Help a Family Rocked by a Horrific Crime

This past weekend a young pregnant mother and her unborn childwere killed in a brutal and unimaginable attack. The victim, MaritzaRamirez-Cruz, has a daughter attending St. Martini LutheranSchool in Milwaukee. Krista Parker nee Mayyou (pictured), whogrew up at and whose family still attends Immanuel Palatine, is ateacher at St. Martini and sent this appeal to LCC...

"My name is Krista Parker and I am the 5th grade teacher at St. Martini LutheranSchool in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our St. Martini family has been rocked by aterrible tragedy this past weekend. The mother of one of our K4 students (Ashley)was brutally murdered over the weekend. Maritza Ramirez-Cruz was around 8months pregnant. A woman by the name of Annette Morales-Rodriguez offered togive Maritza a ride home. Annette then beat Maritza, and cut the fetus from heruterus... Ashley's family is devastated by this horrible act. They have no money forfood, rent, or to get to Puerto Rico to give their mother and still born sibling aproper burial. We on behalf of the family are asking for any donations possible:money, gift cards for food or clothing, Walgreen's gift cards, or anything possible tohelp this family with their needs. I know this is very short notice, but the sooner wecould get these donations, the better for the family. Any help will be greatlyappreciated."

LCC has established a fund and all donations will go dollar for dollar to St. Martini tohelp during this most difficult time. Click here to donate and thank you for sharing themercy and compassion of Christ with Maritza's family.

CHRISTKINDL MARKETS trip to the Czech Republic,Germany and Austria, November 27 to December 5, 2011

December is the time for the Christkindl Markets (Advent Markets) in the Czech Republic,Germany and Austria, a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Literally translated, the street fairs are Christ-child markets. They happen in nearly every city and village, large and small. They are always cause for celebration and for shopping, for someroasted sausage, music on the streets and the insides of centuries-old churches, and, ofcourse, some hot, spiced wine. Let this be an invitation to focus on Advent and the Coming of Christ in bringing in theChristmas Season. Tim HetznerPresident, Lutheran Church Charities Click here for more information on this trip

Martin Luther School Principal Jeremy SchamberReports Latest from Joplin

Two people I've met recently are emblematic of the ongoingrecovery in Joplin. Kevin was at the edge of the storm and hishouse was heavily damaged but not destroyed. He has neighborsstill living with him who lost everything. Emily lost her homecompletely and what's left must be torn down. Her husband tookthe insurance check and left for California without her. She's nowleft to rebuild her life on her own. Although these are very tragicsituations for both Kevin and Emily, it has given Pastor Mech andme the awesome opportunity to minister to His children. English New Testaments Needed for SalamOutreach to StudentsRequest from Pastor Hicham Chehab, Salam ArabicFellowship, Missionary, POBLO- Chicago

Salam Arabic Fellowship needs paperback English copiesof the New Testament for the student ministry at College ofDupage and Morraine Valley Community College. NIV, orother modern translations are preferable. Our student ministry has given out more than 300 copies ofthe Bible to college students over the past four years, not tomention tracts and Christian books. God's Word sowsseeds of faith in the hearts of people and would neverreturn empty! At this time we are looking to give awaycopies of the New Testament only. We have found that tobe the most effective outreach to the students.

If you have copies of the New Testament to donate contact LCC at 866-455-6466 oremail [email protected] Click here to donate for the purchase of New Testaments

Scholarship a Child in MyanmarBecause of your Donations Two of 10 Students haveReceived Scholarships

Strict regulations in Myanmar (formerlyBurma) make it difficult for children to advanceto a University education. Without specializedschooling outside of the inadequate publicschool system most poor children never getthe chance for higher education which can lifttheir family out of poverty. The National Lutheran Church ofMyanmar is trying to change this and needsyour help to sponsor children in the 11th

grade (the final step prior to University). Because of your generous donations twochildren have already received scholarships. LCC received the following email from Rev.Charles Edwards:

Greetings from Myanmar. In our church there are many students but in grade 11(entrance control by the government directly) there are 10 students. They are veryclever but they are from the very poorest families. Their parents can not supportthem due to their poverty. Our church is trying to give scholarships but we are alsofacing and struggling for finical difficulties. Two months ago Lutheran ChurchCharities(LCC) gave scholarship to 2 students and they are now studying hard. Our church decided to send a prayer request to all our connections. Please prayfor them. Our church believes that through your faithful prayers God will certainlyhelp them in wonderful ways. Again, please pray for them. Blessings. Rev. Charles Edwards, Pastor

Sewing Machines Needed to Train Pastor Isaac'sOrphans in Haiti so they can Work and SupportThemselves!Request From Sue Gross, Haiti Lutheran Mission Project

On our last visit to Haiti we became aware that some of theOrphans we still remember as small children are growing quickly. Some of them will soon be out on their own trying to make a livingand supporting their own families. We are concerned that eventhough they have an education, jobs are in very short supply and itwill be difficult for them to survive. Next summer we hope to restart sewing classes so that those

ready to leave the orphanage will be able to support themselves by making items thatwe will bring back to the States to sell. For this project to start we are asking fordonations of portable sewing machines. We can send these machines on the bus whenwe ship it and it will not cost any extra freight. Please consider dusting off that machineyou no longer use and donating it to those who will put it to good use. If you have a machine to donate please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or [email protected] Click here to donate for the purchase of a sewing machine

One radical Muslim declared, "Young men must be sacrificed. Throats must be slit andskulls must be shattered. This is the path to victory." Why do radical Muslims hate us?How will the death of bin Laden affect this global conflict? What will it take to win thelongest war in America's history? Jim Denison answers these critical questions with insights born of a career spentengaging the Muslim world. An expert on world religions, he has lived and traveledamong Muslims for more than 30 years. LCC Emergency Assistance Fund

LCC gets requests daily concerning people who needassistance, and it is increasing because of the currenteconomic times we are living in.

LCC works through our churches to provide assistance bymaking the need known - and dollar per dollar we give themoney to a church to help the family or individual. However,we receive some requests that are emergencies, andmoney is needed that day or the next day and we can'talways get the need out in our weekly email newsletter first.

Would you consider making a gift to our LCC EmergencyAssistance fund so that when these emergency needsoccur we can help (through our churches) quicker? This isan important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercy

and Compassion and Proclamation of Christ.

Christian Art Show

Disconnected from church? Do you know a friend or neighbor who has been awayfrom church? Do you have a family member who is uncomfortable with the moreformal parts of worship life and the Christian faith? A safe way to open conversation would be to invite them to view an art display onJesus' parables located at the Chestnut Court Shopping Center on the southeastcorner of 75th Street & Lemont Road (Unit 194 between Edible Arrangements andthe New China Buffet). Artists from the Greater Chicago area have submitted theirwork in this month-long display. This exhibit will be open the following dates and times: Friday, October 14 from 6 pm to 9 pmSaturday, October 15 from 10 am to 6 pm The atmosphere is non-threatening: people may come and view and leave; may

pause and meditate and pray; or may converse as they desire. It's our prayer that God Himself will speak through thesepieces of art and that the Holy Spirit will move hearts for His Kingdom. This opportunity is sponsored by the Woodridge Sanctuary community (www.sanctuary1010.org) and the DownersGrove Immanuel Lutheran Church community (www.ilcdg.org).
