    Online and Offline Mode

    Online Mode:

The repository which is sitting in the BI Server is called as online repository. Theserve is up.All the components are connection (Presentation Server, BI Server). When there are any changes to repository, no need to restart the services.(Because already the BI server is reading)

    Offline Mode:

No connection to the BI Server and to the repository. The server is down in offlinedown. When there are any changes made in repository then we need to restart theservices because the BI server is not connected. We must restart the services.

    Differences

-To open the rpd in Online mode the server should be up and running. To open rpdin offline mode the server should be down.-In online mode we cant see the RPD name in the headline. In offline mode we cansee the RPD name on the top headline.-Check in changes icon highlighted in online mode, no need to save the rpd. Inoffline mode it will not displayed so we need to save the repository whenever therewere changes made.[Check in changes The changes will be reflected to all the relative services]-Cache is enabled in online mode; it is disabled in offline mode. Because cache willcome only when the server is up.-Small changes in RPD can do in online mode because the buffer size of Onlinemode is 256 KB only. Major changes in RPD should do in Offline mode.-In online we can open only one rpd, because server read only one rpd at a time. Inoffline mode we can open more than one rpd.-If we open rpd in offline mode we will have choices to open an rpd, but in onlinemode it directly open the rpd which is in server (available in nqsconfig file).
