O BASIC TELEPHONY ISDN,O DIGITAL CELLULAR RADIO TELEPHONY AND O ALL THE INTELLIGENT NETWORK APPLICATIONS

THE ALCATEL E-10 SYSTEM IS LOCATED AT THE HEART OF THE TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORKS CONCERNED. IT IS MADE UP OF THREE INDEPENDENT FUNCTIONAL UNITS:

THE "SUBSCRIBER ACCESS SUBSYSTEM" WHICH CARRIES OUT CONNECTIONS OF ANALOG AND DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LINES,

" CONNECTION AND CONTROL" WHICH CARRIES OUT CONNECTIONS AND PROCESSING OF CALLS,

"OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE" WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FUNCTIONAL IS NEEDED BY THE NETWORK OPERATING AUTHORITY.

THE URM PROVIDES THE INTERFACE BETWEEN EXTERNAL PCMS AND THE OCB-283. THESE PCM COME FROM EITHER:

O A REMOTE SUBSCRIBER DIGITAL ACCESS UNIT(CSN) OR FROM A REMOTE ELECTRONIC SATELLITE CONCENTRATOR CSE,

O ANOTHER SWITCHING CENTRE, ON CHANNEL -ASSOCIATED SIGNALING OR CCITT NO.7,

O THE DIGITAL RECORDED ANNOUNCEMENT EQUIPMENT.

4. AUXILLARY EQUIPMENT MANAGER (ETA):

O THE ETA SUPPORTS: O THE TONE GENERATORS(GT), O THE FREQUENCY RECEIVING AND GENERATION(RGF) DEVICES, O THE CONFERENCE CIRCUITS(CCF), O THE EXCHANGE CLOCK.

5. CCS7 PROTOCOL HANDLER(PUPE) AND CCS7 CONTROLLER (PC):

8. CALL CHARGING AND TRAFFIC MEASUREMENT (TX):

THE TX FUNCTION CARRIES OUT CHARGING FOR COMMUNICATION. IT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CALCULATING THE AMOUNT TO BE CHARGED FOR EACH COMMUNICATION.

9. MATRIX SYSTEM HANDLER(GX):

IT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROCESSING AND FOR DEFENCE OF CONNECTIONS ON RECEIPT OF:

O REQUEST FOR CONNECTION OR DISCONNECTION COMING FROM CALL HANDLER OR MESSAGE DISTRIBUTOR FUNCTION

O CONNECTIONS FAULT SIGNALLED BY THE MATRIX SWITCH CONTROLLER FUNCTION(COM).

10. MESSAGE DISTRIBUTOR (MQ):

THE MQ FUNCTION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTION AND FORMATTING OF CERTAIN INTERNAL MESSAGES.

11. COMMUNICATION MULTIPLEX:

1 TO 5 COMMUNICATION MULTIPLEXES ARE USED TO TRANSMIT MESSAGES FROM ONE STATION TO ANOTHER. THIS TRANSFER OF MESSAGES IS CARRIED OUT BY ONLY ONE TYPE OF MEDIUM, THE TOKEN RING, WITH A UNIQUE PROTOCOL WHICH IS PROCESSED IN ACCORDANCE WITH IEEE 802.5 STANDARD.

THE FUNCTIONS OF THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE SUBSYSTEM ARE CARRIED OUT BY THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE SOFTWARE(OM).

THE OPERATING AUTHORITY ACCESSES ALL HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE EQUIPMENT OF THE ALCATEL 1000E-10 SYSTEM VIA COMPUTER TERMINALS BELONGING TO THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE SUBSYSTEM: MAGNETIC MEDIA, INTELLIGENT TERMINAL.

TRANSLATION MANAGEMENT :

TRANSLATION FUNCTION IS THE PROCESS THAT TRANSFORMS RECEIVED DATA INTO A SET OF REQUIRED DATA IN ORDER TO PROCESS THE CALLS ACCORDING TO THE REQUESTOF THE SUBSCRIBER, AFTER DULY VERIFYING THE AUTHORISATION OF THE SUBSCRIBERS. DATA INPUT TO THE TRANSLATOR MAY BE DIGITS SUPPLIED BY THE SUBSCRIBER OR RECEIVED OVER CIRCUITS OR DATA OBTAINED FROM A PREVIOUS STAGE OF TRANSLATION.

SUBSCRIBER LINES AND CIRCUITS ARE THE SOURCES, FROM WHICH CALLS CAN BE ORIGINATED IN AN EXCHANGE. THE TRANSLATOR MAINTAINS THE INFORMATION IN FORM OF DATABASE. IN CASE OF A CALL ORIGINATING ON A SUBSCRIBER LINE OR JUNCTION A REGISTER OF MR IS SEIZED WHICH RECEIVE THE SPACE ADDRESS OF THE SUBSCRIBER OR CIRCUIT. REGISTER CALLS THE TR TO COLLECT THE CATEGORY INFORMATION ANDCALLER CODES I.E. WHETHER THE CALL IS FROM A SUBSCRIBER LINE OR OVER A JUNCTION ETC WITH REFERENCE TO SPACE ADDRESS. CALLER CODE AND CATEGORY INFORMATION IS REQUIRED DURING SUBSEQUENT STAGES OF TRANSLATION MANAGEMENT.

A TRUNK CONTROL STATION HANDLES 32 PCM LINKS.

SMM :

THE SMM IS THE O&M FUNCTION UNIT AND IS DUPLICATED AS SMMA & SMMB. THIS WORK IN PILOT/STAND BY MODE.

SUBSCRIBER DIGITAL ACCESS UNIT (CSN):

THE DIGITAL SATELLITE CENTRE IS A SUBSCRIBER CONNECTION UNIT ON WHICH BOTH ANALOG AND DIGITAL SUBSCRIBERS CAN BE CONNECTED.THE CSN CAN BE EITHER LOCAL(CSNL) OR DISTANT(CSND) WITH RESPECT TO THE CONNECTING SWITCH.

THE CSN BREAKS DOWN INTO TWO PARTS:

- THE DIGITAL CONTROL UNIT (UCN) AND THE CONCENTRATORS (CN).
