Key Observations

• The MDM was being served in majority of the sample schools except in district Mahrajganj, where the MDM was being served in about half of the sample schools.

• It was also found that food grains were not available for additional one month in all of the sample schools visited by the MI.

• No Gender/Caste/Community based discrimination was observed by MI in cooking or serving MDM or in the sitting arrangement of the children in any of the sample school in all the sample districts.

• Weekly menu for MDM was being displayed in most of the sample schools in all the sample districts.

• Children were happy with quality and quantity of food in majority of the sample schools in all the sample districts.

• Micronutrients and de warming medicines was be given to the children in a very small proportion of the schools in all the sample districts.

• All the sample schools were having adequate number of cooks and helpers.

• Most of the sample schools in all of the sample districts had fully constructed kitchen shed-cum-store facility and potable water facility for cooking and drinking.

• Participation of Parents and VEC in monitoring and supervision of MDM was found to be satisfactory in all of the sample schools.

• Majority of Head Teachers and VECs of the sample schools feel that MDM was helpful in increasing the enrollment, attendance and general health of children in all the sample districts.
