Simple clean design may not be an art, but simple, clean design with harmony in all proportions is a delicate art which is only mastered by the most experienced and skilled designers.

A true designer watchThe two Danes, Lau Liengård Ruge and Christian Mikkelsen, are the creators behind every Obaku watch. Each watch has the name of its creator inscribed in the back case. Both designers have many years of experience creating minimalist watches for various brand names. Since 2007 they have been creating the Obaku watches and time after time they manage to come up with new and beautiful contemporary designs. They are continually striving for perfection and improving their designs within the framework of the minimalist design values.

Within the Danish design history, many famous works of art and design have evolved. Perhaps one of the most famous Danish designs is the opera house in Sydney. Even though this was created many years ago, the building still looks as if it could have been designed yesterday. This is the secret to the success of the simplicity found in the Danish design heritage. The designs will look as contemporary tomorrow as they do today.“For me the important thing is to produce a design that stands the test of time. I am no fan of quick-fire, flavour-of-the-month solutions. I want to really get to grips with a design, and focus my energy on bringing it to fruition,” says Obaku designer, Lau Liengård Ruge, at the same time admitting that he is an incorrigible perfectionist.

ZEN BY NATURE

The idea that there should be a sense of calm and balance in the items we use to adorn ourselves is what gave birth to the Obaku collection. In Asia, Zen philosophies have given rise to a natural simplicity – in both thought and act. Obaku takes its name from a branch of Zen philosophy and has created a universe characterized by a sense of calm, free from all superfluous details.

In the Danish design heritage there is a long tradition featuring functionality and simplicity. Obaku has inherited the best from both these cultures and has blended the simplicity of thought with the simplicity of design.

The Obaku logo is inspired by the Zen calligraphic circle of life, also known as the Enso, which in Japanese means ‘circle’. It symbolizes strength, elegance and the universe and is an ‘expression of the moment’. The calligraphic Enso refers to a moment when the mind is free to simply let the body and spirit create. In short it symbolizes everything an Obaku watch is.

T H E B E S T C R A F T S M A N S H I P

All cases, buckles and bracelets are made in the best solid stainless steel material. The steel is made in Japan and all cases are carefully hand polished by the best craftsmanship standards. Watches that are black, brown, gold or rose-gold are coated with a titanium coating, which is the most advanced technique for long-lasting coatings. The gold coating is a mixture of titanium and gold which is merged with the stainless steel base material in a fusion process in a vacuum chamber. Every Obaku watch with a strap is naturally genuine leather. Several versions are assembled in multiple layers which gives the straps a rich structure and identity. Japanese high-precision quartz movements make the watches tick and every watch is vacuum tested up to at least a 3 ATM pressure, depending on the model.

All cases, buckles and bracelets are made in either

titanium or the best solid stainless steel material for

watch manufacturing. The fine 316L steel is made in

Japan and all cases are carefully hand polished by the best

craftsmanship standards.

ecological movements

Most models are equipped with special environmentally

friendly movements. The movements use a SPRON

Battery which is a silver oxide battery free of mercury and

lead. By applying a high precision anode using a surface

process technology and new material for the cathode,

silver and lead are completely removed from the battery.

The movement can also use ordinary batteries.

coatings

All watches in gold or black are coated with a titanium

coating which is the newest and most advanced technique

for long lasting coatings. The gold coating is a mixture of

titanium and gold which is merged with the stainless steel

base material in a fusion process in a vacuum chamber.

water resistance

All watches are at least 3ATM water resistant and have

been individually tested. The watches are not suitable for

diving or swimming.

straps

All straps are made in genuine leather and several

versions are assembled in multiple layers which gives the

straps a rich structure and identity.

movements

All watches are assembled with original high quality

movements made in Japan with the highest precision.

glass

All glass is mineral glass that has undergone

special hardening procedures to ensure max-

imum crack resistance.
