A Faithful Note from Deacon Ron

Stewardship of Treasure “For it is in giving that we receive”

A Stewardship Thought “Using God's Gifts, Doing God's Work”

October is RESPECT LIFE MONTH. You're invited to join Catholics nationwide in celebrating Respect Life

Month with the message "Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent"!

Look for the bulletin inserts every Sunday this month on: Abortion, Help in Healing after Abortion, Caring

for Someone at Life's End, and Assisted Suicide. Learn what our Church teaches about these important life

issues. Also, visit Friends for LIFE's display at the Stewardship Table in the Narthex for more pro life

information, bumper stickers and car magnets. Learn more at www.usccb.org/respectlife.

“So the Lord God formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; what-ever the man called each living creature was then its name.” ~Genesis 2:19 The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind; it isn’t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations.

This past weekend I made my annual Deacon retreat with many of my brother deacons from throughout the Diocese. I look forward to these weekends each year for several reasons. First, it is an opportunity to pull away from the stress of normal everyday life and spend some time reflecting on all the blessings God has given me. Second, I get to spend time with some amazing, inspiring, holy, men of God and many of their equally dedicated and devout wives. Third, I ALWAYS learn something new that lifts my spirit on these retreats. And finally, I get a chance to recharge my batteries, which even Jesus needed to do from time to time. I highly recommend everyone taking time at least once a year to make a retreat! Take a little time to rejuvenate your spiritual life and you will feel the benefits in all aspects of your life. We are so blessed to have so many retreat options available to us here at Sacred Heart. The next retreat opportunity is our own Parish Retreat which will be held 25 - 27 October. Amy and I have made the Parish retreat a

couple of times and always get some new inspiration from the experience. If you have not yet signed up give it some serious thought. If you can’t make it to the Parish Retreat, consider one of the other opportunities coming up during the next year, ACTS, Cursillo or maybe a retreat at one of the Retreat Houses close by. God Bless, Deacon Ron

Sacred Heart’s offertory campaign reminds us to Serve With the Heart of Christ. Thanks to all parishioners who have completed and submitted

Commitment Cards. All commitments need to be submitted to the church no later than October 28 in order to be accounted for in the final Summary Report. Please complete and submit your card to the church even if you are unable to make a change to your current level of giving. For those registered parishioners not currently supporting the church with regular gifts to the Operating Fund, please consider a monthly gift to support the needs of our parish. Commitment cards were mailed to all Parishioners. If you did not get one, please call the office so we can add you to the church database or update your address in our database. Additional commitment cards are available at the Kiosk in the Narthex or from the office.
