DO NOW:1. Hand in STAPLED Graph labs AND HOMEWORK..

2. In your notes write down which fluid you think will SINK to the bottom and which fluid you think will Float on Top.

3. The DENSITY is written on each shape. Based on what you know about density, place the objects on top of each other in order of density and how they would appear in a water.

Float or Sink??

A material with a density greater than water?Sinks

A material with a density less than water?Floats

If an object has a mass of 25g and a

volume of 50mL, will it sink or float in liquid water?

D=25g/50ml  D=0.5g/mL  it will FLOAT

During which phase of matter (solid,

liquid, or gas) are most materials:

Most Dense =  Solids

Least Dense = Gases

When is water the MOST DENSE?  LIQUID at 4degrees Celsius

In what phase?   LIQUID

Why?   Water EXPANDS when it freezes. ICE has higher volume, so Density decreases!!

What happens to water when it freezes???

Sep 123:11 PM

ICE EXPANDS !!   LESS DENSE
