My Brothers,The month of April has come to a close. Our Past Masters night was a great success. This was due to the efforts of Past Master Al Dahlberg, Br. Don White and Br. Dave Wentzel. I believe the meal and gifts were all well received. My hope was that it was a great excuse to reconnect with old friends and family. I have planned another family and friends event in June.
Our Charity for the coming quarter will be the Tampa Shrine Hospital and the Sahib Shrine Transportation Fund. We presented our hospital check to High Priestess Lady Mary Fletcher of Sar-I Court#79, of the Ladies Oriental Shrine. The Sahib Transportation Fund checks will be delivered by the Past Masters unit over the next two months.
There was also a good turnout for the Child ID Program held at the Van Wezel. Thanks to Brother Omer for pulling that together.
The Grand Communication is almost upon us. My plan is to discuss the legislation over the next three stated meetings. We have already received a briefing from Grand Lodge. Our concern is your opinions. You will decide on how the lodge officers will vote. Please try to attend lodge so we can hear your concerns.
As always, if I can assist you in anyway please call upon me.
Your Brother always!
Paul Ritchie

My brothers…In an effort to modernize the way we conduct busi-ness in the Lodge and to allow for the addition of more activities that will bring us closer together in Brotherhood, the officers of the Lodge are mov-ing forward with plans to bring internet, cable TV and a land line phone into our building. There are several packages available to us and we are looking for a comprehensive plan that is both affordable and conducive to our needs.
We want to have more functions at the Lodge to bring our families and friends - such as movie nights, sports events and anything else that will give us an excuse to be together. Internet access will allow us to work at the Lodge instead of our homes and the phone service will put us on the 911 map with the City of Sarasota. We are hoping to bring this for a vote in the near future. As always, I hope that you are fully enjoying this wonderful spring weather and for those who will be traveling North to your permanent residences, good luck, be safe and we hope to see you next season.
Your grateful Senior Warden,
Br. Juan Sanchez
Grand Lodge will soon meet and one item on the agenda is whether to set regulations for the wearing of the “Lewis Jewel”. The Lewis Jewel has been adopted in England and by other Grand Lodges in America. It is at least two bars bearing the name of a father and son if both are masons in good standing. Each bar is usually engraved with name, lodge, date of raising, etc. It is a unique piece of jewelry to commemorate a fam-ily of masons. There are many articles about the Lewis
Jewel on the internet. We will report back after Grand Lodge!Fraternally,
Br. Mark Brewer, Junior Warden.

April 14 -Past Masters Night. Thanks to all the Past Masters, their families, and all for attending. For those who couldn’t make it, tables in the fellowship hall were decorated with forget-me-nots. Later in the evening WM:. Paul Ritchie gave the explanation of their signifigance. After a wonderful meal and dessert, the Past Masters in attendence were asked to stand and be recognized. WM:. Paul lined up the Builder’s Lodge on one side and Carey B. Fish on the other, then had Phoenix in the middle.
Another high point was the recently elected Ladies of the Shrine High Priestess spoke about what her organization does.
At the end of the evening, a ticket was drawn for a door prize. Past Master James Benjamin won a large frozen ham. A great evening overall.

vA fire started in the grasslands close to a farm. The county fire department rushed to the scene, but the fire was more than they could handle. Someone suggested calling the volunteer fire department. Despite some doubt that they would be of any assistance, they were called.
Your Help Is Greatly NeededAs many of you know, budgeting your money is very difficult in these times. The same holds true for your Lodge. One of the greatest expenses each year is the printing and mailing costs associated with the Trestleboard. In the coming months you will receive a request to either continue receiving the printed version or have your Trestleboard delivered as an electronic file through your email. Thanks to the many brothers who have already elected this option. Currently you can access the electronic version on the Lodge’s Facebook page, Twitter, and our Lodge’s Internet home page. Don’t worry we will still mail out printed copies to those who would prefer it and printed copies will be always be available at the Lodge.
Help your Lodge by submiting your email addrees to Lodge Secretary, Derl, at [email protected].
The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They rumbled straight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames and stopped! The firefighters jumped from the truck and frantically started spraying water in all direc-tions. Soon they had snuffed out the fire. As the farmer watched this, he was so grateful that his house and farm had been saved. He quickly got his checkbook and donated $1000 to the volunteer fire department. A local news reporter asked the volunteer fire captain how they planned to use the funds. The captain replied, “The first thing we’re gonna do is get the brakes on our fire truck fixed!”

Freemasonry is a voluntary, fraternal organization, composed of men of good will, good character and good reputation, whom in most jurisdictions around the world, believe in an Almighty Creator and practice the spirit of universal brotherhood to man.
They are loyal to their country and devote their time to the principles of friendship and fellowship. Their focus is to be of service to all mankind.
For many men, Freemasonry fulfills a part of them-selves that they intrinsically felt was missing. Whether it be the social, the philosophical, the spiritual, the historical or simply a sense of community with others; you will find within Freemasonry that part of you which you seek.
What will I gain if I become a Free Mason? The Masonic Fraternity furnishes opportunity and inducement for men to gather for group enjoyment and personal development.
• You will never again be truly alone, because you are a part of a brotherhood of men who want to see you prosper in all ways possible and if it is within their ability, they will help you to do so.
• You will learn to focus your energies upon an upright and truthful life, and remove the more negative excesses which all of mankind must continually resist.
• If you become a Free Mason, you will become a better man, if you truly wish to study and learn.

I put this information in for a reason - Phoenix Lodge has over 300 members on the books, but only a scarce few ever come to a Lodge meeting or function. Sadly, I heard one man brag during a meeting that he only attends once a year.
On several occassions I’ve seen a recently raised brother. I’ve said hello several times, but he neither acknowledges me nor recognizes me, even though I was the Degree Master for his second degree. He doesn’t know me because after he was raised - he stopped going to Lodge - sound familiar?
Be honest, why did you become a Mason? Just for the title?-Editor
