Ontario Craft Brewery (OCB) Tasting Notes

Who is the OCB?

We're the Ontario Craft Brewers, 25 brewers dedicated to making great tasting beer, right here in

Ontario. The reason we got together is to promote our fresh, natural, quality beer and agree on a commitment to excellence that everyone has to live up to.

We chose "Ontario Craft Brewers" as our name, because it speaks to the tradition of care and craftsmanship that we insist upon when brewing our beer. It's taste that we're obsessed with, and taste that distinguishes us from other beers, so naturally our slogan is "Taste. The difference."

Why not ask for one of our beers next time you're in a pub or restaurant? Or pick up a few bottles

at the LCBO or The Beer Store and taste the difference for yourself? We think you'll like it. Also, feel free to visit our website: www.ontariocraftbrewers.com.

Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company

We are a small, family-run brewery in the Lower Ottawa Valley. We brew interesting and tasty beer using the highest quality ingredients like certified organic malts and local spring water. We have names, not titles. We brew using equal parts art & science. And we always have time for our friends. www.beaus.ca

Beau’s Lug Tread Lagered Ale

Brewed with certified organic malts, hops and local spring water, Lug Tread is top fermented like an ale and then cold aged like a lager. This provides some light ale notes complemented with a lager-

like crispness. Lug Tread displays interwoven malt and hop flavours, subtle fruit flavours and a crisp, lingering finish. Lug Tread is certified organic by Pro-Cert.

Festivale AltbierBased on a rare German style of ale, known as Alt (German for old, referring to how long this style

has been in existence). It originates from the northern half of the Rhineland and is something of a cousin beer to our Lug Tread. Festivale is an amber ale, with fairly assertive hoppiness. Munich

malts give festivale its colour and its rich caramel sweetness. Like all our beer, Festivale is brewed with local springwater, certified organic malts and certified organic hops. Oh yeah!

Black Oak Brewing Company

Established in 1999, Black Oak makes great tasting, slow brewed, all malt, authentic hand crafted beer that's true to style. Both our delicious Pale Ale and Nut Brown Ale are gold medal winners in the national Great Canadian Brewing Awards. All our beers focus on Quality, Character and

Consistency. Black Oak Brewery is located in Etobicoke, Ontario. www.blackoakbeer.com

Black Oak Nut Brown AleMahogany in colour with a dense white head, the rich smooth flavour is pleasantly dry with a roasty

nuttiness and occasional hints of dark chocolate. Just enough hops in the background to balance the sweet maltiness and enhance the medium body, making it highly quaffable.

Black Oak Pale AleThis thirst quenching golden amber coloured pale ale is refreshing and enjoyable while awakening

your taste buds with a nice hoppy burst. The pleasant bitterness is well balanced with an exquisite malty backbone. The enticing hoppy aroma lends to slight notes of citrus. This medium bodied ale is mildly carbonated, with a fluffy white head that leaves behind intricate brewers lacing on the glass.

Muskoka Cottage Brewery

Established in 1996, Muskoka Cottage Brewery is located in the heart of Cottage Country - Bracebridge, Ontario. We are located right downtown in a century old Granary building. All of our fine award winning beers are all natural and we use no preservatives. www.muskokabrewery.com

Muskoka Cream AleOur signature beer, Muskoka Cream Ale is crisp and refreshingly hopped with a wonderful malt

balance.

Muskoka Light PilsnerWhen beer drinkers asked us about a pilsner that was light, we had the perfect beer in mind! Our

Pilsner is a crisp, clean, refreshing and flavourful Euro-style beer, which is lighter in alcohol; a breakthrough in craft brewing!

Muskoka Summer Weissbier Seasonally brewed, Muskoka Summer Weiss is crafted with visions of summer in mind. Unfiltered

and naturally hazy by design, the balance of wheat, barley and subtle hopping make this an intriguingly aromatic, flavourful and sessionable summer wheat beer. Cheers to you Summer!

Muskoka Mad Tom IPAInspired by late night stories around the fire, Muskoka Mad Tom will instantly grab your attention. Dry-hopped with Chinook and Centennial hops, this IPA has a vibrant aroma, depth of flavour, and

crisp citrusy undertow like no other. So brace yourself, and crack one open for old Mad Tom. This is an awakening in craft beer that gets more enticing with every sip.

Flying Monkey Craft Brewery

The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery is locally run by a few beer-lovin’ friends and a family of unwavering Beer Disciples. Our philosophy? Keep the microbrewery revolution going –there’s always room for more fresh, local, and better beer in the “brewscape” of Ontario. Every last one of us craves interesting real beer, so we brew our unique ales to taste, not necessarily to style. We struggle always to express our off-centered ideas and really craft the kind of stuff we want to drink ourselves. So bottoms up –and Release the Flying Monkeys! Flying Monkey Craft Brewery is located in Barrie, Ontario. www.flyingmonkeybeer.com

Confederation Amber Ale

Confederation Amber Ale is a balanced ale with quiet dignity, but it’s made unique by our brewhouse mandate: dry-hop everything. With hop bombast, the perfect amber patina, and a

toasty malt sweetness, this is a beautiful beer for all seasons. A little dark roast tweaks all that sweet crystal malt, and Styrian Goldings hops add some citrusy evergreen notes. It’s as close to

classy as some of will ever get.

