!!Leadership Academy 2013 Experience

Leadership Academy “The Second Time Around”

Last year I attended LA 2012 as a participant. Who would have ever thought that a week in the woods, with 53 other CKI members from all over the world could change someone to become a better person, better yet, a better leader. This year I was chosen as one of the student facilitators to help with all preparations before, during, and after the academy. It was proven to me yet again how great a program like LA is. This year we had 63 amazing CKI members, all amazing in their own unique way. Seeing them engage in the program and grow not only personally but as a true leader was simply beautiful. Lifelong friendships were made and that is one of the tenets we serve by, Fellowship, having people all around the world that you can talk to

and even better, visit. As a Student Facilitator it was a lot of work, but one that I would do again if I

could. If you are thinking about attending LA please do not hesitate and if you are a

CKI LA 2013 graduate apply to become a Student Facilitator because you will love the 2nd part of your LA journey.

Leadership Academy 2013

There are no words, lyrics or poems that can describe the experience and feelings I shared with five of my fellow CKI members in Morgantown, Indiana. To me, Leadership Academy 2013 was a life changing experience. At first, I was not sure if I wanted to step so far out of my comfort zone, take a risk and experience the unknown. But now I have to admit, it was MORE than worth it!

During this week I learned about being a servant leader, to empower and encourage others into achieving greater goals. “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves. —Lao Tzu”. It is important for a leader to encourage others into becoming great leaders themselves.

Leadership Academy gave me inspiration, confidence, leadership skills and over 60 new lifelong friendships. I will be forever grateful for this experience and to those who made it possible!

Kids For the Future Camp Kiwanis Circle of the University of

Aruba

This year Kiwanis Circle K of the University of Aruba organized

for the first time a CKI Summer Camp titled “Kids for the

Future”. The camp was held in the summer vacation and a total

of 58 kids of elementary schools part took in the camp.

We believe that it is important to start at a young age to become a

strong, independent and charismatic leader. The focus was to

The children truly enjoyed themselves and learned about

themselves, their surroundings and the importance of engaging

themselves in activities not only for personal satisfaction but also

as a way to give back to their community, and that is what we

wanted to instill in them. The parents were impressed and happy

with the program, our personalities, and our dedication towards

the camp. On the last day of the camp we set up an exposition

with all the crafts made by the kids during the week and as a

farewell we had a presentation from the kids which included

some acting, dancing, and speeches. It was a wonderful week

where the kids and the Circle K Members got to interact and at

the same time learn a lot about themselves and others.

learn about themselves, others and their surroundings. It was an

opportunity for them to gain positive life-long memories. The

children had the opportunity to truly engage themselves in the

community and gave them a chance to participate in several

activities.

As it was the first camp we organized, we can really say that it was

well organized and that our program provided the kids with a

variety where the children could enjoy and learn at the same time.

The children got the opportunity to interact with our CK leaders

and talk with them as friends, about their future plans, and their

education.
