Dear Students, Parents/Guardians Congratulations on seeking membership in the California Junior Scholarship Federation. CJSF is a state

wide Honors SocietJ q;11t studeo tsiin Junior High and High School can join if they earn certain grades. Read the direction carefully and'· ee if you qualify by filling in the applicati n on the back page.

Membership is by application only, and is not automatic or compulsory. Applications are taken at the beginning of each semester. To be formally admitted to the Honor Society, your child needs to complete the following tasks:

• Fill out the application - Follow the directions carefully!!!!! • Attach a copy of your unofficial transcripts to the top of the application (print

one out from Infinite Campus). Highlight your December 2016 grades. • Complete 10 hours of community service. • Return the form to Mrs. McHorney in Room 604 or to Mrs. Goldberg in Room

206 by Thursday, Mach 30, 2017. • If you want to light a candle or run for president, vice president, treasurer or

secretary, your form must be turned in by Friday, March 17 and you need to attend a meeting at lunch in Room 206 on Friday, March 17.

• CJSF is a funded completely through donations. Your donations help pay for dues, medals, certificates, and supplies for the members. PLEASE make a donation ($5 or more) to CJSF this semester so we can continue to offer this program. Checks can be made payable to Racho Pico ASB, and taken to the counseling office. Please note that the check is for CJSF. We thank you in advance.

Late applications will NOT be accepted for any reason. We suggest you end it with your child to school ASAP, don't wait until the final day.

Rancho Pico asks all CJSF members to complete community service hours for membership. We will accept any community service hours performed since November 1, 2016. See the community service application for ideas regarding community service.

Once we have received these items, you and your child will be formally invited to the Induction Ceremony. The induction ceremony will take place on Tuesday May 16, 2017. The ceremony will take place in the Rancho Pico Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

*You need a total of ten hours of community service to qualify for Honor Society. You may volunteer at a school, library, animal shelter, park, hospital, nursing home, church or baby-sit for free (babysitting for your own brothers and sisters is not contributing to the community). The key concept behind the community service requirement is that you are volunteering your time for the purpose of being helpful to someone in need, rather than receiving money. A good resource is the City of Santa Clarita's web site at www.santa-clarita.com **Please don't assume that your teachers can provide you with community service. Many teachers are willing to allow you to help out, but please ask. Also, check with the elementary school teachers as many of them appreciate former students coming back to help out. ***There is a sign-up sheet in room 206 for refreshment help on the night of the ceremony. Students will sign up for either paper goods, bottled water, or cookies. They are required to arrive early to set-up, and stay after to clean up. I will give them 3 hours of community service. First come, first serve.
