The Association for Project Management is the largestprofessional body in Europe which is dedicated to project andprogramme management. Introductory Certificatein Project Management
OverviewAPM has worked with the Department for Education and Skills(DfES) to develop the APM Introductory Certificate in ProjectManagement. This qualification offers an insight into thechallenging and exciting discipline of project management,and recognises candidates' understanding of the keyprinciples involved.
Who will benefit?The APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management is foranyone who wishes to demonstrate a basic awareness of projectmanagement and how projects differ from normal workactivities. Prior knowledge or experience of project managementis not essential for this qualification, which covers 27 knowledgeareas from the APM Body of Knowledge (5th edition).
What is assessed?The APM Introductory Certificate in Project Managementassesses the key elements of the project management lifecycle.Candidates will be able to understand the language of projectmanagement and the structure of a successful project.Candidates will also be able to take an active part in a projectteam and make a positive contribution to any projectenvironment.
How is it assessed?Assessment will be through a 60 question, multiple choice examtaken over one hour.
The following key principles will be assessed:
Planning and scheduling; communications;project quality management; teamwork; resource management;project risk management; handover and closeout; project reviews.
APM membershipIndividuals who take this exam will be eligible for free registrationwhen applying for membership to APM. This offer is available forsix weeks after the exam (valid from the date on the results letter).

APMP (IPMA Level D)
OverviewAPMP (IPMA Level D) is a knowledge based qualification.Successful candidates are able to participate in projects fromindividual assignments through to large capital projects. APMP isa qualification recognised both nationally and internationally thatsuccessful candidates can carry from one job to another or fromone industry to another.
Who will benefit?APMP is aimed at project managers and aspiring projectmanagers who wish to demonstrate their knowledge of projectmanagement at a foundation level. The APMP covers 37knowledge areas from the APM Body of Knowledge (5th edition).Knowledge of these areas is considered fundamental to theprofessional management of projects.
What is assessed?APMP assesses candidates' breadth of knowledge in all areas ofproject management, from the strategic and commercial elementsof the project, to the technical, organisational, and peoplemanagement skills required to participate effectively within a projectteam. Attaining this qualification will enable candidates todemonstrate an understanding of how these elements interact.
How is it assessed?The APMP qualification is a three hour written essay-basedpaper. The examination is designed to test the candidates’knowledge of project management. The candidate has a choiceof ten questions from sixteen.

APM Practitioner Qualification(IPMA Level C)
OverviewThe APM Practitioner Qualification (IPMA Level C) is designedto give project management practitioners the opportunity todemonstrate their ability in managing non-complex projects orrun a key control function of a large-scale project.
Who will benefit?The APM Practitioner Qualification is for project managers,project coordinators and team leaders who typically have at leastthree years' experience in managing non-complex projects.Candidates wishing to take the Practitioner Qualification mustsatisfy one of the following criteria: have passed the APMPqualification; can demonstrate good understanding of the APMBody of Knowledge (5th edition); or can demonstrate a goodfoundation knowledge of project management, supported byevidence of relevant CPD.
How is it assessed?Assessment will run over two and a half days and will be held atan APM approved assessment centre, three elements are involved:
Individual work: Candidates will be expected to answerwritten questions based on a case study and a questionregarding current issues in project management
Group work: Candidates will carry out group exercises inorder to discuss and solve problems relating to the case study
Interviews: All candidates will be interviewed on anindividual basis by a qualified APM Practitioner Qualificationfacilitator.
What is assessed?This qualification assesses the candidate’s ability to manage anon-complex project across all aspects of the project life cycle.It is an assessment at a given moment in time, in a controlledenvironment assessed within a realistic scenario. Candidates willbe assessed against 30 criteria, giving them the opportunity todemonstrate their ability to analyse, identify and understandissues and information surrounding a non-complex project,implementing strong project management practice in the process.

APM Certificated Project Manager(IPMA Level B)
OverviewCertificated Project Manager (IPMA Level B) is the internationallyrecognised qualification for senior project managementprofessionals, project and programme directors, and programmemanagers. Certificated Project Managers have extensive projectmanagement experience and a demonstrable track record indelivering successful business initiatives through projects.
Who will benefit?This is a prestigious qualification for skilled and experiencedprofessionals who are adept in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects (both within their organisation and withexternal suppliers and stakeholders). This qualification will addvalue to any technical or business qualification by demonstratingan ability to manage and deliver complex projects.
How is it assessed?The assessment comprises three stages:
Submission of your CV detailing your experience in managingcomplex projects, a self-assessment form and a précis of a projectyou have managed (which was completed within the last fiveyears) that demonstrates your project management capabilities
Submission of a 5000 word project report based on the précissubmitted in stage one
A professional interview with a panel of assessors.
What is assessed?The assessors will assess project management competenciesthrough your experience, self-assessment form and projectreport and also through an interview. The key areas beingassessed are your:
Personal qualities: professional attitude; leadership skills;independent judgement; communication skills; vision;flexibility and self awareness;
Project management understanding and practice:The principles of project management; appropriate use of tools;techniques and methodologies; commercial acumen;problem solving; stakeholder involvement.
