Work: What’s God Got to Do With It? The Great Divide

When it comes to what God has to do with our work, we often think it must have something

with what we do and where we do it. Surely some “jobs” are more important than others to

God, right? But is this Great Divide between secular work and sacred work legitimate? Let’s look

at Colossians 3:22-4:1 to begin our journey.

1. Read this entire little section aloud a few times. Jot down what you think Paul is writing about and what he says about it? (i.e. Is he talking about what we do or something else?)

2. What terms does Paul use to describe a right attitude toward those over us and the work they give us to do?

3. What does he say to masters? (4:1)

4. How important is the word “whatever” in v. 23 to the issue of the Great Divide?

5. Do think it would be harder to be a Christian slave or a Christian master? Why?
