  • FOR STARTERS: Is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season…is on his first Opening Day roster and is beginning his second season in the majors…made both his Triple-A and Major League debut last year, his third professional season.

    THIS AND THAT: Did not allow a hit in 5.0 innings in his last start and op-ponents are 8-for-58 (.138) off him for the season…the batting average is third lowest in the American League…however, has walked nine and hit a Major League leading four batters…opponents are 1-for-36 (.028) with the bases empty compared to 7-for-22 (.318) with runners on…has a .261 (6-for-23) opponents batting average the first time through the lineup, .057 (2-for-35) after that.

    FIRST START: He had a no decision in the A’s 7-6 loss to Los Angeles (AL) April 4 in Oakland…the A’s scored a run in the first but he allowed three runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Maldonado and a RBI single from Escobar…an RBI triple by Trout in the fifth inning increased the Angels lead to 4-2 and he was relieved by Hendriks to start the seventh…the A’s scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to get him off the hook.

    SECOND START: He was the losing pitcher in the A’s 8-1 loss at Texas April 9…struck out a career-high 10 batters in just 5.1 innings…became just the sixth pitcher in Oakland history to strike out 10 or more in fewer than six innings, the first since Rich Harden on Sept. 5, 2011 against Kan-sas City (10 so in 5.0 ip)…allowed a three-run home run to Gallo in the sec-ond inning…loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and was relieved by Montas, who allowed all three runs to score.
