Second Collection: HOLY LAND

Pope Francis has asked that the 2020 Good Friday

Holy Land Collection be taken up this weekend.

The Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land is

among the oldest and largest Catholic institutions

in the Holy Land. Its principal responsibility has

been, and remains, the protection and

maintenance of the holy shrines, basilicas, and

churches, and providing for the needs of its

monasteries. It takes to heart the welcoming and

care of pilgrims who travel to the Holy Lands to

walk where Christ once walked.

“Never be afraid of loving the

Blessed Virgin too much.

You can never love her

more than Jesus did.”

- St. Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941)

Thought for

the Week

Do you know someone who might be

interested in becoming Catholic?

Or would you or someone you know like a

refresher in the basics of the Catholic faith?

If your answer is yes to any of these, consider

joining the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of

Adults) here at the parish this coming fall.

The RCIA is a series of classes for adults who

were never baptized, or who were baptized in

another Christian tradition, and interested in

learning more about the Catholic faith.

A NEW RCIA CLASS IS NOW FORMING,

TO BEGIN OCTOBER 1,

WITH OPTIONS FOR IN-PERSON

AND VIRTUAL CLASSES.

A person does not have to be certain they want

convert to Catholicism when the classes begin.

All they need is an open mind and heart.

If you or someone you know might be interested,

encourage them to call or email Father Rob,

301-475-9885, [email protected].

That Man Is You! (TMIY) resumes Sat, Sep 12 with

“The Vision of Man Fully Alive”

“The Vision of Man Fully Alive” will enable men to experience

authentic freedom as sons of God, whether as husbands, fathers, or

members of the Church and community. Through living the three-

fold mission of abiding presence, joyful service, and loving sacrifice, their hearts and homes will

experience the joy that God desires. That Man Is You! is a 26-week, structured program that meets on

Saturday mornings for 90 minutes and consists of fellowship over a light breakfast, a video, and a small

group discussion. TMIY is offered both in person (at the Parish Hall) and on Zoom, from 6-7:30am.

The videos will have a fresh, new multi-speaker format, featuring eight new speakers and new topics.

Week 1 begins Sat, Sep 12, from 6-7:30am — Join us in the SFX Parish Hall or on Zoom

To register: Matt Cosgrove, [email protected], Mark Coontz, [email protected].

2020 JUBILARIAN MASS CANCELLED

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the archdiocese is

cancelling the annual Jubilarian Mass on Nov 22.

Couples who are celebrating milestone-wedding

anniversaries (25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50+ years) and

who wish to receive an anniversary certificate

should call or email the Rectory by Sep 30.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN

Our parish has joined with St. Aloysius parish to

offer a flexible, family-centered model of faith

formation, called Family of Faith. Family of Faith

replaces the traditional Sunday School program,

empowering and equipping parents as the primary

catechists of their own children. An emphasis is

placed on disciplines for discipleship (such as daily

prayer, weekly Mass, and monthly Confession) as a

family.

To register your child for Religious Education for

the 2020-21 year, visit www.saintaloysiuschurch.org/

family-of-faith-registration-2020-2021.

OUR FIRST GATHERING WILL BE ON

SUN, SEP 20 AT 9:15AM VIA ZOOM.

REGISTER TO RECEIVE LOGIN DETAILS.

WE PRAY THE ROSARY

† At 7:30am before

our weekday Masses

(Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri)

† 30 Minutes Before

all Masses

the first & fifth Sunday

of each month

As we celebrate this

Labor Day:

A Prayer for the

Dignity of Work

and the Rights of

Workers

Lord God,

Master of the Vineyard,

How wonderful that you have invited us who labor by the sweat

of our brow to be workers in the vineyard and assist your work

to shape the world around us.

As we seek to respond to this call, make us attentive to those

who seek work but cannot find it.

Help us listen to the struggles of those who work hard to

provide for their families but still have trouble making ends meet.

Open our eyes to the struggles of those exploited and help us

speak for just wages and safe conditions, the freedom to

organize, and time for renewal.

For work was made for humankind and not humankind for work.

Let it not be a vehicle for exploitation but a radiant expression

of our human dignity.

Give all who labor listening hearts that we may pause from

our work to receive your gift of rest.

Fill us with your Holy Spirit that you might work through us to

let your justice reign.

Amen.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

For the greater glory of God...

Dear Parish Family,

On this Tuesday, September 8, we celebrate the

birthday of Our Lady. It’s a special feast because

it is only one of three birthdays celebrated on the

Church calendar. Typically, we remember the

day that a saint died (as their birthday into

eternal life) but rarely do we celebrate the day

they were born.

There are only three persons who have a

birthday celebration on the Church calendar:

Our Lord (December 25), St. John the Baptist

(June 24), and Our Lady (September 8).

All three were born without original sin;

Our Lord and Our Lady were conceived without

original sin. St. John the Baptist was cleansed of

original sin while in the womb at the Visitation

of Our Lady (pregnant with Jesus) to her cousin

Elizabeth (pregnant with St. John the Baptist).

This is a great opportunity to help foster

devotion to the Mother of God at home with

your children. For example, you might consider

having a birthday party for Mary with a cake and

special decorations. You could also set up a

family altar with flowers and a statue or picture

of Our Lady and pray the rosary together as a

family. You might want to sing a favorite

Marian hymn together, like “Immaculate Mary”

or recite the Litany of Loreto (these are easily

found by doing a Google search) or come up with

your own idea.

These simple customs

can be a cherished part

of your family’s

religious traditions.

Faithfully, in Christ,

Fr. Rob
