N o t e s .

Mar. 9. The comet shews a sharp nucleus, equal to a star of 91jS magnitude: the head is very bright and is visible to the naked eye as a hazy star of the fourth magnitude.

10. Nucleus admits of very accurate observation. 19. Thick fog prevented further observation. 2 1 . Well-defined nucleus, equal to star 91/2 mag.

Mar. 23. Very bad definition : strong wind. 26. A short faint tail visible in the finder. 30. Fogged up completely before any right ascension

April I. Nucleus sharp and bright, equal to a star 9 mag-

z . Nucleus not well-defined: stars very unsteady.

could be secured.

nitude. Faint straight tail about 4 O long.

All the observations have been made by Mr. W. N. Finlay.
