Goals of Workshop

• Get quantitative input (metrics) on how a given LSST schedule performs for specific science cases

• First step towards optimizing the ultimate LSST cadence

• Get ideas for further cadence strategy exploration, constrained by boundary conditions of hardware and key science cases

Schedule: Monday AM

• Metrics Analysis Framework tutorial session– For those who want to turn work on quantitative

input (metrics) to cadence into software that can be attached automatically to Operations Simulator runs

Schedule: Tuesday I.

• Cadence Workshop plenary: introduction; how LSST will be scheduled; cadence simulations; constraints, trade-offs, and metrics; breakout group organization

Schedule: Tuesday II.• Static science and Transients & Variables parallel

breakout sessions– Static science (Tony Tyson & Michael Strauss) topics will

include Large Scale Structure (Hu Zhan), Weak Lensing (Deborah Bard), Stellar Populations (Carl Grillmair), and Evolution of Galaxies (Michael Cooper)

– T&V (Steve Howell) topics will include Astrometry (John Gizis and Michael Liu), Fast T&Vs (Mansi Kasliwal and Lucianne Walkowicz), Slow T&Vs (Ashish Mahabal and John Thorstensen), Supernovae (Alex Kim and Michael Wood-Vasey), and Moving Objects (Lori Allen and Eric Christensen)
