN COLLECTION Our annual participation in this successful fundraiser during Respect Life Month benefits Good Counsel Homes. This program serves the needs of pregnant women and supports them and their children during pregnancy and beyond. Empty baby bottles are available for you and your family to pick up at the main exits of the church. The goal is to spend the month placing your spare change in each bottle, in addition to praying for those who struggle in these circumstances. This is an excellent teaching tool for all families on the importance of supporting the most vulnerable – the unborn. Please return these bottles on the last Sunday of October.

NOTES FROM THE PASTOR

NAILS IN THE CROSS... As we mentioned last weekend, our Lenten cross will be in the Sanctuary as a sign of our parish’s desire to do something to end the darkness over the church. Our faith has always taught the value of prayer and sacrifice as a way to change ourselves or our problems. We ask – if you are concerned about what is happening in the Church – that you plan on making some sacrifice (like a Lenten practice) every week or day as a sign of your desire to do something and channel the anger or frustration you feel into positive action for the Church. When you have made your decision and put it into action, place a nail in the cross. This will become a visible sign of St. Stan’s hopes and prayers for change. Please join us in this effort if you really are upset with what is happening. Let us begin to see our cross fill up with our sacrifices and prayers. Don’t just be upset – help change things by your personal sacrifices.

ALL DUTCHESS PARISHES ARE INVITED:

In prayerful response to the current Church crisis, there will be a Dutchess County Deanery-wide

Holy Hour The date for this evening was chosen in anticipation of
