This conference is designed for physicians, advanced
practice nurses, physician assistants, nurses and allied
health professionals involved in the screening, diagnosis
and treatment of women’s health issues. There is a need
to review and discuss current guidelines for screening
mammography; imaging modalities for breast cancer
screening; background and history of hormone treatment;
peripartum depression risk factors and mortality/morbidity;
and types of maternal-fetal conflicts.
Conference Objectives Upon completion of this conference, the participants should be able to:
• Review current guidelines for screening mammography.
• Review additional imaging modalities for breast cancer screening.
• Describe the surgical options for treating breast cancer.
• Discuss adjuvant options for treating breast cancer.
• Discuss the background and history of hormone treatment.
• Describe the benefits and risks of hormone treatment.
• Review peripartum depression, including risk factors and mortality/morbidity.
• Identify and evaluate peripartum depression.
• Describe basic treatment strategies for peripartum depression.
• Describe the basic concepts of ethical decision making in medicine.
• Review the types of maternal-fetal conflicts.
• Discuss ethical approaches to conflict resolution.
