From our Pastor Dear Folks:
Items for this week:
**Communion Under Both Species: Now that October has come and the, “cold and flu season,” is coming upon us, the parish will go back to Communion under one species, the Sacred Host; we will withhold Communion from the cup until Easter. With this season upon us of colds and flu, not as many folks partake of the Precious Blood and then the Eucharistic Ministers are asked to consume any Precious Blood that isn’t consumed by the laity at Mass. The accidental properties of the Precious Blood remain even though it has undergone a substantial change. This is just during these cold months. Once Easter comes upon is, we will resume the Precious Blood.
**Stewardship: Now that the stewardship talks have been given, I want to thank everyone for the many ways that devotion to the faith is shown. I see over and over again the time that people donate, the talent that people donate, and the treasure that people donate to evangelize Jesus Christ. Thank you for all that you do. Your efforts make Christ alive!
**Saint Vincent de Paul: The annual St. Vincent de Paul Financial Report is en-closed within this bulletin. Please read this financial report to see all of the good the Saint Vincent de Paul Society does with donations. And, with the amount of folks needing financial assistance, the Saint Vincent de Paul members have asked if we could have a second collection to help restore their funds.
On the weekend of October 19-20, there will be 2 baskets on the Communion Rail for people to place donations if they want. Again, this society does so much good to help those in need. The money all goes to worthwhile efforts to help the poor and under-privileged.
Have a good week:
Fr. Jack

Stewardship Reflection October 13, 2019
28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” Luke 17:18
It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations
of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be com-
fortable. He called us to be faithful.

Curious about Knights of Columbus? We do more than just Tootsie Rolls.
Knights of Columbus, the world's largest Catholic lay organization,
was founded on principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.
We have 1.9 million members worldwide.
The Knights of Columbus is evolving from being a men's organization,
to being family focused. We'd like to invite all interested men,
18 or over, who are practicing Catholics to consider joining us.
You can visit https://www.kofc.org/en/todays-
knights/about-us.html for more info or http://www.kofc.org/joinus to join
online.
You may have seen us recently in our Tootsie Roll drive to collect
money for children with Developmental Disabilities.
This money goes to Cardinal Glennon Children's
Hospital, and other organizations. We would like to boost our member-ship, to enable us to engage in more
charitable activities.
St. Mary Magdalen's Knights of Columbus council 11556 meets on the 4th Thursday of every month in the
Church basement, normally from 7-8. We start at 6:30 when inducting new members, as we will on October 24. If you have ever considered joining,
now would be a great time.

Building up the culture of life by serving those around us . . .
During this month when we celebrate God’s gift of life, you can be proud of what you have done to build up the culture of life by serving those around you.
During the first nine months of this year through your donations to our parish St. Vincent de Paul, you have helped 186 individuals in 67 families by providing over $ 23,000 in financial assistance for utilities, rent and other needs. In addition, 82 bags of groceries were distributed because of the hundreds of food items donated
by our school children.
An elderly woman, whose husband is being treated for cancer received a new furnace through our St. Vincent de Paul St. Louis office.
Another elderly woman and her sister received help to pay down a $ 1,700 electric bill which resulted from a malfunctioning air conditioner. When they discovered the problem, they turned off the A/C and used fans
even though her sister has asthma and heart problems. Your donations to our St. Vincent de Paul were sup-plemented by your donations to CARE and other resources.
A young couple with a newborn were able to pay two months of back rent to prevent eviction through your SVDP donations, your donations to CARE and assistance from other parish SVDP conferences in our area.
Seven families received funds to reconnect their utilities after they had been disconnected. Many others were prevented from being disconnected.
We are grateful to you for your continued envelope and electronic donations. Additional contributions are appreciated. You can place cash in an envelope with “St. Vincent de Paul” written on enve-
lope or a check noting St. Vincent de Paul on memo line and drop in collection basket. Cash placed in the “For the Poor” box in vestibule also benefits St. Vincent de Paul.
May God bless you for your donations to St. Vincent de Paul and CARE because together we can serve people in need.