Hoptical Illusion Almost Pale Ale

This is the beer that reminded us why we started a microbrewery. First off, we love hops. Secondly, brewing should be to taste, not necessarily to style. And, thirdly, did we mention that we love

hops? So that explains it: Hoptical Illusion is an Almost pale ale. At 27 IBUs versus 25 and way up for English Pale Ales, we’re hoppier than most beers, but not quite a true pale ale. An American pale?

Almost . . . but it’s Canadian. Some of the strange personality of this beer comes from the grapefruit-y Amarillo hop that supports a quirky malty blended of amber kiln and specialty roast.

Dry-hop that potion in the fermenters with some Cascade, and the aroma is positively dizzying. Sometimes copper, in other lights more red, often described as brown. Sometimes you think you’re

ready for a pale ale, but then it takes a quick u-turn at the end when those beautiful grape-fruity hops surface. And then “poof!” –you lose your grip on it again. Prest-o, change-o, Hoptical Illusion is

aptly named.

Antigravity Light AleYeah, yeah - we know: Light and Craft Brewed in the same sentence? Well, Antigravity Light Ale

(4.0% ABV) is our answer to the call for a natural, craft-brewed Light Ale that actually still has

flavour. Using real, natural, certified organic ingredients for the freshest, most naked flavour, we've purposefully brewed Antigravity as a light ale which accounts for its body and complexity not

usually found in beers at the lighter end of the spectrum. That and the fact we dry-hop the heck out of it. Antigravity is lighter, but still flavourful; effervescent and playful, but not too hoppy or

aggressive. It is what it is, and, for what it is, it's damn good!

Netherworld Cascadian Dark AleNetherworld Cascadian Dark Ale (6.0%) hails from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where

hybrid is the norm and everything is done after hours, outside the lines, and off the books. Brewing to taste, not style, we summoned Netherworld from a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty

thing with lots of west coast hops. Eerily, from some brewing astral plane, this “Cascadian Dark Ale”

appeared in our tanks. Mostly black with ruby hints of colour, Netherworld pours with a cafe au lait froth releasing a strange aura of green leafy hops in the miasma of dark aromas wafting from its

foam. Roasted coffee and cocoa flavours front this darkly coloured but medium bodied brew, but then come the fresh, green, Cascade hop flavours of juniper, herbs, and light citrus undertones.

With some soft fruit towards the finish and a slight hint of applewood, Netherworld will definitely

have you embracing the darkness.

Great Lakes Brewery

Founded in 1987, Great Lakes Brewery is Toronto's oldest craft brewery. We produce the finest ales

and lagers made with all natural, premium ingredients. Our award winning beers are handcrafted in small batches using an historic open-fire copper kettle. www.greatlakesbeer.com

Devils Pale Ale 666Brewed with 6 select malts and 4 premium hops. Devil's Pale Ale has a rich mahogany colour,

reminiscent of early English pale ales. The wonderful hoppy aroma is revealed even before your

first sip, followed by a hearty malty body, and culminating with a pronounced bitterness. Prepare yourself for a devilishly good time…

Orange Peel Ale

Handcrafted with five specialty malts and five varieties of hops, along with a touch of honey, we added heaps of fresh oranges and peels into the boil to produce a refreshingly flavourful and fruity taste experience. The subtle orange aroma and taste is balanced by a slightly bitter aftertaste from the orange peels and hops. Pouring a beautiful bronze-orange colour, Orange Peel Ale is available

only in the spring and summer.

Red Leaf Smooth Red LagerHints of caramel, nuts and toasted malt result in a fully flavoured yet deceptively smooth lager. A well balanced body makes it a perfect year-round beer. Red Leaf is an ideal match with burgers,

stews, sandwiches and similar selections. Gold Medal winner at the 2007 Canadian Brewing Awards.

Golden Horseshoe Premium LagerOur extended aging process results in an incredibly smooth and refreshing taste with little

bitterness or aftertaste. Great for the warm weather or for those desiring a light bodied beer, this premium blonde lager is 5% alcohol by volume. Thirst-quenching and flavourful, it's a perfect

companion to lighter fare, such as fish or salads, or spicy dishes like wings or sausages.

Crazy Canuck Pale AleWe've gone coastal!! Our version of a west coast pale ale, this copper coloured beer boasts an

unmistakable hoppy aroma and lingering bitterness, complemented by a soft bready malt flavour.

Green Tea AleHandcrafted with specialty malts and hops, we added carefully selected Organic Gunpowder Green Tea and fresh Ontario grown ginseng directly into the brew. Like green leaves sprouting, this beer boasts a refreshing and slightly herbal flavour that pairs well with lobster, pad thai, spring rolls or

sesame chicken.
