LEMON SHARKSA stocky and powerful shark and can grow to over 3m in length. They are often found in shallow subtropical

waters and are known to inhabit and return to specific nursery sites for breeding.

Often feeding at night, these sharks use

electroreceptors to find their main source

of prey, fish. Lemon sharks

use the many benefits of group living such as

enhanced communication, courtship, predatory behaviour and protection.

Lemon sharks get their name because of the yellowy tinge to their dorsal fins and underbelly giving them the perfect camouflage when swimming over the shallow sandy bottom of Shark Bay. Lemon sharks are the most studied shark of all time as they survive well in captivity. The Lemon shark in a non-aggressive species and there has never been a recorded fatality due to a lemon shark attack.

SANDBAR SHARKS One of the biggest coastal sharks in the world and is closely related to the Dusky Shark and the Bull Shark.

Its dorsal fin is triangular and very high. Sandbar sharks usually have heavy-set bodies and rounded snouts that are shorter than the average shark’s snout. Their upper teeth have broadly uneven cusps with sharp edges. Its second dorsal fin and anal fin are close to the same height. Females can grow to 2/2.5 m, males up to 1.8 m.

Its body colour can vary from a bluish to a brownish grey to a bronze, with a white or pale underside.

Sandbar sharks swim alone or gather in sex-segregated schools that vary in size.

TIGER SHARKSTiger sharks are common in the Shark Bay as well as all tropical and sub-tropical waters throughout the world. Large specimens can grow to as much as 6 to 7.5 metres in length and weigh more than 900 kilograms.

They are scavengers, with excellent senses of sight and smell and a nearly limitless menu of diet items. They have sharp, highly serrated teeth and powerful jaws that allow them to crack the shells of sea turtles. The stomach contents of captured tiger sharks have included stingrays, sea snakes, seals, birds, squids, and even license plates and old tyres.

They are heavily harvested for their fins, skin, and flesh, and their livers contain high levels of vitamin A, which is processed into vitamin oil. They have extremely low repopulation rates, and therefore may be highly susceptible to fishing pressure. They are listed as near threatened throughout their range.

Please Note: Tiger sharks are not always present in the aquarium. Due to their migratory nature, we are unable to keep them year-round. Please enquire when booking if seeing them is a priority.
