OCEAN VIEW COLLEGE SENIOR CENTREOverview

• Ocean View disbanded care groups for years 11 and 12, a total of 12 care groups, to fund their Senior Centre. This provided the funding required to have three Senior study managers who have oversight of the centre. It is a cost neutral environment when care groups are disbanded.

• There was an internal application process for the positions which have two lines allocated to run and support senior students in the centre.

• The Senior Study Managers were selected for their ability to develop supportive relationships with students and their organisation skills. These skills support consistent processes with structure and routines.


• In practice the Senior Study Managers have no lines off and their offices are open to everyone.

• The Senior Study Managers operate in an environment that allows them to move around the students and offer support where required.

• The Senior Centre is driven by the Senior Study Managers who have the power to make changes in line with the site plan.


• Students are expected to have signed in by 9 am to start their day.

• Students are discouraged from having off site study/home study and ‘frees’, but expected to attend all day.

• Attendance is the responsibility of the Senior Study Managers.


• The Senior Study Managers operate in an environment that allows them to move around the students and offer support where required.

The entrance of the Senior Centre includes a front desk with SSO support and student check in facilities. All students are expected to check in before 9 am as part of their ‘care group’ routine.


• The three senior study manager’s work space allows transparency and access to the whole area. The Senior School AP has a separate office and a space that allows for private meetings is available.


Library shelves have been used to divide the areas in the large open space. Most of library resources are housed elsewhere.


Work spaces in the Senior Centre include one classroom that can be closed off and computer stations. Note that there is a reasonably spacious gap between each work space.


A covered outdoor area with lockers, seats, a kettle, microwave and barbecue is available for the students. This is accessed only through the Senior Centre.


A projected image on a central whiteboard has dues dates for all Stage 1 & 2 classes. This is continuously updated by the Senior study managers. ATAR information and SACE exam timetable are available.
