All 15 of our CMDA Atlanta team atTenwek Hospital in Kenya

I just returned from Kenya with a team of physicians serving at Tenwek Hospital. Dr.Ken Rutledge led the team of 11 physicians and 4 logistical personnel for a 11 day tripserving the Kenyan people. The purpose of our trip was to not only serve and treat pa-

tients, but also train and equip the African residents serving at the hospital. Alsothrough the help of Geoff Baker, our team member and Covidien Hospital Supply Rep,we were able to bring over $100,000 of equipment and supplies for the hospital.

Needless to say, my role during the trip was a unique one, since I dont have a medicalbackground. God allowed me to work alongside the chaplains throughout the week, visiting on the wards, praying with patients, sharing my faith and even teaching at theirchaplain school. Although it was a blessing to serve in this way, at times it was verydifficult and challenging. One such challenging situation came in regards to a patientthat Dr. Ryan Cantwell, Dr. Steve Brantley, and I visited on Monday, within the ICU. Hisname was Wesley. Wesley had been found unconscious in his field after planting pota-toes. The suspicion was that he had perhaps been poisoned because of inhaling an agri-cultural pesticide.

It wasnt until Wednesday during my rounds with the chaplain, that I saw Wesley againin the ICU. But this time I had discovered that Wesley's health had deteriorated, to thepoint that he was brain damaged and on a ventilator. In fact, the moment we arrived, the doctor was notifying his family that he was dead and they were removing the venti-lator. Simon, the Tenwek chaplain, and I were able to come alongside the family. Weprayed with and for them, and held a bedside service for Wesley as his family grieved, mourned, and said their goodbyes. Watching the death of someone, and entering intothe grief of the family, was a very difficult and emotionally draining experience. Pleasepray for Wesley's family, especially his wife, as they continue to grieve his loss.

There were countless stories like Wesley that made our visit to Tenwek a profound ex-

perience, not only for me, but for the entire team who went.

Thanks for your partnership and making this work possible. Your financial gifts everymonth make it possible for this Kingdom work to continue. Thank you!
